Are we allowed to get nervous about Moncada at this point?

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 20, 2017 -> 11:50 AM) Giolito does throw a slider as well. Yes he does and from reading his comments on whitesox.com after games he refers to his slider often. -
QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 19, 2017 -> 09:30 AM) Hey Chili, What was your minimum PAs for Avi in our wager? 550? Could be close... Wasn't I in on that bet too:)

Melky Cabrera Traded To Royals

QUOTE (ptatc @ Sep 20, 2017 -> 05:59 PM) The player who seems to have the most fun out there, at least from the games I've attended, was Leury Garcia. You could see it in his step and the way he interacted with fans. Speaking of Leury what the heck happened to him to be out so long. Worried about my AAP. Also would give anyone 3-1 odds Melky will not be back. Would be shocked if the Sox get any veteran bat . -

A couple of pretty competitive games . Pitching holding up well while the hitting has been slumping after that hot streak of hitting. Abreu took some really good pitches to hit tonight. -

I will say this Peacock got some really borderline strike calls on both corners against lefties and righties and also low. Hard to get hits when the plate is so wide. Liriano also got a very generous strike call where Hawk called out the ump " saying cmon you're better than that." -

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 20, 2017 -> 05:43 PM) Poor defense by Moncada and Houston leads 1-0. Lead off walk didn't help I wouldn't call it poor defense he did range far to his right . Probably fundamentally unsound not getting down on the ball to at least knock it down. -

Peacock has a nasty slider he throws more now. Keep an eye on how he switches which side of the rubber he stands on when approaching lefties and righties. -
Shields against Peacock. Game in the 2nd inning now

This series will be good for draft pick status. Stros seeking revenge for that sweep.

Anderson had his first career four-hit game against the Tigers, going 4-for-5 with three singles, a double and two stolen bases. The White Sox shortstop has been on fire as of late. In September, Anderson is batting .428 with four doubles, two homers and eight RBIs to go along with 13 runs and seven stolen bases. He also has nine multi-hit games in his last 12 outings and extended his hitting streak to eight games. Per CSN

QUOTE (Soha @ Sep 16, 2017 -> 03:32 PM) What I would say is. you're probably right that his BABIP won't hold where it is. But there's more to hitting than just BABIP. It's isn't the be all end all. Is it impossible for Avi to continue improving in to next year? What if he starts lifting the ball more than he has in the past? If he maintains his very hard contact and starts lifting the ball, even with an expected drop of his BA - he's going to be an even better player than he's been this year. This sounds very familiar. http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?s=...t&p=3561830

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 16, 2017 -> 05:15 PM) Not overly impressed with Lopez as a starter. Has been a two-pitch pitcher with his slider non-existent. I easily see why many projected him as a late inning reliever. If he's going to be an effective starter, he needs to throw more high fastballs. I see a guy who did a decent job of pitching out of trouble in a lot of innings without anywhere close to his best stuff. He's most likely pitching his highest innings total in his pro career . It;s a good sign that he can pitch not just throw,

Have the sox found an all star in avi?

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 16, 2017 -> 11:38 AM) What? Explain. Would a thread blasting Avi have been better? Because you don't even know if the OP is serious or not. I'd guess not . There's already an Avi thread which was posted shortly after my Avi thread which is likely on page 4 or 5 by now. I think we have shot our wad on Avi. -
QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Sep 15, 2017 -> 09:43 PM) great report. yea according to pitch trax the ump blew several calls. Nice to hear. It is rare to hear things about what goes on pre game on the field and in the dugout. It's refreshing

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Sep 15, 2017 -> 01:35 PM) There's plenty of careful, nuanced, productive chatter on this forum. It's a great place to talk Sox. Just try and ignore the obvious trolls and not take things personally. I had a beef with SS2K back a year or so ago and once I realized that taking offense to everything is a poor attitude (in life as well as message boards) I found him a great poster. Not saying he's a perfect poster (who is) but everybody has opinions that at times you will disagree with, sometimes vehemently. Just don't take it personal or bother responding to it. As for the saber stuff...it's a tool. No more, no less. I played the game throughout my youth, including being a really mediocre DIII outfielder. I didn't even discover sabermetrics until a few years after I graduated but man I really wish I had before I stopped playing -- I think they could have helped me evaluate myself and improve. Scouting has worth as well, it's not an "either / or" analysis. Oh I only have discussions I never get angry . I am here because of the high amount of quality posts , I never block anyone I read everything. But there is and always will be arrogance when arguing . I know I come off that way sometimes with lengthy posts or high and mighty posts sitting a top my high horse , Yea I get judgmental definitely . But when I discuss players I really do try to leave the door open for differences of opinion .

QUOTE (cjgalloway @ Sep 15, 2017 -> 12:40 PM) If Melky Cabrera was 26.. Would you really give him a 5 year 80 million dollar deal? The perfect comp to Avi Garcia is Melky.. period. Perfect example of what I was saying about poster arrogance. Perfect comp is Melky ,PERIOD. So cocksure yet ignored defense you know, the other half of the game besides offense.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 15, 2017 -> 12:17 PM) The interesting bit there is that it rates Avi as completely nuetral. 0. It also suggests he is better than Mike Trout out there who is at -4 .

QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Sep 15, 2017 -> 06:46 AM) Haven't you figure it out? Advanced metrics has made everyone an expert. Players don't improve or make adjustments. That metrics say what they are, end of story. That's true to an extent even if people don't like hearing it . There are tons of stats to look at but we always see one poster mention a stat or 2 to make his point while another poster will list 2 other stats to make his, We never get a valid complete analysis mainly because this is a place to write short quick answers or people skip your post . I often read whole threads from beginning to end but many don't and often the same things are said over and over. Now the argument is going around that Avi is a singles hitter and that's all he will ever be, Maybe the question should be "What percentage of your total hits should XBH's to say that someone is not just a singles hitter? " Is it 10 % 15 ? 20-25 ? We are just taking our best guesses but so many feel validated and qualified to make statements where they are absolutely 100% cocksure of themselves because they found a few stats to support their argument and ignore the others. A competent and fair analyst should look at a stat , ask not only what does it tell me but what doesn't it tell me and follow his curiosity with an open mind without looking for validation of his initial thought process. If you are honest and make a statement like I am no expert or I don't feel qualified it is held against you. Like AHA ! you just said you aren't qualified and I am and my facts and opinion is better than yours because you admitted a weakness. What it boils down to in its most pure form on a message board is opinions are like assholes, everybody has one.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 06:41 PM) A year ago someone would have hit you over the head with a tire iron for this. I love Avi as much as the next guy, but I don't think you do anything going into the offseason. If you get a good offer, deal him, as he has zero history of proving this is sustainable. Would still prefer to roll into 2018 with him in RF. If he keeps hitting, then talk long term. I don't think you cost yourself that much marginal money to wait it out another year. I certainly am not, in any contract situation, paying him $25 million next year, even if it is front loaded. This has always made the most sense. It's entirely possible this is a career year for Avi at least according to batting average and BABIP. There is also the possibility that he develops more or in another direction where is is even more valuable. He could develop his power game and get those 25 -30 HR's with a lower BA and BABIP. Then his SLG % and OPS could be higher leading to a higher WAR if he can eek out some more walks and keep his fielding decent . Of course that O swing percentage thing has to improve and that's no small feat ,but I am pretty sure he is trending in the right direction with the fly ball to ground ball ratio. If not someone will correct me.

More tidbits from whitesox.com He (Moncada) became the third player in franchise history to score five runs and reach base six times, and he is the second player in MLB history to do so within his first 50 games, joining Johnny Frederick, who did it in 1929. Moncada's five runs on Thursday tied the White Sox franchise record, last done by Tim Raines in 1994.
