QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 19, 2011 -> 04:45 PM) Source Code had a stupid ending. Here's a story that probably isn't funny to anyone but me. In Fall 2007, I was taking a Business Presentations class, and the prof knew someone in the film industry and could get her hands on scripts that were actually floating around the industry at the time (the assignment was to read the script and pitch it to the class as if they were executives wanting to buy it). So I read it, and thought it was one of the stupidest things I'd ever read. Then I found out Topher Grace was already connected to the project and it had been picked up and whatnot. Flash forward four years and it's in movie theaters and gets decent reviews (I think, haven't paid too much attention). Shows what I know.

Who doesn't like comma jokes? Probably NSFW, but it's not that bad.

I taped (I know it's no longer "taping" but it's just the verb that comes naturally to me) the pilot of the Playboy Club, and I'll watch it at some point this week. Not quite sure what to expect.

That is 18 kinds of awesome.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 15, 2011 -> 10:43 AM) http://www.chicagonow.com/chicago-food-sno...ke-me-look-fat/ My biggest issue with this is the McDonald's case reference. The plaintiff was a 79 year old grandmother who spilled coffee on her groin and had third degree burns. She initially filed suit for only $20,000 to cover medical costs, loss of income, etc. (ie no punitive damages). McDonald's offered $800! Yeah, you can debate all you want that she shouldn't be able to sue for spilling coffee on herself. But the fact of the matter is, she was a 79 year old grandmother who got 3rd degree burns on over 6% of her body. Is that really the case you want to pursue, McDonald's? Really? They should have settled for what she initially asked for, and it would have went away and no one would have heard about it. /endrant

Foo Fighters were f***ing incredible last night. They played for 2.5 hours, and brought the house down. They played two covers in the encore (Tom Petty and Queen)...they were clearly having a good time, since the Queen cover (Tie Your Mother Down) was completely spontaneous and not part of the original set list. Here's a review; the setlist is at the bottom of the article.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Sep 14, 2011 -> 10:22 AM) I agree. As a proud (ha) DePaul Law grad I win! UST is the defending NCAA Basketball champs...in DIII. Seriously though, I'm glad I went to a "well known" sports school for undergrad (discounting any jokes about IU's irrelevancy the past few years in basketball, and as for football...well, at least we can say we're in the Big Ten, ha!); it makes it way easier going to a law school that's part of a DIII-athletics university. -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 14, 2011 -> 07:09 PM) It was more like "i wasnt thinking" instead of forgot. I've spent alot of time at the fieldhouse over there admiring the old jerseys and whatnot and my brain went the other direction. Is that the one they turned into dorms? Or is it still there? In any case, if DePaul could somehow build an arena in Lincoln Park (I realize the property alone would be ridiculously expensive), they'd be in a much better position. Way way way way better atmosphere than...Rosemont. I mean, even splitting the Gentile Center with Loyola (no idea if that's even an option) would be a better choice. -
Does anyone know of a good article describing new shows coming out this year? I want to try out some new stuff. A few of my shows just ended, and I only have two coming back (Criminal Minds and Boardwalk Empire). Cannot WAIT for Boardwalk Empire. That and Shameless were fare away the two best shows I watched last year.

Truth. Drama was the only redeeming part of the finale. This entire season was pointless. Seriously. It was awful. I thought 7 was bad, but at least that was mostly amusing and had some semblance of a storyline. They should have ended after Season 5.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Sep 13, 2011 -> 05:23 PM) I'd go with closing business tax loopholes and increasing taxes on those that make 250k/500k (ind/couple). The revenue gained from that would find a massive 2-4 year tax relief/incentive program for small to mid-size businesses (say under 10k employees) and business that hire new employees. I agree with that one. I would focus a lot (a LOT) on increasing spending on high-speed rail. It's a solution that ties into many other problems as well (Carbon Emissions, perhaps) I'd scrap the "War on Drugs." It was a terrible failure, and any perpetuation of it is laughable. Seriously, start from the beginning on this one. Redefine what is/isn't illegal, in what ways they're enforced, in what ways they're "punished" (i.e. a much greater focus on rehabilitation instead of prison time). I think starting from the top would allow quite a bit in costs to be trimmed from the budget (not even mentioning more equitable laws). In a similar vein, I'd completely rethink the way Defense is funded/budgeted, starting with a very basic question: Both in the present and moving forward into the future, how do we (the Government) best protect our citizens and our country? And I mean honestly, REALLY look at that question. Because I think the current method is way too bloated. Defense spending is absurdly high, but it can only be lowered if there's an entirely new methodology behind allocating it. I'd also find a way to increase education funding across the board, but also to trade/vocational schools. Not everyone needs, nor wants, a college education; yet a vast amount of those people might greatly benefit/yearn for better access to legitimate trade schools. Admittedly, my points on transportation and education funding would also require a decently-sized shift in the American way of thinking (moreso in regards to rail than education).

This sentence amuses me: "I don’t think any Republican candidate should be engaged in the same kind of demagoguery, the same kind of negative political attacks we would expect to see from the Democratic Party,” Jindal said when asked about Romney’s Social Security offensive."

I guess I never followed the case close enough to understand the role Kelly played in keeping him out there. I was under the impression that he never actively said "Get up there or you're fired" or anything along those lines, and it was more of an assistant worried about upsetting the boss that led them to keep him on the scissor lift. -

QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 11, 2011 -> 04:15 PM) I did not see the Ravens curb-stomping the Steelers. I figured that'd be a close game. I have two quarterbacks on my roster, and they both played in that game. Unfortunately for me, I started the wrong one. Seriously, Roethlisberger had more tackles (2) than TDs (1). Never had that happen to me before. -
Man, I get busy for a few days and miss all the fun!

What's really weird to think about is that Kennedy barely had any more time in office than Obama has had.

Dammit Balta, you beat me to it. There's another video of him doing I Gotta Feeling

But I'm not sure if those will go in too far -- the shower is on the other side of this wall, and when the screws stop, it's like they're hitting different material that's not letting them go further.

QUOTE (danman31 @ Sep 4, 2011 -> 06:22 PM) I'm not really a believer in Kevin Wilson, but that's me. It was a good hire on paper, but that doesn't mean he will succeed at IU. My first thought was that I wanted a defensive minded guy, because that's always been IU's weakness. That said, he's done a lot of stuff right in terms of upping the strength and conditioning program and whatnot. I'm not saying he will succeed, but I think he's taken the right steps early on, and if he is to succeed, he must be given time. -

Yeah, that was same-old same-old for IU last night. Solid offense, no defense whatsoever. Having Darius Johnson out really really hurt. Do I expect IU to make a bowl game this year? Hell no. I'm thinking 4-8, 5-7. My general thoughts all along have been a lesser bowl starting in Wilson's third year (2013). That said...losing to Ball State hurts. Everyone knows (or should know) it's going to take awhile to turn this thing around, and this one game doesn't change that for me. Wilson has never been a Head Coach before (unless you count 1 year at a North Carolina high school), and he and his staff are going to have growing pains. Basically, I expected a 3-1 finish in nonconference, and 1-7 or 2-6 in conference. However, I thought the one loss would be to North Texas or Virginia. This team and coaching staff has had zero game results to go in, and that's tough. The interesting part will be to see how they react and what changes they make. Oh, and to Rock's comment about the radio show...Wilson never claimed he was going to walk in and bring us straight Pasadena. He and the entire coaching staff have been rightly saying it's going be a process. However, part of that process is changing that pushover identity, and that includes not allowing yourself to be treated as a doormat by radio hosts thinking you should be bowing down for having you on their show. That said, Wilson knows that the best (and in the end, only) way to change that "loser" and "pushover" mentality is to win. But again, that's going to take time. It was actually interesting to see how different that team looked from last year. Should IU have beaten Ball State? Most definitely. But in some ways, I could see the positive ways that the team had changed from Lynch's tenure. The ways I couldn't see that were scary -- mostly in everything related to the defense. Greg Heban still looks good though...I liked him from the moment he started playing last year. Really, really like him. He and the rest of the secondary were screwed since Wenning had so much time to throw. -
I quite liked this article: http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/news/20...tm_campaign=rss It echoed/implied a lot of my thoughts on how scary it is many in this country (and yes, many seem to vote Republican, but that is probably a correlation, not a causation) seem to be turned off by intelligence, and that's a factor in their voting.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 2, 2011 -> 08:09 PM) Studfinder time! Yeah, I think so...but they're...oddly located, it seems. I have a studfinder, and according to the directions I'm using it correctly. I'll double check to make sure I'm entirely on a stud. I'll check again tomorrow, I got way too frustrated with it today.

Ok, so I'm trying to put my (roughly 15 lb) dart board on the wall. My apartment's walls are all drywall. Screws don't like going on drywall. I've tried command hooks, I've tried those little thingies you hammer into the wall and then put the screw into that, but NO! Nothing works! WHAT DO I DO?!

I'm trying to figure out if I get ESPN3 through xfinity or comcast ondemand or whatever to watch the IU game Saturday night. Anyone have an idea?
