  1. I know I must've beat hordes of posters knocking down doors to start this game thread with the legendary Jacob Turner the starting pitcher for today. I missed Sox games during the All Star break and now that they are playing again I miss them scoring runs. I also miss the winners threads and putting the winning rock song that I think best fits that days victory. So today I am picking the song ahead of time. It is from the Vines album entitled Winning Days (seems liked a good choice) and the song is called F.T.W. which usually means in internet speak " for the win " doesn't it ? Anyway here is a link to the song on youtube. . If you click on it you will see the album cover with a "parental advisory " on it. That should give you a hint of what the Vines are actually singing about but hey it's a good jam so listen to it and discover what FTW really means. And if the Sox should happen to lose this game when they have been playing so well lately and at a place where they have had so much success , FTW could always mean f*** the White Sox . Thank you for your anticipated participation in this game thread. and FTW .
  2. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Jul 16, 2016 -> 09:47 PM) There's an opportunity to extend him as well. He has 5-6 years of good performance left, and the team that trades for him has 2 of those years and the highest probability of getting the rest. No come on please you just didn't say the E word did you? Who the hell passes up free agency unless they are tied to an organization since birth? Lucroy wouldn't have any such loyalty to the Sox and they certainly wouldn't try to extend a catcher into his late 30's. The Sox have never had a contract over what Abreu got and that was because he was 27 when they got him. There are those who say Sox management is cheap and that's true to some extent because being cheap is smart business money wise but in the MLB dumb contracts are the norm, trading good years for bad years at the end of the contract. Signing a catcher, a highly physically demanding position, to such a contract and getting nothing but reclining years is out of the question for the Sox. But someone will do it.
  3. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 16, 2016 -> 11:45 PM) Let's put it this way... When the pinch ran Saladino for Melky in the 9th - I was pissed. Why? Because I wanted a contact hitter like Saladino up there for Frazier in that situation. You honestly think anyone would pinch hit Saladino for Frazier ? It might make sense on some level knowing Frazier batting average with men in scoring position but no one pinch hits for a #5 hitter with a bench scrub ever. It's almost as bad for calling for Abreu to bunt.
  4. Please send Fulmer back down before he is infected with the very virulent strain of Soxitis that is running rampant through them now.
  5. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 16, 2016 -> 09:28 PM) He's a troll and honestly not a very good one. I know that term gets thrown around a lot (I'm guilty of doing so myself), but this dude is the most blatant troll I can remember on this site in the 10+ years I've been here. I don't know what purpose being a troll is when it's so blatantly ridiculous unless someone just likes seeing people respond to him or gets a twisted laugh out of it. I mean by definition if I make an argument I really don't believe in or do it to play devils advocate , I am a troll even if my argument makes sense isn't that correct ?
  6. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Jul 16, 2016 -> 08:04 PM) Fulmer is a maybe starter who has an absolute ceiling of a #1 starter and a floor of a middle reliever. Lucroy is an all-star catcher who likely has 5-6 good years left in him. Your analogy doesn't add up. I might have to take back my compliment about you making sense if you think the team that trades for Lucroy is getting 5 or 6 years from him. They get the rest of this year and next and that's it.
  7. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 16, 2016 -> 09:09 PM) For the love of god, sin city sox is a troll. I can't believe some of you guys are wasting your time responding to him. Well either a troll or a guy who knows nothing about baseball and thinks he does or some really old guy who saw Ted Williams bunt once.
  8. QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Jul 16, 2016 -> 08:43 PM) He couldn't lay down a bunt in the 9th inning though in a situation that would have led to a tied game. Either he is incompetent or Robin was just an idiot. Regardless, something gotta change. You would be more accurate if you said he didn't hit the ball to the right side which he is pretty good at. His success early in the game pulling Shoemaker's pitches made him try to pull it which was probably bad thinking . Sometimes Abreu is his own worst enemy . He wants to drive in runs and swings at pitchers pitches too often with guys on base. Some times you have to trust your team mates behind you and take a walk when the pitcher gives you nothing good to hit. I'm also being very kind since no one but you thinks an Abreu bunt should 've been tried there.I'm not sure in all his time with the Sox if he has ever bunted or jokingly squared around to bunt.
  9. QUOTE (Insp @ Jul 16, 2016 -> 08:39 PM) So you think that Morneau will be better in future games? Why do you think that? Are you just incurably optimistic? Are you incurably pessimistic ? Of course he will do better . Since he was 0-4 getting one hit means he will be better in future games. He's had like a 7-8 month layoff from hitting with a rehab duration of around 30+ plate appearances between the minors and today. It takes a whole team to be shut out 3 straight games and Morneau played a full game in just todays game. But hey there's a possibility he goes hitless the rest of the year if he perishes tragically very soon.
  10. QUOTE (Insp @ Jul 16, 2016 -> 08:31 PM) Morneau swings at 3 straight pitches outside the strike zone to lose the game for us. What a horrible signing as all he's done is keep Saladino from having quality playing time. Wow based on 1 game. Way to go for crackpot analysis.
  11. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 16, 2016 -> 08:22 PM) Why is Shoemaker still in there? Because the sinker can get a DP and Sciosia is old school.
  12. Ok Saladino don't get picked off and Frazier make him elevate the pitch,
  13. Sox need to start a bonfire and throw their bats in it.
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 16, 2016 -> 07:54 PM) Swinging at good pitches. Better than the rest of the team can say. Yep. Somehow people get the idea that 1st pitch swinging is bad, At times it certainly is. They showed a stat during the All-Star game what some of the All Stars hit on 1st pitches and most were like in the .300's,.400's ,and .500's and one was like .661.
  15. Woo hoo 29 straight scoreless innings. Oh Abreu I love the 2 doubles . But did you really think Shoemaker was going to throw you a strike there with 1st base open and you hitting him well the 1st 2 AB's. A smart hitter like Ortiz would've took that pitch 99/100 times.
  16. Anaheim is the new Oakland . Cy Santiago and Cy Shoemaker. 2 1/2 game stretch of scoreless baseball is so exciting. So now that Shields is pitching fairly decently the last 4 outings giving more hope going froward the offense drains that hope away.
  17. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 16, 2016 -> 05:57 PM) Hello everyone. The Morneau era is here From one lefty Frenchie DH (LaRoche) to another. Let's hope Morneau doesn't surrender as meekly as the other guy did.
  18. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Jul 16, 2016 -> 05:23 PM) So improving the team won't improve that? You make a good argument and everything you say is true. Unfortunately with good hitting catchers at a premium I fear the Sox get easily out bid for him IF the Brewers decide to trade him now. Fulmer is probably the 1 guy Hahn won't trade just like Anderson ,not so much because he wouldn't trade him, but because there is no one in the farm system even close to being ready for the majors unless you count Ranaudo, who probably should've been called up to take Rodon's 1 start instead of Turner. I highly doubt the Sox get that 1 big bat they are looking for unless Reinsdorf signs off on a big contract like he did with Rios since he got burned by that one. The more money the Sox take on the less they have to give up. Lucroy doesn't fit that mold because he has a reasonable contract for the time remaining before free agency, so the Brewers will want the best package of prospects they can get.
  19. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 16, 2016 -> 09:30 AM) With Morneau now, I wonder if they'll push Anderson down to 9, and go Melky at 2? Eaton, Cabrera, Abreu, Morneau, Frazier, Lawrie, Garcia/Shuck, Catcher, Anderson No way I'd bat him last since he's probably one of our best hitters already. The speed at the bottom of the lineup does nothing for me since the Sox are a poor offensive team. Get the best hitters the most AB's and the worst hitters the least. Our catchers should be hitting 9th.
  20. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 16, 2016 -> 05:12 PM) Still no Saladino. You'll see him even less now with Morneau on the team. If he couldn't get AB's with Avi as the primary DH he won't be getting any more now. I do think it's a good idea to get him in at 3rd base to DH Abreu against lefties with Frazier moving to 1st. Also to rest Lawrie and Anderson once a week. 2-3 times a week in the lineup would be good use of him.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 15, 2016 -> 01:43 PM) What did I miss? He literally had a sore ass.
  22. Wondering if Robertson is good to go for tonight .
  23. QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Jul 14, 2016 -> 03:30 PM) Like others have said, he's getting paid $1.5M this year and has not done very well in Charlotte. He would most likely slip through waivers. But , but why not bring the guy up with the best chance to help the team like Ranaudo . Hard to believe the Sox would sacrifice a game just to save $ .5M .
