FG projects Sox as having 3rd biggest fall off in defense
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Feb 4, 2017 -> 06:44 AM) No offense dude, but what Avi bias is there around here? The dude flat out sucks at all aspects of the game other than throwing. I asked for his 2015 DRS numbers simply because that was that last time he was a regular in RF. You are really reaching if you think people around here aren't objective when it comes to Avi. None taken dude. Negativity always outweighs positivity. Men feel better about themselves when they insult rather than praise so you are just typical of the gender. No offense dude.

FG projects Sox as having 3rd biggest fall off in defense
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Feb 3, 2017 -> 07:32 AM) Avi was -11 DRS in 2015. I know the Avi bias around here is bad but why list his 2015 DRS? His Fangraphs DRS in 2016 was in the positive territory at 2 runs saved. His overall defense was also iin positive territory at 3.2 which places him 4th amongst all the right fielders in baseball. However to be fair he had limited innings there.

Rangers have increased pursuit of Q?
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 04:47 PM) Tired of the Astros and Pirates. Would like to see another team come in out of nowhere and make an offer Hahn can't refuse. Sick of Luhnow and Huntington. Pirates need to cave on Meadows then try to low ball the Sox on the other pieces. Once they can agree on the headliner I think the chances of a trade greatly improve. Based on all our thinking that the Sox want Meadows as the headliner .

Blue Jays have "discussed" Robertson
QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Jan 29, 2017 -> 06:20 AM) No doubt that there are probably a few teams looking for bullpen help that are interested in Robertson to some degree. My guess is that those teams will send scouts to the WBC to see how he performs before they make an offer for him. There will be plenty of scouts there regardless taking a peek at the International talent but there is a chance Robertson never pitches . Depends on how far Team USA gets and if any of the pitchers added before Robertson decide to step aside or have an injury.

Frazier Trade Discussion
QUOTE (credezcrew24 @ Jan 29, 2017 -> 11:50 AM) Players are less likely to accept a QO now that the compensation has been lessened. My point was that would be after this season is over . Just can't see him still being on the Sox for the full season when there's still a shot at him being traded before the season starts and during the season.

Frazier Trade Discussion
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 28, 2017 -> 01:45 PM) It does make some sense. I understand the value of having a guy like Frazier in the locker room and on the field to help show young guys how hard they have to work, practice, study film, and whatever else. On the other hand, you are also removing potential value from a rebuild in getting a younger player in a position to succeed Frazier at 3B while also removing any potential value you may get from Frazier in a potential trade. I would take this year by year. Under the new CBA, you can only a qualifying offer to a player once, so I'd let this year run its course, keeping Frazier available in a trade but only at the price of a late 2nd round pick (say a 50 FV player and a lottery ticket), and if no one bites, you offer him a qualifying offer. If he accepts, you have him for 2018 too, and if he does not, then you recoup the value, even if it's a year later. At that point, a 1 year, $18 million contract is not going to kill the White Sox. If Frazier makes it to the point that the Sox have to decide whether to give him a QO it will shock me.

Blue Jays have "discussed" Robertson
Robertson and Nate Jones both look like they will be pitching for team USA in the WBC at some point. Don't know if it's for the 1st series of games or as replacement pitchers if Team USA advances.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 29, 2017 -> 09:49 AM) You of all people are going to be the fun police? Could be that kind of joke is poking fun at those players who thank God for everything. Religious jokes should be just as off limits as race jokes. And I am not very PC but people in the public eye need to be.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 29, 2017 -> 08:07 AM) There was a picture floating around of all the young guys lined up on stage together at some point and I can't find it now. Anyone have it? https://twitter.com/FutureSox/status/825109...src=twsrc%5Etfw

MLB.com Top 100
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 29, 2017 -> 12:45 AM) We all heard the same about Beck coming out of Georgia Southern (projected to go 1-1 to 1-5)...but hopefully Hansen's the real deal. And Basabe should the next position prospect to pop up on that list. Chris Beck also didn't even come close to the numbers Hansen did at Great Falls. Hansen destroyed the hitters there whereas Beck got hit around pretty good.

White Sox Media Hits Thread
Don't know if this counts but MLB Network broadcast 50 Oddest plays of 2016 and White Sox triple play against the Rangers where Eaton caught the line drive to right threw to Abreu who chased around the runner before tagging him out then threw home and Fielder was caught between 3rd and home before getting tagged out in a rundown. The 1st 9-3-2-6-2-5 triple play in MLB history. Q was pitching. http://m.mlb.com/video/topic/0/v613559383/...th-bases-loaded

MLB.com Top 100
QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Jan 28, 2017 -> 09:24 PM) My worry with Hansen is how well he responds to a taste of adversity. It sounds like he just fell apart mentally when things went wrong at Oklahoma which caused him to lose the zone. It sounds a little paradoxical, but I'll have a hard time believing in him until he has a bad month and bounces back. Guys who can make it are the guys who can put a bad outing, or even series of outings, behind them. I don't think you are qualified to conclude his mental state . His problem with the strike zone is pretty much all in his mechanics which he has a hard time repeating due to how large he is, It's a common problem with tall pitchers . Randy Johnson took a while to find the strike zone. Hopefully with strength , flexibility and core work and the changes the Sox made he can repeat his delivery more consistently.

QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Jan 28, 2017 -> 07:29 PM) Hansen could jump too. He certainly could. All he has to do is keep throwing strikes. His stuff is outstanding . He was projected to be a top pick if not the # 1 overall pick in the 2016 draft but he lost the strike zone at Oklahoma and the SOx nabbed him in the 2nd round made a few minor changes and he started looking like that # 1 pick again. Kanny should be a much bigger obstacle for him than was Great Falls where he DOMINATED. If he does well you could see him in the top 100 by the mid-season rankings.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 28, 2017 -> 12:08 PM) Did anyone here attend one of the Rick Hahn Town Halls? If so, was there anything worth sharing? Wasn't able to make it, but am dying to here if there any interesting things insights. Post 42 in this thread said SSS mentioned when the time is right the Sox will spend big .What the Sox idea of spending big means is any ones guess.

Keith Law Top 100
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 27, 2017 -> 05:00 PM) So Law has never seen Tatis play. I would imagine it is the same with many he has ranked. Why is everyone so enamoured with his rankings? I for one don't give a rats ass about anyone's ranking of prospects . I take it for what it is ,just one mans opinion, which in the grand scheme of thing means squat. Soon enough the shine will wear off some of these prospects or it will get shinier. Since I am a Sox fan I sure hope it gets shinier but if it doesn't it isn't like I 've never seen prospects fail before.

Fangraphs not optimistic on Anderson's bat
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 11, 2016 -> 04:44 AM) Iirc, similar things were said about Alexei and he turned out just fine. Heck, Alexei even learned how to draw more walks. The Sox are rebuilding, Anderson is just 23 years old and I see nothing to be worried about at this point. It's often difficult for an old guy like me to participate in conversations regarding baseball because it seems so much of it is projection and analysis by strictly looking at numbers. And the truth is there is so much info out there I'm not sure that these writers even know how to analyze it all yet or if they even can at all given how players often overcome obstacles to rise to the top. The fun of baseball is that I can optimistically watch young players on my favorite team and look forward to seeing then in an All Star game or playoff games at some point or simply to just enjoy a big hit in a big moment or a spectacular fielding play. Needlessly worrying about numbers ruins all the fun. There is a wide range of opinions when looking at all those numbers. I am reminded of this when I see someone like Bill James, the father of Sabermetrics, ranking Melky Cabrera #5 among the top 10 left fielders in baseball when no one else on the panel had him on their top 10 lists at all.

Which player will outperform expectations ?
I'll have to go with Tim Anderson. If he shows any ability to learn the strike zone he'll make huge strides because his bat is tremendous. Looking for him to be at 4+ fWAr this year.

Which player will outperform expectations ?
With no movement in trades it's a little slow around here . Make a prediction on who you think will do better than expected. It can be a player on the MLB roster or a minor leaguer who may have a break out season. No explanation necessary. Might be just a feeling but feel free to expound on something that might have caught your eye be it a statistic or some change that the player made that might take hold. Can even be one of the highly touted prospects .

Yordano Ventura, Andy Marte both killed in separate car accidents
QUOTE (JoshPR @ Jan 22, 2017 -> 11:30 AM) Even more crazy and in a twist of fate is that andy marte' last gme in the majors was in 2014 against the royals started by Yordano Ventura Also a few days after Oscar Taveras died Ventura had RIP OT on his cap during the World Series. God rest his soul and condolences to all who loved him.

Teams have upped their offers in Q derby in the last week
QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jan 19, 2017 -> 12:06 PM) From all I have seen, its been noted that the Rockies have very little interest in Q because they don't think that his pitching style will play well in their stadium. They had concerns about how the altitude would lessen the break of his curve ball and that he doesn't strike enough guys out to fit what works there. If that is truly how the Rockies think they are full of hot air or just downplaying Q's abilities. Just look at their best 5 starters from 2016. Of Gray ,Anderson , De La Rosa, Chatwood and Bettis only Gray had a better K/9 than Q. They all had higher ERA and WHIP than Q and that's in a league without the DH. Trying to predict how Q would do in Colorado is a fools errand, He'd have 1 less professional hitter to face and if his curveball was hurting him he would make adjustments. He's no dummy out on the bump. He would instantly become no worse than their 2nd best starting pitcher.

Teams have upped their offers in Q derby in the last week
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jan 18, 2017 -> 11:31 AM) I'd love to see the Rockies make a play for Q and offer up Rodgers/Dahl, Hoffman/Pint, Murphy, Freeland, Tapia, Marquez (some combination of) Rodgers and Dahl are going to be studs It would be so Q-like for him to end up in that hitters paradise.
