QUOTE (Tony @ Apr 5, 2016 -> 09:42 PM) Everything looks better when you are winning, but with so many new guys in the fold, I really like the attitude I'm seeing. me too...haven't seen that in the dugout for a while. love it.

QUOTE (Louis Penna @ Mar 29, 2016 -> 05:10 PM) I definitely get this line of thinking, and I agree to a point, but what has Ishikawa done to earn the spot? At least Davidson was once a top prospect. Given the alternatives of Sands and Ishikawa, I'd go Davidson every time. I don't know...dude's been there...done that and has proven he's a very viable bench player IMO. He's even led his team to a WS back in 14...what's Davidson done besides have a good spring? I said this in the "LaRoach Replacement" thread that got glossed over...Ishikawa fits the bill to a tee. I really don't want somebody "who kinda plays 1B"...or "can" every once in a while over there. If he flops...sure...make a roster move but at this point the guy has earned a spot here and fills a need. There really shouldn't be any argument whatsoever about Ishikawa making the roster. Davidson AND Sanchez need to prove themselves more than just a good spring...

QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Mar 29, 2016 -> 11:35 AM) Sure sucks for Davidson and C. Sanchez. Both had great springs. Just no room for them. While it does suck...you can tell both these guys really put the work in this off season...and it's not a bad problem to have if you have to send guys down that had the Springs they had. And on the plus side...they'll get consistent at bats instead of minimal PT.

QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 22, 2016 -> 07:14 PM) If Eaton is growing out his beard as some type of silent protest about LaRoche, that would be extremely douchey. and not a shocker...
-
Too bad for him. I would have taken his bat...but really wanted no part of that contract whatsoever. He really didn't seem like a viable option in that regard IMO....
-
One thing I have noticed this spring...I absolutely LOVE what Jimmy Rollins brings to this team! Not only what he's done at the plate so far...but just his presence on the field. You can tell he's the QB on the infield by a long shot. Miss a cut off or throw to the wrong base...he'll let whoever the culprit is know about it an what's expected.
-
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 22, 2016 -> 05:18 PM) In the first start of the spring. I think he's fine. Agreed. Plus being his first start I was surprised Robin let him throw that many innings...

March 21 spring training games thread
Wanne replied to southsider2k5's topic in 2016 Season in Review
There were some ridiculously great defensive plays in this game today. Abreu made some outstanding plays...probably at least 3 great snags. Frazier made a great play. Austin Jackson with an outstanding grab at the wall. Sands with a circus catch. Sanchez made a couple...one really great play. Jacob May's catch was just sick. Just a very impressive day throwing the leather around today for the Sox. -
Who do you believe is MOST guilty in the Laroche situation?

Where's the "Whoever agreed to this s***ty signing in the first place" button? It'll blow over. Good opportunity to finally be rid of Kenny tho (who nobody knows what he actually does anyway)...but not a good way to start a promising season. -
QUOTE (JoeCredeYes @ Mar 11, 2016 -> 06:10 PM) Hopefully Brett rectifies the pronunciation of his name to conform with the English language instead of going around and correcting everybody his entire life. meh...I like to pronounce it like Martin Lawrence calls his partner in the first Bad Boys...Brett "LOWWWREY"..I don't give a s*** how anybody else pronounces it.
-
I don't...my initial reaction says his stance is just a bit more open giving him a little better look instead of so much "side eye" as I like to call it....which usually helps with pitch recognition. I'll have to go back and look at other vid

Latos throws a pitch nobody else has ever thrown

whatever it is...it's pretty sick. -
Even tho I don't live there anymore...a lot would depend where they moved to. Who knows...hard to say at this point. Do people in St Louis still follow the AZ Cardinals? I'd still probably follow and be a fan since it's the team I know best. I still haven't "embraced" the Dbacks...and I live here. I think a lot has to do with just not being a fan of the National League for some reason. I might end up following one of the AL teams that play out here for spring training...who knows. I do like the Padres for some reason tho...I think it's my soft spot for the city of San Diego. I know the "purists" want to keep it the way it is...but it's about time the NL adopts the DH. That would sway my mind a little I think.

QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 08:33 PM) That's an extremely unfair comparison for Thompson. He had 122 at bats, had a slash line of .295/.366/.533/.896 w/ 5 HRs and great defense. Let's give him a real chance & see what he has. this. this team is so devoid of talent....and you want to trade a home grown one?!? Geezus. Nobody's going to "trade high" on him. He's one of those guys you steal...not trade high with.
-
Seriously...wtf is Hahn doing? Obviously with this trade Q isn't even on the market. Not sure what Plan A B or C is...I honestly doubt they have one. I could see this trade for Q...but Shelby Miller!?!? I'm seriously pissed about this...
-
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 8, 2015 -> 08:35 PM) Swanson and Inciarte is an overpay for Miller IMO. Yeah...for as hard as I try to be a Dbag fan since I live out here...I just can't. Dumping Swanson really pisses me off....AND Inciarte?!?!?! Geezus. I can't even begin to fathom what Sale would bring for crap sakes. Yeah...I hope Q's name is dangling out there...good lord.
-
Well...it is who originally drafted him and where he originally came up from. He came over in the Javie deal didn't he?...
-
I agree with Balta...EFF Puig! Not worth the hassle...or image problem. So you guys would want Ray Rice on the Bears too?!?

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Dec 5, 2015 -> 06:17 PM) The Dodgers aren't missing the playoffs. And Pederson was a huge part of that last year. Seager will be this year. And they are looking at Zobrist as well. Aaaaand not having a 19-3 Greinke in the rotation means nothing? That rotation (sans Kershaw) isn't all that great. Don't be shocked with what they'd give up for a pitcher like Sale...not to mention the contract that he has. To sit there and definitively say "ain't happening" really is condescending since you're not part of the Dodgers ownership group. Don't underestimate what SF moves would make them do either...
-
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Dec 5, 2015 -> 12:01 AM) Why does it scare you? He's not at any more of a risk than the stud pitchers who have suffered them (Harvey, Fernandez, etc.) Not sure...just his overall motion which some have mentioned. I know many have suffered it..but the point is capitalize BEFORE it happens. Who knows...for his sake I hope it never does. At this point I think I'd rather take a huge haul in return.
-
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Dec 4, 2015 -> 09:15 PM) Exactly. We're not moving Sale unless it's a ridiculous offer. Like if LAD wanted him: Joc Pederson, Corey Seager, Julio Urias and DeLeon type of package. this...and by A LOT! LAD are desperate right now I'd imagine given the DBags signing Greinke...who knows. But I'd definitely be inclined to deal Sale for an overwhelming blockbuster to the Dodgers or Cubs. Sale's elbow just scares the s*** outta me and if you get the chance to get a HAUL for him right now...you do it IMO. I realize he's a once in a generation-type lefty pitcher...but good lord...it's the Sox luck his ulnar gives. Not trying to throw bad vibes...just being practical.

QUOTE (oldsox @ Nov 1, 2015 -> 08:19 AM) Re: Puig. I think Mattingly was fed up with him. New Manager might feel differently. unless that new manager ended up being Kirk Gibson for some strange reason. I'd pay to see that inevitable brawl...
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 11, 2015 -> 10:28 AM) He actually had 2 years left on his contract. I don't think he was a place holder. Whatever it is, the Cubs and the almighty Theo, thought he was good enough for their young players as the manager. As a bench coach, no one should have a problem with this hire. So the Cubs are still actually paying him this year then?...correct? Savvy move lol... I like the hire actually...
