Not a chance. He's been healthy and decent the last 3 years and they need innings and won't eat $10M for a month of bad starts. You want the 4, 5 spots to be Banuelos, Covey/Fulmer while Giolito is still on the injured list and Rodon having had surgery last year ? Cease ? Can't leave the starting pitching so thin. He will pitch every 5th day and he hopefully has some positive regression. You just can't DFA everybody who starts the season poorly.

I had to look for a Pantera song to commemorate the promotion and the title of this song seems appropriate.

Predict the White Sox Record After 30 Games
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to SoxBlanco's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Commendable that you went out on a limb to predict the record after 81 games but now changing it to much worse than original . It's understandable . Sox need to win 3 of next 4 to be at .500 after 30 . 31 games in 31 days against tougher opponents will surely be a big problem especially without Eloy getting a chance to improve and contribute. Colome /Herrera probably won't be as good nor the rest of the BP against better opponents . The offense as a whole probably also falls back facing better pitching . Positive might be a Cease or Robert call up but I'd guess neither gets called up by game 81. What happens with the starting pitching is anybody's guess. They are a wildly unpredictable group. -
Predict the White Sox Record After 30 Games

I predicted 15-15 but I'll happily take another 4 wins in a row to add to the 3 we have now to finish 30 at 16-14. However the odds on a Sox 7 game win streak is not good. -
Predict the White Sox Record After 30 Games
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to SoxBlanco's topic in Pale Hose Talk
How many games have been postponed because of weather ? That's always part of the problem with predicting the 1st 30 games. Some people only predict a record like 12-15 with 2 weather postponements . Others just go with the 1st 30 playable games even if it does get us a harder opponent the last few games or doubleheaders that might screw up the starting staff and bullpen and get starters rested in the 2nd game. -

Surprised at all? -
Eeyore did sometimes have a rain cloud over his head but most of the time he didn't. Since he mentioned Linus the Peanuts character I did a little research and found out Pig Pen (another Peanuts character) was often thought to have the rain cloud from this article https://legalnoodle.com/joe-btfsplk-rain-cloud-head-not-pig-pen/ Anyone who watched the Peanuts cartoons knew Pig Pen was called Pig Pen because of the dirt and dust surrounding him but it was not above his head nor was it a rain cloud. We also know Linus was the one with the security blanket.

4/30 Games - Zangari is Back in Kanny / #ceaseday

At the 31 /32 second mark sounded like Blister in the Sun by the Violent Femmes -
Not Linus though Charlie Brown was the loser and often people thinks it's also a Peanuts character named PIg Pen who had the dark cloud above his head but he was just always in a cloud of dirt and dust. The original rain cloud character is from the “Lil’ Abner” comic strip by cartoonist Al Capp and the character’s name is Joe Btfsplk.

Passing a Runner after hitting a home run
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to tray's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Hey my outside source and Cal Ripken both think Anderson should not have been even close to 1st base. Take it up with them. If he was where he was supposed to be ABreu doesn't even come close to him. -
Passing a Runner after hitting a home run

Yea hitting that 3 run HR was pretty stupid. Abreu did what he was supposed to do he hit a HR looked down to touch 1st base and lost track of Tim while not expecting him to be standing at 1st base. There is also a 1st base coach to yell hey Jose slow down or stop don't pass Timmy. Lots of mistakes and stupidity to go around . Abreu should be the last one blamed. He did the best thing possible, he hit the damn ball out of the park . -

More support for me. An article by Cal Ripken Jr. https://www.baltimoresun.com/news/bs-xpm-2006-01-22-0601190335-story.html Tagging up from first base often isn't a winning strategy -
Passing a Runner after hitting a home run

Look I was being as objective as possible and even willing to contact an outside source and risk that he might also disagree with me. Did you read his response? It clearly sides with me. I did not say Timmy was at 100% fault clearly some of it is on Abreu and the 1st base coach but even my outside souce said " I do think as the hitter you also need to be aware of the runner and the possiblity that he could be tagging (sometimes that is tough as you are looking to see if the ball gets out of the park or not)." I also mentioned that in my numerous posts on the subject and that Abreu also has to take his eyes off the play to make sure he steps on 1st base. -

They are one and the same my friend. If he was not tagging he would be close to 2nd base instead of in a position to be passed. -

No I'm not . I'm the only individual who is challenging the majority. It is sometimes daunting for other posters to stand with a minority opinion. I don't think my position is outrageous by any means. Primary goal win the game, Must tie the game before you can win it., Secondary goal get the guy on 1st into scoring position but not at the possible expense of the tying run and put him in a position to score if the ball stays in the park but not caught. SO not only are you risking the primary goal by having him tag up you are also risking the other secondary goal of Tim scoring is not caught but stays in the park by going at least halfway if not more What's more important Tim getting to 2nd base or him scoring if we give the chance of a catch or not a catch equal chances. Your way the catch is made and he gets to 2nd base . My way the catch is possibly not made he gets a possible 3 bases and scores and uses that speed for more bases. Also my outside source has answered my email . You can read for yourself what he said. -

Well I said I would go to an outside source and he has emailed me and this is his response. I did not know him .I just saw his tutorials on youtube and just decided to see what his opinion is. I got his permission to print his response and his website. You can decide for yourself if you think his family's credentials are worthy. From: Matt - Antonelli Baseball <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, April 29, 2019 8:08:28 PM To: ro....... Subject: Re: Argument I just watched the play. I think most of the times you will see the runner go as far as they can to 2nd while making sure if the ball is caught they can retreat. However, you do every now and then see a fast runner retreat to tag in an attempt to get into scoring position with 2 outs. Typically you are only going to do this when it is a very deep flyball AND you are very sure the ball is going to be caught. Since this ball was a home run and wasn't a sure catch, I would be as far off the bag as possible while still being able to get back if the outfielder somehow robs the HR. I do think as the hitter you also need to be aware of the runner and the possiblity that he could be tagging (sometimes that is tough as you are looking to see if the ball gets out of the park or not). Crazy play for sure and it's much easier to judge everything from our angle, but those are my overall thoughts. Thanks!! Matt -
I was just going to check the future sox thread. SIlly me should've done it before the post not after.

With Adolfo going down it was probably the right time to promote Robert. I would rather have had him have a few good games after being hurt than having whatever it was 4 or 5 K's in row after he came back just to make sure he is OK. I hate thinking he still might be sore and going to a tough league in that condition.

Ervin Santana has been DFA
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to ChiliIrishHammock24's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Small sample size and hindsight are wonderful things to make an argument seem better. Even better for your argument is ignoring that the Sox were prioritizing ( rightly or wrongly) a 1 year innings eater type for the 4th spot in the rotation and you left out significant incentive clauses. Look at most of those guys innings pitched last year. Miley 80.2 , Buchholz 98.1 and 7.1 in 2017 , Hellickson 91.1 , Ross 26.1 , Shoemaker 36 , Pomeranz 74, If you want to make the argument they would have been good choices for the 5th spot . I can agree with that but given most of their injury history's surely not innings eaters. Cross Gio off the list unless you really think the Sox should have waited til March 19th to sign him. Also you got his salary wrong . Base salary was $3M with a bonus of $300,00 per start with a $12M max. Hellickson also has up to $3M in incentives based on how many starts he makes. Pomeranz can earn an extra $5M if he hits all his incentives also. I was actually all for signing one of Miley, Pomeranz or Buchholz for the 5th starter but I also didn't want to go into the season with Covey or Banuelos and one of those guys as the 4th and 5th starters especially with Rodon coming off shoulder surgery and with Giolito having been terrible last year. Those reasons are precisely why the Sox wanted a guy like Nova to replace Shields. Estrada pitched a decent amount of innings last year but is also 35 years old with a 2018 ERA of 5.64 The last 3 years Nova had been a consistent eaters eater with an ERA of no worse than 4.19 for a full season. Pretty sure he will have some positive regression.
