  1. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 06:23 AM) I know what you mean as there were a handful of board members that were against the idea when it was just a rumor last November. I give the Sox credit for making a go of it but things just have not worked out and its time to move on. Hopefully Houston is willing to part with a few of their young hitters as it seems they have the most to offer in terms of the Sox needs. Houston is also rumored to be looking for a 1st baseman. Maybe LaRoche wouldn't be better than what they have now but maybe the Astros might like the idea of getting a veteran leader to help the young guys down the stretch. Shark and the Rock both to Houston.
  2. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 05:34 AM) Do you want to be the Nationals and "go for it" in July and not have your best pitcher available in September or October? We all know there is plenty to criticize the Sox for, but if there is one thing they have earned my trust in, it's the handling of Sale's rest and innings. If they think he needs a few more days rest now, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that it's necessary, same with Rodon. It's better than losing him for months at a time because they pushed him at the wrong time. There's a big difference between Chris Sale now and Strasburg back when that happened. If Chris Sale can never pitch in the postseason without extended rest periods during the season how do you actually ever make it to the post season giving Sale a month off every year when every game is so critical to actually getting to the post season ? It's been 6 days since Sale last pitched. Has there been any indication that he needs rest right now ? Sale said " "I don't make calls like that," he said of whether he will start Sunday. "[but] absolutely, any time you get an in-division rival, those are the games you need, those are the games you want. Like I said before, I'm here to pitch, whatever they've got for me, I'm game for it." That was taken from an article by Mark Newman on MLB.com . I just don't think he should miss the entire series with KC and he could pitch right away if they really wanted him to. Chances are the Sox are out of it and anything Sales does will not get them back in it, however a 3 series go for it mentality while starting the 2nd half at home is the right message to send the team and fans. Sale can get all the rest he wants after that and if by some miracle the Sox make a run then Sale will have to do what most pitchers in the postseason do and that's just suck it up and do your best. Right now ,as in the future ,the question will always be "Can the Sox get to the post season while giving Chris Sale rest periods during the season " ?
  3. Very good analysis and it leads to what I having been saying about the possible trade deadline acquisitions and catcher for a while. Right now you take the best available packages you can get and that catcher ,being so thin at the MLB level , should not be a focus of team need. I remember advocating trying to get Iglesias when he was available and also Brock Holt , Anthony Rendon and Juan Lagares when he ( Rendon) was still in the minors . Of course plenty on here shot down my arguments saying guys like Iglesias and Lagares don't hit enough and that Holt might be a one year wonder. Now Holt and Iglesias have become all stars and Rendon came in 5th in MVP voting a year ago. Lagares is generally regarded as one of the best fielding CF's in the game. I have always advocated defense because I knew the Sox strength was always pitching . I'm not saying the Sox could've got any of those players especially Rendon who was a top prospect. What I am saying is defense should always be a huge consideration when you know your strength is pitching. I'd rather get a weak hitting young player with a good glove and hope he can develop his hitting like Iglesias and Lagares than get a guy who supposedly can hit but not play good D . Defense plays at all levels whereas a good hitter in the minors may not hit in the majors and then he is completely useless since his D also sucks.
  4. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 16, 2015 -> 10:22 PM) Well there were 15 scouts at his start where he thee a complete game shutout against a (the?) top hitting team. May not get more heated than that. I also suspect that between now and the deadline, there will be a greater supply of pitchers on the market than there are now. Yes there will be more sellers . The Tigers might decide to sell David Price .There's still Hamels, Cueto, Mike Leake, or any Oakland starter since you never know what Oakland will do. Padres may decide James Shields is movable . Craig Kimbrel and Aroldis Chapman or Jay Bruce might also become available. Rumors are already flying about Justin Upton and Carlos Gonzalez. It's not only starting pitchers that will dilute the market for Shark but any trade that brings players back the Sox are interested in.
  5. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 16, 2015 -> 12:32 PM) Its like you never paid attention to any time Chris Sale has been a member of the White Sox You should explain yourself . Last time Sale pitched was July 11th. Today is the 17th . Sale could pitch today with plenty of rest and certainly should pitch in the series if he is feeling 100%. I understand there have been times when the Sox gave Sale extra rest but is now the time to do it ? If management thinks it is the time then what is that telling the team and the fans about what they think their chances are of getting back into the race. Yes ,many of us think with the hitting the way it is the Sox don't have a prayer of getting back into it but management should not take that position just yet. IF they do they might as well trade Shark ASAP unless they know something we don't about their chances of resigning him. Management should be in "go for it" mode right now . They really only have to be in that mode for the 1st 3 series of the 2nd half and if after that they decide it's over Sale can get plenty of rest after those 3 series.
  6. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 15, 2015 -> 03:30 PM) Not a bust; just may not be ready. No he is not ready although he will hit 102 MPH on occasion and 100 quite often he just doesn't have the 2nd or 3rd pitch to have guys not sitting on the very straight and not well hidden fastball nor can he go beyond 5/6 innings yet .That's why despite the big arm he still doesn't K 1 per inning even at AA. His curve is getting there though and if he could add a reliable changeup he'd be lights out. I highly doubt he'll start . He'll be in the pen if for some reason they need an inning from him.
  7. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 08:02 AM) Hit 101 in the Futures Game. Pretty solid performance. Actually he hit 102 . 3 pitches in a row went. 100, 101, 102 . Didn't seem to be fooling anyone though. 4 straight hits off him including 2 doubles. Maybe he need to hide the ball better ? Seems like the hitters were seeing it well. But perhaps the guys belting him around were from higher levels ?
  8. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Jul 12, 2015 -> 01:50 PM) Jose Quintana is 4-9. White Sox runs scored in the 9 losses: 1-0-1-1-1-0-0-1-1 https://twitter.com/CSNChicago/status/620331908745048064 I told everyone at the beginning of the game thread its The Curse of the Q . What other prove does anyone need ?
  9. White Sox have been on a run that last 2-3 weeks based mostly on pitching and improved defense. Despite a few here frustrated with Sanchez hitting, he has stabilized the D and I see no evidence that he will be replaced by Micah Johnson any time in the near future. Gillaspie is seeing less and less time because of his D . Bonifacio is barely used because he hasn't hit or fielded well in his opportunities. Beckham has fielded well and got some big hits but overall pretty much we we always get or worse from him. Management seems to have adjusted slightly on the fly, perhaps on the urging on Ventura and his pitchers, using Sanchez and now Saladino to plug holes defensively . Of course it's not so easy to fix the hitting which remains a huge disappointment. Will the Sox trade Samardzija ? Are Bonifacio and Gillaspie on the hot seat to be released/traded ? If Samardzija is traded do the Sox also trade LaRoche or some bullpen pieces considering Jones may return along with Albers ? If Samardzija is kept do the Sox trade once again from the minors further depleting any talent they do have down on the farm in an effort is get a more productive offense ? The 4 game series at home against KC after the ASB should give the Sox one last chance to show they can do better within the division since that will probably be the key to moving up in the standings . Frankly I think holding onto Shark would be an epic failure. The Cubs got a boatload for him . Oakland got 3 ML ready players from us plus another player that fit Oaklands style . I don't expect 4 players but should be at least one guy who looks like a decent prospect or more if Shark is packaged with a bullpen arm.
  10. Too easy once again. Give a guy like Arrieta an even bigger strike zone and voila ,you have a 2 hitter. Bonifacio may be out the door very soon.
  11. Caught a break not that it'll make any difference except in the margin of the Cubs win.
  12. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 12, 2015 -> 09:15 AM) That's what I keep telling myself. If we win today I know I'm going to get myself sucked back in just to get pissed off as the season goes on. .Put some conditions on the win. Q must get the W not just the team. Avi must hit 2 HRS etc. That way you need more than just the Sox win to be sucked (back in).
  13. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 12, 2015 -> 09:52 AM) Well aren't you just bright Ray of sunshine! Seriously though, I've had a good feeling about this series since I woke up Friday morning and still feel good about about it. Sox bats will show up like they did yesterday. Sorry mi amigo you have had your share of "feels" the last 2 games. The best you can get today is maybe a Sox win but not a Q win , If you get both the its time to buy a very good bat and let the good times roll.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 12, 2015 -> 07:49 AM) If nothing else this last few weeks is going to drive up prices around the south side, because instead of being forced to sell, they now have to b convinced to sell. It's really tempting to start believing in the team again because we all WANT to believe. IF Q can get a W against the cubs today I'd really get sucked in. Not just a Sox win but a Sox win plus Q must get the W . If the Sox score double digit runs and shut the cubs out , start printing the World Series tickets. I suggest you all cool your jets until this vital game in the future of the season is played.
  15. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 12, 2015 -> 09:37 AM) Of course I hate what they're actually doing. Samardzija, Danks on Friday Quintana on Saturday Sale or Rodon Sunday (TBD) Sale is the most important player the Sox have and in the past has needed periodic rests at some point in the season. An arm injury of any kind to him and they are royally f***ed.
  16. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jul 12, 2015 -> 08:44 AM) 0-7 on the year watching the Sox in person. Cubs have also lost both games I've been to a Wrigley. Time to break a streak. Change your avatar to something Sox related or your curse will continue, if not, stay home . You and the curse of the Q together vs the Cubs will result in a disaster of epic proportions !
  17. It's the curse of the Q striking . That's why Abreu isn't playing. The curse of the Q can include, injuries, bad hitting ,bad fielding , bad umpiring , bad managing , stale beer , tasteless taco's, girlfriends or wives in bad moods , natural disasters ... anything that results in a Q no decision and usually a Sox loss.
  18. I know its just the win talking but I like the lineup yesterday without LaRoche in against the lefty.
  19. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Jul 11, 2015 -> 10:31 AM) Nate Jones pitched a scoreless inning at Single-A Winston-Salem on Fri. Gave up hit. Of eight pitches, four were 100 mph. #WhiteSox https://twitter.com/CSNHayes/status/619913567622574080 4 at 100 ? Did he throw that hard before his injury ?
  20. DVR'd both games since I was working. Tempted to DVR it tomorrow too cuz superstitious but I know I'll watch it live. If Q can get a win I actually might start believing in this team again . Just sayin' the Curse of the Q is real and Arrieta will be a handful for Sox hitter. Congrats Saladino on your 1st ML hit. You made it count !
  21. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 10, 2015 -> 03:53 PM) Hitless Wonders 2.0? I've been thinking that for a week. Hitless defenseless wonders but damn Sanchez is fun to watch on defense. No way do the Sox send him back down . He's the pitcher's best bud/amigo. Love his range, his jump throws and a new wrinkle today, that under hand flip to 1st to complete the DP.
  22. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Jul 10, 2015 -> 07:16 PM) All of those 'seasons' add up to him having played a total of one season so far. And he's still young. He's actually a few months younger than Trayce Thompson. Aaargh but he is what he is what he is ! No Sox young hitter shall ever have a breakout season ye know nothin' landlubber !
