Blog Roundtable: Writers from 4 Sox blogs talk prospects and the minors
Some times it's not so simple. Now I would agree Moncada takes a lot of called 3rd strikes. Some times a pitcher just aces you. Sometimes you guess fastball and get a curve. Sometimes you look location away and they come in etc etc which would account for many K's to a lot of hitters. Just like many things Moncada has to take baby steps when it comes to eliminating a few K's from his resume. Choking up a little would seem to be the simplest thing. 2nd thing would be if you look location such as away look for pitches above the knees . Up and away are good pitches to drive the opposite way or at least foul off. Choke up and be protective of a zone . If you can eliminate even a small percentage of your K's looking it's good progress.

Where are you on the TINSTAAPP debate?
Sorry. He was the 1st guy I researched and took the first info I saw on baseball reference and didn't notice the 2nd part of it. After that I saw several who had been drafted before but didn't sign but it never occurred to me I missed it on Cole.

So is no one falling on the sword for 2018?
Has he always played fast and loose with the facts like he has been lately ? Seems like deliberately falsifying facts to fit his narrative. Seems odds for him.

Moncada ADD
I had something to add but I lost my focus...nevermind.

Official NHL COVID season thread
Noticing Keith not hesitating to shoot as much as he did last year and much better presence in front of the net offensively.( team not Keith)

That trade shakes confidence in Bowman. If Saad has trouble getting motivated seems like something that would get around and due diligence would've caught.

White Sox projected arb salaries
So you think if Avi has another good year he's worth $100M ? What are you smokin ? If he has another good year he actually might be worth what Caulfield wanted to pay him in the 1st place. Believing in yourself has nothing to do with the possibility of getting injured. $18M is still $18M .might not seem like much when we talk baseball contracts but it's a hell of a lot of money.

Plenty noticed you were gone. Some even expressed concern for your health. You are more infamous than many on this board and having a screen name where everyone knows your first name because of the way you drive everyone crazy and your constant need for attention. At this point you're lucky not to have people telling you to go back into hiding rather than welcoming you back. Welcome back Greg ,glad you didn't die.

White Sox projected arb salaries
I think if he is non tendered and doesn't receive any good offers it's actually good will on the Sox part to offer him more than anyone else.Even on a 1 year deal do you think Avi is going to get an $8M offer ?According to some here he might be worth a minor league contract. What other teams will be willing to give Avi as many AB's as the Sox would to prove himself. If he signs a 1 year deal and flops or gets injured he then enters his age 29 FA year as a non entity, Guaranteeing him money for 3 years plus an option for a 4th might be more enticing than gambling on himself for 1 year.

And you shouldn't say I'm historically incorrect without evidence to back it up.Simple as that. How can I be historically inaccurate if you can't prove otherwise? I have made quite a few posts on guys who have won a World Series then signed with non contenders and guys who have not won a World Series who have signed with contenders just as there are posters who have sited examples of others who have done the opposite. All that does is create arguments that go round and round. I also think the Sox do have a chance to sign Machado but I don't think it's likely, pretty, much the same as most who post here. I won't be the only one eating crow if they succeed.

That kind of offer may not be necessary if he is non tendered and then the Sox resign him to less money after he doesn't get many other decent offers. Let's say they give him $8M in arb this year and he has a break out year. Now the Sox are stuck with either a contract extension , trading him or letting him walk. If they non tender him how many teams do you think give him a 2-4 year offer ? Maybe none. Non tender and offer him 3/$15-18 w/ an option for a 4th year at $10M. He might never break out again but if he does he's locked up for his most likely productive years and until the youngsters arrive.

Rutherford/ Yelich Connection
So do I. actually like Rutherford . I never understand complaints about power in Rutherford ,Sheets, Robert and Madrigal. All I want to see is a sound approach that produces results with gap to gap hitting. I think a young man with a knowledge of spreading the ball around is so much more likely to end up making it . Once you understand the game and yourself and your swing, you can adapt to add power.

Rutherford/ Yelich Connection
Haha I never saw the Trout Engel comps at least not in the swing. Yelich and Rutherford look very similar, body and swing and approach too.
-
Rutherford/ Yelich Connection
I always thought Rutherford reminded me of Yelich. I've said so in a few posts. I had no idea they knew each other. https://www.mlb.com/whitesox/news/blake-rutherford-christian-yelich-share-bond/c-297159502

Having a hard time figuring out the $30-45M contract offer. I assume it's for Abreu ?

When you have a 26 year old having a career year in a rebuild again isn't that the point of a rebuild to let kids develop ? Maybe that's why he wasn't traded. We all know Hahn has shown patience in trades. Perhaps he gambled on back to back solid years from Avi hoping to get more in a trade when whatever was offered wasn't good enough. If you rather play Delmonico and Cordell over Avi so be it but its just an exercise in futility when the talent is inferior to Avi. Even on a rebuilding team they don't have the talent to play full time. They will never get 550 Ab's. They will never hit .300 they will never make an AS team , they might not hit 15 HR's. I just want to keep the more talented players that aren't that old with upside, I don't think that's very hard to understand when there's not a whole lot of talent to begin with in the OF.

It's about ceiling when a great half year could result in a trade for more than he's worth now. So if our next playoff team is in 3 or 4 years we have no room for a 31 or 32 year old outfielder ? One of the reasons the Astros ditched JD Martinez was because they had a promising group of OF on the rise in the minors. The only one who worked out was Springer. Why get rid of Avi with his ceiling when he's blocking no one and many of the minor league OFers still have a lot to prove ? If Avi's a placeholder so be it, I won't shed a tear if a younger guy replaces him or if he is non tendered. I assume we can resign him at a lesser rate if he is non tendered since when I asked you about it the only answer was I like Avi way more than anyone else.

White Sox projected arb salaries
Probably but there is post a few above this one that say's the same things I've been saying not because we like him but because he's way more talented the the rest of the bunch. It's not a higher view of him , it's a lesser view of everyone else. I thought we were trying to find hidden gems. Avi is the best chance at that. Despite his past failures, who among Delmonico, Cordell and whoever else you have in mind has a chance to be as good as Avi can be ?

The response of someone who can't back up what he says, just like with the Herm Schneider accusations, which is why you're attacking me now because I shot down your ridiculous assumptions then.

White Sox projected arb salaries
Do I have to ? Are there MLB rules against non tendering a guy and then resigning him to less money or a multi year contract with incentives that gives him a chance to make more money then his other offers ? If he's not worth anything then surely the offers won't be flying in for such an enigma.

Unlike you, I don't try to make bold and outlandish takes to impress anyone. Unless you can provide me the top 5 players who signed for largest amounts of money for every year since free agency began, what the counter offers were for each of them, the projected analysis for the teams position in the standings , and if those players had ever won a World Series before they signed their FA contracts you'll have to excuse me I I don't trust your word that I am historically incorrect. Your word means nothing.

I know he never hit .330 in the minors with 200+ AB's. I also know he isn't as fast or as good of an OF'er, nor does he have a cannon for an arm like another guy I know . This guy who hit .330 at age 26 in 561 PA's in the big leagues and was an All Star and won't turn 28 till June . The same guy hit 19 Hrs last year in an injury plagued season where he only had 356 AB's with a hitting style very similar to JD Martinez.

Might as well face it. The Sox plan is to suck again next year. They might have plans to sign Machado but they won't. Maybe they can come up with something unique like give him a piece of the team. Signing a big fish or even smaller fish in order to improve slightly is detrimental to another high draft choice.
