  1. As much as I called for Ventura's firing there was no way it was going to happen. Like someone said Manto was fired for not being an ex-Sox. Don't expect Baines or Boston gone either. It would shock me.
  2. We avoided the 100 loss mark. How many runs do we need to get to 600 today ?
  3. It was nice to see the HR's by Viciedo and DeAza in the 9th. Too bad it got spoiled by the grey-beard.
  4. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Sep 21, 2013 -> 07:42 PM) He is brain dead Maybe all the fast guys are already in the lineup.
  5. Brilliant Robin PH Dunn with 1st base open probaly won't pinch run for him either .
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 21, 2013 -> 07:33 PM) Granderson's name is mentioned in this http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20...ws&c_id=cws I still can't believe how insulting it is that they say they're dedicated to spending the money they'll have for the draft/international signings. That should have been the case no matter what the payroll ended at this season. That just Merkin speculating like we do.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 21, 2013 -> 07:29 PM) Welcome home Granderson! Oh God no. 2nd move should be saying adios to Paulie.
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 21, 2013 -> 07:21 PM) Just read on mlbtraderumors that he's likely to be the top target for the Rangers this offseason. I have a very hard time picturing McCann signing with a 100 loss team. Rangers might be the top team in the Abreu sweepstakes too.
  9. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Sep 21, 2013 -> 07:17 PM) White Sox can never do what the Tigers did in the 9th. I feel bad for Sale. Robin just continues to be such a piss poor manager. Ventura has to go culture under him is bad. Firing Ventura should be the 1st move the Sox make once the season ends.
  10. Still not going to bring in Veal for Fielder ??/ After 4 walks ?? Finally !!
  11. QUOTE (scs787 @ Sep 21, 2013 -> 07:07 PM) I may be wrong but I don't think you can do that. You can . It's done all the time.
  12. QUOTE (scs787 @ Sep 21, 2013 -> 06:59 PM) Tuiassasopo(or whatever) was on deck when they made the move I believe. Once Dirks was announced as the PH for Tui then you change pitchers. Pretty simple.
  13. Ventura is an idiot . 4 straight hits and Dirks PHing and you don't bring in Veal ??
  14. I'm actually kind of bummed that Kepp still plays as much as he does . I recently read where Conor said he's starting to "get it" against major league pitching and if I'm not mistaken he's beed showing it. But he's getting less playing time now that Semien is playing some 3rd base. I think Beckham need to sit a little more and start resting up that hand for next year if he is still here.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 18, 2013 -> 10:33 AM) The other thing is most of the biggest bidders already have 1B. I expect Texas to be a major bidder , probably Boston and the Mets also . Sox should be in the running to round out the top 4.
  16. QUOTE (SpainSOXfan09 @ Sep 17, 2013 -> 12:04 PM) Just to temper the mood on Abreu Jerry Crasnick (ESPN) has a nice article up detailing his shortcomings and basically giving us a buyer beware summary. The talent evaluators mostly agree that Abreu has legit power if he can harness it but will be challenged by fastballs in tight and breaking balls at te MLB level. The article says he has no value as a base clogger and may be a bit heavy but at thend it is pointed out he has trimmed down a bit. They try to guess his contract value and mention something like a 4 year 40 million contract. http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/page/onenat...se-dariel-abreu It doesn't mention the Sox as a potential team to match him up with but maybe that is a good thing. Unless they changed the article ,it does mention the White Sox have payroll flexibility after the Peavy and Rios trades. When you see these scouting reposrts it makes me wonder if they purposely point out his flaws since they work for teams that might have an interest in Abreu in order to try to keep the bidding down. I expect him to get more than Cespedes or Puig because there is a lack of quality 1st basemen in the minors and also in the Majors. I would be surprised if the bidding doesn't reach $9-10M a year, 4-6 years.
  17. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 10, 2013 -> 11:25 PM) 40% is not recouping a LOT of their money...not even a majority of their money. Where did you ome up with the 40% figure ? Link please ? And even if it was 40% , the contract was 5 yrs. $65M he played 2 years at 13M per season so they paid $26 for his services. That leaves 3 yrs at $39 M remaining so it's safe to say insurance paid at least most of that $39 million which I would call a lot and upwards of 50% of the orignal contract.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 11, 2013 -> 07:31 PM) Semien showing the difference in control between MLB and minor league pitchers He's far from ready. All that good batting eye stuff went right out the window when facing ML pitchers with ungodly breaking pitches.
  19. it's really shocking how poor these young Sox hitters are . I havent seen so many swings and misses on down and away breaking pitches that miss the strike zone by a foot.
  20. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Sep 10, 2013 -> 08:48 PM) I just meant in general. Not Sox only I know what you meant it just didnt answer my original question which my own subsequent answer did.
