QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 10, 2014 -> 06:08 PM) I only read about one surgery. Even so, once the ligament is replaced it is stronger than the original, so theoretically less likely to happen again. Of course, it could. Rodon has all the earmarks of possible arm trouble. Over use prior to the pros, high velocity thrower, reliance on breaking pitches. All of these may lead to injury. He may also be able to handle it. All in all, I would not say that either will have a greater chance for injury. I had thought this was one of those common myths. Usually there is that period before the surgery where the arm is getting weaker but it's not as noticeable, so after the surgery the pitcher is back to what he actually was, even if he seems stronger.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 10, 2014 -> 08:33 AM) Seems to me that if you use it in an aggressive fashion, randomly going up to strangers and spraying it in their face, it would be considered a weapon and act of violence, but if someone were to attack you and you used it against them, it's a matter of self-defense. Again, we want more of it, but less of it, which is where the conundrum lies. I think this is correct. Typically the law looks at "deadly weapons" contextually. Take a screwdriver. It has a perfectly legitimate intended purpose most of the time. But you could still kill someone with it, and in those instances it would be a "deadly weapon."

At first I was abstractly confused how a school shooting thread had about 80% posts discussing the definition of "religion." Then I remembered that there's been so many shootings recently that of course it was going to evolve into something else, because talking about the shootings in general has been done too many times already. Sad day.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Jun 8, 2014 -> 12:32 PM) Micah Johnson rejoins Charlotte. Michael Johnson sent to Birmingham. Definitely read that Michael Jordan for a second.

How recent is his TJ surgery? I'm curious as to the difference (if any) between undergoing rehab with a pro team rather than a college. EDIT: Saw he had surgery in Spring 2013, so that probably wouldn't be a factor anymore.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 06:35 PM) Man, Schwarber looks like he's gonna be a really fat dude whenever he stops playing baseball. He does look like the guy that will just crank 'em to right and then be chugging a Coors Light while standing on 2nd. But man can he hit! I'm gonna miss watching him. In the Regional he was an automatic extra base hit. -
QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Jun 3, 2014 -> 06:06 AM) The Silicon Valley finale was great. The group trying to figure out how Erlich could jerk off 800 guys in 10 minutes might have been one of the funniest things I've seen. Yeah that was pretty solid. Just the inspiration Richard needed.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 3, 2014 -> 08:20 AM) Would "being left in a Taliban prison" be being held accountable for it? He was referring to Obama, not Bergdahl. He was responding Brian's comment about the last 5 presidents. EDIT: I see the confusion now. In Alpha's post, the first "he" was for Obama, the second "he" was for Bergdahl.

Started TURN this week, that Revolutionary War drama on AMC that started in April. Not bad.

Saw Motion City Soundtrack in a 270-person school auditorium last week, they did an acoustic version of I Am the Movie straight through. It was the most enjoyable show I've ever been to, just because it was so intimate and there was so much banter and interaction.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 17, 2014 -> 02:38 PM) Michigan takes anyone who qualifies with the NCAA, the days of them having a different standard ended two decades ago. Right, but I was referring to the degree to which those schools have to lower their standards. The hardest schools to get into as a normal applicant in the Big Ten are Northwestern and Michigan (out-of-state). -
QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ May 17, 2014 -> 09:30 AM) rounds 6-to-10 Dustin DeMuth, left-handed hitting third baseman at Indiana. Has reached base in all but two games this season. stellar glove a senior so he won't go super high and he angered some scouts last season because the Twins took him in sixth round and he didn't sign. but he's worth a shot. In Thursday night's game he snapped a 45-game streak of reaching base. Minnesota has pitched the Schwarber/Travis/DeMuth trio well in this series, they haven't done much so far. I was kinda surprised DeMuth didn't sign last year, but it was the 8th round, which can be borderline for some.

QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ May 16, 2014 -> 08:42 PM) Like I said, it's relative. I've talked with former players, and my impression is they'll take basically any decent student for football. However, a guy with a 3.0 GPA and a 1000 SAT would still be significantly below their normal standards, but that's got to be at least in the top third for college football players. NU supposedly rejected a good recruit (4-star on Rivals) that had like a 2.8 GPA and a 18 on his ACT. That's enough to get into most D-1 schools as a normal student much less as an athlete. Yeah, I agree with this. Northwestern has to lower its standards more than any other Big Ten school (though getting into Norhwestern and Michigan out of state aren't too far apart), but there are still probably some guys it won't take that others in the conference would. -

I generally assumed that it's slightly more difficult to qualify at Northwestern, but not by much. Or maybe they take fewer chances on borderline guys. -

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ May 16, 2014 -> 08:19 AM) Nobody in South Bend will be able to see it. Entire downtown power grid was shutdown overnight due to an underground fire and isn't expected to be back up until Sunday. And it's graduation weekend. So is the Notre Dame campus without power too, or is that out of the affected area?

QUOTE (bmags @ May 15, 2014 -> 03:37 PM) I think I read it's sunday at 3pm regardless. 2 pm central regardless. If LA wins it's in Chicago, if Anaheim wins it's out there.

Micah Johnson, Nelvin Fuentes to Charlotte
farmteam replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 14, 2014 -> 09:00 AM) I honestly didn't know who Nelvin Fuentes was. He was a minor league free agent who I had absolutely no expectations for. Seems the Sox like him, which means I'll be paying more attention to him moving forward. I just like his first time. If he can actually play, it's a bonus! -
Corey Crawford.

Man I hope Aiken falls to 3. And I'm in the minority on this (I think), but I wouldn't have a problem with taking a chance on Alex Jackson if Aiken is gone.

I just don't want to see Keppinger back on the Southside. He's been nothing short of brutal with the White Sox. I was waiting to see on Micah given his poor finish to the regular season last year, but he's been great. -

QUOTE (raBBit @ May 13, 2014 -> 04:48 PM) Not to be impudent, but does anyone put any weight into what Harold Reynolds says? I swear the guy does no prep work for his shows and it seems like he barely keeps up with baseball at all. I know he's a buffoon but for some reason I still like listening to him. He does same pretty stupid stuff. -
QUOTE (cws0591 @ May 12, 2014 -> 04:29 PM) What law school did you go to? St. Thomas, in Minneapolis.
