QUOTE (whtsoxfan @ Dec 8, 2014 -> 09:35 AM) You mean Thursday December 11 , Tuesday us the 9th OK then maybe thats not a current page because I got that straight from the article maybe the documentary was from 2012? Never mind about stickying it then. But the video's are still interesting as is this http://chicagosidesports.com/36-years-with-minnie-minoso/ and this from SSS with even more links at the bottom about Minoso http://www.southsidesox.com/2012/12/11/375...ing-remembering

QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 6, 2014 -> 06:05 PM) Golden Era Committee vote is tomorrow. The announcement is Monday. Here's hoping those voting get a good night sleep and do the right thing. If Minnie Minoso doesn't get it in, it would be a damn shame. This needs to stay near the top of the front page at least for today since the vote is today. Not enough current Sox fans can relate to Minoso they way they should like Cubs fans can relate and cherish Ernie Banks. Yes I know Minnie was a notch below Banks in talent and certainly in exposure to the public eye. If you want to learn more about Minoso here's a link with a few short videos about him on it. There's no date on the page but it must be pretty recent because it says the the Minoso documentary will air on WTTW/Channel 11 in Chicago on Tuesday, December 11 from 10 to 11 pm. I think the date and time of the docomentary should be stickied Edit: I'd feel silly if that date was for 2013. Someone must know. OK I feel sillier now . Probably from 2012. As Roseanne Rosannadanna used to say . "OH Nevermind".

Sox Sign David Robertson - 4 yr, $46 mil

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 8, 2014 -> 06:30 AM) Okay so be ready to call me out. I have long been a draft pick defender and advocate of not signing players with QO's attached. I'm still not advocating doing so but pondering a strategy. If the Sox sign David Robertson and give up their 2nd round pick, would it benefit to dip back into free agency this year for another QO free agent? If they were to sign two players with QO's, they would be giving up their 2nd and 3rd round picks. While just writing that statement makes me cringe a little bit, does it make sense to do it at this point? I was saying that weeks ago in the VMart thread. With the salary room and protected 1st rounder I was pretty sure this was the year the Sox would sign some free agents more than they would make trades . The fact they have very little talent to actually trade also played a big role in my thinking. But if you look through that thread again I was told many times the Sox weren't close enough to contention yet. I have followed the Sox and baseball for many years and have learned a few things along the way. When everything is telling you the time is now, it usually is. -

QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Dec 8, 2014 -> 05:09 AM) I certainly hope he is extended right away if they trade for Samardzija. It'll be interesting to see what happens this week. If Sox lock up Shark long term it would shock the baseball world. That's how unlikely it is. -

QUOTE (midway @ Dec 6, 2014 -> 05:32 PM) I've been waiting to see what happens with this kid, seeing if other teams would be willing to take a chance with him. But now, after reading the link here there is no way I would want any part of this kid's drama and his agent is Boras...no thanks!!! There's always Asdrubal Cabrera.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 2, 2014 -> 05:44 AM) Russell is one of the top 5 prospects in baseball. He was a top 10 prospect in the game when he was traded last year. That was a really bad trade last year. Where is Anderson in the top 100 ? I think he'll have a huge year in AA Birmingham and be near top 10 status soon after. Lillian did you say he had a weak arm ? The Kiley McDaniel in depth review of the top Sox prospects says he has a plus arm and a shockling low amount of problems for a guy his age. New top 100 lists come out in February so I guess we'll see how he ranks then. -
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 1, 2014 -> 08:15 PM) Can someone explain to me why I keep seeing Michael Saunders name all over this board? Why do people want him so bad? He looks like a worse version of De Aza, whom we all hated. Maybe you can explain why you think he's worse so people who like Saunders can make some counterpoints. Feel free to use the internet to look things up. If I thought Pollock was available like Seattle has said Saunders is available I would prefer Pollock. A name like Pollock is just too perfect for the Chicago area.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 7, 2014 -> 05:48 AM) Per a source we've spoken with who works with the front office of a DWL team... Rangel Ravelo injured his hand in his first game of the season down there, and is no longer with the club. He apparently tried to fight through it, but had trouble gripping a bat. So he hasn't played since then, and is now headed home. I don't have any other word on the severity of the injury. So nothing to report on how our players did in the Dominican, PR, Austrailian and Venezuelan Winter Leagues ? Seems strange to start threads about it then have no hitting or pitching updates . -
QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Dec 1, 2014 -> 02:54 PM) I don't disagree with you. I would be content with Saunders in LF as well. Just think Rick & Co. have their minds on a bigger prize.. I think Saunders has a 4 WAR season in him. With a full healthy season he could achieve it.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 30, 2014 -> 05:50 PM) I don't know how we all know Alexei won't be better. 2 years ago he dropped to a 1.9 WAR and it was said he is on the downslope and only going to get worse. The next year he puts up a 3.1 WAR, and last season a 3.3 , when again, he is supposedly just going to get worse. Steamer projects a 2.3 next season, which supposedly is good for $10 million. If they do trade him, if it is for a Davidson like prospect that doesn't pan out, it will be a godawful trade, even if people post the "you make that trade 10 times out of 10". BS. The 1.9 you speak of was when his father in law was killed so he had personal issues to deal with while being 31 years old at the time. The seasons he's had since then are the sole reason why he's our best bet to get higher level talent. Father time will win the battle as he does every time. If you have to bring up Davidson as a reason why he shouldn't be traded when do you trade for young talent? It's guaranteed Alexei will eventually get worse with every passing year. Like Shack said better a year too early than a year too late. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 30, 2014 -> 04:42 PM) On a broadcast at the beginning of September, they showed a graphic which gave SS points, x amount for making a routine play, another amount for making plays considered out of regular range, and Alexei had basically clinched the win with a month to play. I think the story of his demise is being exaggerated just as they have been the past few years. If they do trade him and don't sign a replacement, I think many will find out he was a bit better than they think. A poor defensive team taking a step back defensively at SS is going to make all those who think the Sox don't have a chance next year correct. Only 8 SS had a higher WAR in 2014, 3 of those only .1 higher, so for what he gets paid, and considering he was only going to get worse 2 years ago, I wouldn't get rid of him unless you are very sure you have a legitimate replacement. The "we love Alexei but father time never backs down" group which includes me isn't really thinking about a replacement for him but getting more controllable talent either in the farm or ML ready. He's a trade chip that still has plenty of value which is why many don't want him to go but the Sox are filled with stars and stiffs and we just need more talent. The fact that Alexei is pretty much our only realistic movable trade chip among the position players bears that out. Are you confident that some of our better players from last year won't regress. ? Flowers ? Gillaspe ? Quintana , Sale, Eaton , Abreu may all have just had career years. It's hard to say that considering they all are just getting started but it might be true . We know Alexei isn't going to get better but others are also candidates for regression and more talent around the core needs to be addressed. -

QUOTE (Lillian @ Nov 30, 2014 -> 04:08 PM) Do you rate Saladino as a better defensive SS than L. Garcia's and Diaz? Again, irrespective of offensive ability. I'm asking only about defensive prowess. Do you think that Sanchez, who is purportedly much better suited for 2ND, is defensively behind all three of the players just mentioned? I'm surprised, as I thought that Saladino was just barely adequate defensively, but had a decent bat. I don't think there are too many people qualified to say who is the best defensive SS among the AAA and above bunch on this website and even among scouts there might be differences of opinion considering all the young men involved are not finished products defensively or offensively. I thimk you're trying to force the issue a little too much but that's ok because you enjoy the interaction with fellow fans. At this point I'll just let December January and February unfold and whatever happens the team should be improved for next year . Beyond that there are still more surprises to come. . -

QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Nov 30, 2014 -> 12:14 PM) Was just reading that it's looking like the A's will be looking for 2 or 3 "top prospects" for Samardzija. Not sure the Sox are willing to do that. Tear down the farm system for a rental... Thoughts? http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/11/al-c...samardzija.html Beane didn't seem all that picky on giving up 4 years of Donaldson. Now he wants the moon for 1 yr. of Samargarini ? -

QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Nov 29, 2014 -> 04:35 PM) So what's a reasonable trade for Samardzija, operation on the assumption that he won't sign an extension? Semien and what other 2 prospects? That there is the main question along with would it be more than Shark ? If it happens you can be sure that this place willl be split on the trade because people don't like giving up prospects , period, and for a rental ? Oh this place would be screaming bloody murder. But even if this deal doesn't go down , you can probably be sure that a pitcher of Sharks caliber is being targeted and is a priority. -
