Anyone interested in Kikuchi?
https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/yusei-kikuchi-to-be-posted-for-mlb-teams-everything-you-need-to-know-about-the-japanese-lefty/ Contract worth $25 million or less: 20 percent of total guarantee Contract worth $25 million and $50 million: $5 million plus 17.5 percent of amount over $25 million (it probably should say contract worth between 25 and 50M) Contract worth $50 million: $9.375 million plus 15 percent of amount over $50 million He has 30 days to sign from when he was posted which was Dec, 4 so he;ll be signed by early January. Boras is his agent. My guess is Kikuchi signs in the between $25M and $50M range. Offer 4/36 see if he bites. 2019 will be his age 28 season Posting fee on that is $5M and 17.5 % of $11M.so another $1.925M so approx. $7M posting fee for a $36M contract. Has shoulder issues not very durable prefers West coast. Sox probably no interest but same agent as Harper so he might come up in coversation.

Winter Meetings Leaguewide Scuttlebutt
I think they're happy to spend all day talking about the Yankees signing Happ. They probably loathe talking about the White Sox. Royals, Tigers, Indians, A's Rockies, Diamondbacks, Padres, I rarely see any of their shows without the lead story being East Coast -centric. Rosenthal and Dan O'Dowd are the only ones with any perspective.

Michael Brantley to Astros 2/32M
No they aren't trying to compete in 2019 . The Nova signing should 've told us all that. Barring miraculous seasons from Moncada, Eloy Giolito, Rodon, Anderson Abreu , Castillo, and the entire bullpen they will not compete even with Harper or Machado. Probably not with Harper and Machado too. Now if they sign another good starting pitcher or take a chance on Kichuchi's shoulder, trade for a 3rd baseman, put Harper at 1st base, add Brantley and trade Abreu for a CF I MIGHT think they are trying to win in 2019. Even then it would still take some miracle seasons from most of the pitching staff and some trade deadline moves to have a shot in the playoffs.

Rosenthal: Could Harper be headed to the southside
Very true. It's very hard to envision. Even in that poll a few weeks ago I picked the lowest chance even though I want it to happen in the worst way.And it's not even the lack of faith I have in Hahn or Reinsdorf. We historically have had cheap or broke owners . When the Yankees were good we were 2nd or 3rd. There's the Black Sox scandal. There's the 94 team that had a shot at a World Series that our own owner sabotaged by being a leader in the cause to keep salaries down that led to the strike. Even the year we won the World Series with a great season and great playoff run it's often a World Series forgotten and that team had really no HOF type guys . Before that 88 years without a World Series win and 46 years between even appearing in one. If you know your White Sox history we have been conditioned to expect the worst and it's incredibly difficult to expect the best. Even if we do sign Machado over Harper it'll feel like we got the wrong guy. It would be so White Sox to get the guy who is possibly the better fit but with a negative reputation like Albert Belle all over again . On a year to year basis I stay optimistic but overall when I think of my favorite team it's a dismal history.

Eloy playing winter ball
So you did check them previously but won't give me a link to check ? OK um thanks ? Forgive me for not trusting your incredibly good mind. But it's really not worth it to check that since we will then start arguing over what exactly constitutes a bad week. Eloy is a badass in my opinion so arguing over a weeks worth of stats is pointless.

Eloy playing winter ball
Yea no. Not going to check the stats on a week by week basis unless you can show me a link to that from the time he joined the Sox. Can I assume you can since you said check the stats ?

I really don't have much of a beef with you. You and I were the only ones here wanting JD Martinez. I was at the forefront in the this year is the big year strategy (as soon as I got over my initial fears that they would be more likely to go to a contender.) I had epic arguments with SS2k and Balta on the subject. I LOVE the fact we can get Harper or Machado , absolutely LOVE it. But I don't think all is lost or we need to grab our pitchforks if we don't get them.

You shouldn't ask question I know you already know the answers to. Next years FA agency is pitching rich. You get another year to see how our AA guys do plus Cease and Dunning. You start filling the gaps with them and maybe use others in trade. It shouldn't be all doom and gloom if we fail on the big guys.

Your negative take on it . If you don't think the Sox can find a Verlander , Lester or JD Martinez type just say so . If you think the rebuild is a failure if they don;t sign Harper and Machado just say so. Stop playing both sides of the fence and have an opinion instead of beating around the bush on everything.
