QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Oct 23, 2015 -> 03:47 PM) Lmao, you guys want Papelbon? He's literally the only player in baseball who I don't want on this team purely due to his clubhouse presence. The guy is a cancer. I think assh0le is a better term for him...most punchable face in sports IMO.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 12:00 PM) I wish I could have watched Dick Allen play. ' To this day still my all time favorite Sox player to watch....bar none. He was absolutely amazing. There was really nothing the guy couldn't do....and some of the HRs would hit...good lord. He hit one that was at the base of the scoreboard in CF against the O's I believe...and a line drive at that. We were in RF that day. And of course the 3 run-pinch hit hr off Sparky Lyle in the 9th was still the best I've ever seen in person. That was a great link Lip...thanks.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 16, 2015 -> 10:09 PM) Thompson just hasn't earned that amount of street cred yet. understandable. trying to figure out who else is "sponge-worthy"?...

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 16, 2015 -> 10:47 AM) Wanne...just saw the one you made. That one is cool too. I'll leave it to a vote. Which one does everyone want? The other can get used in a few months. thank Chi...I can put whoever you guys decide you want in there. I decided on Trayce for the youth aspect..and the fact he had a black uni on. It's kinda what I do...so whoever you homefries want...lemme know.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Oct 15, 2015 -> 05:29 PM) Thompson? Come on, he's a utility outfielder the picture is great, but he just doesn't belong I'm catapulting his career!

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 10:21 AM) If you get a guy closer to the big leagues who has already done something in the minors...that to me is better than the value of the comp pick. At least you've seen him outside of high school/college. I agree with shipps...I can't see getting very much value back. I'd stick with the pick...

QUOTE (Real @ Aug 28, 2015 -> 02:13 PM) KW goes to Seattle but still works for the Sox in a supervisory role. hahahaaaa....this.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 1, 2015 -> 11:39 AM) Then they needed to add a bat. Even a decent bat. No discussion, no debate. They needed to add a bat. Pick up Valencia and problem solved. Not the optimum bat...but pretty decent. Could be a win win....

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 1, 2015 -> 09:39 AM) I still say a comp pick is a pretty rotten return for the player. A comp pick is, to me, a guy with about a 50% chance of being in the big leagues 4-5 years later and 10% chance of being an all-star within 7-8. The White Sox gave up 4 guys who were on the verge of being big league hitters and will get 1 guy who has probably a 60% chance of reaching that level in return. Yes there's some additional flexibility in there where you can move money around, so that's not perfect, but basically the White Sox gave up 4 guys and will get 1 guy with a 60% chance of getting to the point where any of those 4 guys got, and a bit more flexiblity to move money around. If they couldn't get an easily better return than that, then the league respects Samardzija less than I do and they think he's about to fall completely apart. I'm not saying I agree with overvaluing the comp pick...I think the Sox might. But again we have no clue what was even remotely offered for him. I will say this tho...I value it more now than I do say 5 or 6 years ago! The Sox have been plucking some great talent with their first 3 picks the last few years. Mostly tho...the Sox probably believe they still have a chance at a wild card spot and didn't think Shark's slot in the rotation could even remotely be replaced is the bottom line IMO.
-
Yes please! Offensively he's better than anything on the infield (sans Abreu)...that would be a phenomenal pickup IMO.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 02:13 PM) If they don't resign him, a comp pick is valuable in this day and age, just for the bonus room alone. true....and the Sox must value that comp pick more than any trade package they were offered. I know that's pure speculation...but it would be interesting to see the type of packages that were offered. I told my dad this would happen a month ago...a little mini streak and they'd stand pat...and then lose 8 out of 10 after the deadline.

QUOTE (BigFinn @ Jul 15, 2015 -> 10:19 AM) The Max Pentecost discussion arises from the fact that the Sox have no catching depth in their system. There are only a handful of real catching prospects available now, and Pentecost is highly rated and possibly available in trade. Texas has MLB pipeline's #1 catching prospect, Jorge Alfaro. But after Texas' recent skid, I don't think they are going to go off the deep end for the Shark. The Cub has Schwarber (MLB Pipeline #2), and he's not going anywhere. Tampa Bay has Justin O'Conner (#3), and Tampa Bay isn't going to sell their future for a 3-month rental. Same for Pittsburgh and Reese McGuire (#4). Hence Toronto and Max Pentecost. The Yankees have Gary Sanchez (#6), but MLB Pipeline suggests that he may need an attitude adjustment. Colorado isn't buying; they're selling, so Tom Murphy (#7) won't be available. Washington doesn't need pitching, so #8 catching prospect Jackson Reetz will continue to hone his skills in short-season Auburn. #9 Austin Barnes in the Dodgers organization is intriguing, and he may be available in a trade. #10 Chase Vallot plays in the Kansas City system, and I don't think Samardzija is going there in a trade. There are other catchers out there, Andrew Susac from the Giants could be a possibility. He's temporarily blocked by Buster Posey. But the Giants have been giving Posey playing time at 1B, and giving Susac playing time with the big league club. So a trade with San Francisco might not be possible. That leaves trades with Toronto for Hoffman and Pentecost, the Yankees for Sanchez and Jagilelo, or the Dodgers for Barnes and fill-in-the-blank if the White Sox want to get a catching prospect included in a return package for Samardzija. Great post. As for Sanchez...I think that attitude adjustment has more to do with a need for a change of scenery. Seems he's been a top prospect forever always waiting behind somebody the Yankees bring in...

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 26, 2015 -> 10:44 AM) I am stunned the Titans ended up hosting their regional and getting the top seed in their regional. Had a strong finish (similar to last year). Hopefully unlike last year, they can keep riding their hot streak to a title!!! yeah...as of a month ago I thought there was no way in hell they'd even make the post season. Now one of the hottest teams. Play ASU today with Lilek on the hill. We'll see which Lilek shows up today and if the ASU bats can carry their late inning mo over from yesterday.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ May 25, 2015 -> 04:16 PM) Who had the genius idea of giving Toronto a home game on memorial day? lol...it's honoring the French-Indian War I guess.

Not sure about this as a mid-season addition...but who knows...what do you guys think about kicking the tires on Wieters? I know he's a FA..a coming off TJ surgery...and Boras is his agent and all...but he's got some good years left if his TJ went well. From what I've gathered the Orioles are happy with Joseph as their starter...and they have a slew of FAs they need to address. My head's just in catcher mode right now. Roll the dice on Wieters? Others available?

27 wins in a row now for the Illini after winning their opening game of the BIG Tourney. That is just a ridiculous streak! If the Sox won 27 games in a row this site would be a f***ing orgy....

QUOTE (raBBit @ May 13, 2015 -> 08:43 PM) Addison Reed came in for the three run save, gave up a couple singles, a walk and the grand slam. Chip Hale has seen enough...he's out of the closer role.
