  1. Our glut of pitching should yield a major league hitter at some point. Axelrod should be worth a 1 WAR hitter
  2. 2005 White Sox is the model. You dump some pieces if you think the return makes you better, but not every piece. No use in being bad.
  3. linky It's worth reading all the way through. Basically, a tear down doesn't offer enough benefit -- especially when our pitching is basically elite.
  4. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 13, 2013 -> 04:56 PM) That there's American League power. There's a fair amount of power there, but that's about it. Not much speed, no on base ability, no good average bats...
  5. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 13, 2013 -> 01:54 PM) BRING HIM BACK But really. We need another lefty, yes?
  6. Stephen A. Smith talking courtside about how Derrick Rose is hurt...Derrick is seen shooting threes RIGHT behind Stephen A.
  7. My column for today, Defensive Miscues Costing Chicago White Sox The gist: -We aren't playing so badly as the errors suggest -This team does not have a track record of making errors, which suggests something has changed -Errors are preventable via coaching, focus -Coaching must be held accountable until and unless the errors cease
  8. I bet he was able to work on approach type stuff in the film room with Manto while he was out. It can help when you get to work on the theory side of approach without having to go out there and reinforce your bad habits before you totally grasp it. Dayan knows that he is one of the few threats actually taken seriously in the lineup right now, so there's no reason to play the pitchers' game and swing at pitches out of the zone.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 11, 2013 -> 09:34 PM) In additon to his lack of devopment, he also reccommendef Teahen and Keppinger. It is alright to be wrong occassionally, everyone is. He just is never right. Better that than be the guy that recommended Dunn or Danks

    2013 TV Thread

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ May 10, 2013 -> 11:58 PM) I realize a lot of people have trailed off on watching The Office, but still sad to see it coming to an end next week. Thursday's episode was really, really fantastic QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 13, 2013 -> 08:46 AM) Am I the only one here who watches Veep? Such a good show. I'm surprised I never see anyone mention it in this thread. I've really been meaning to get going on this. Might be good post-surgery time wasting...
  11. I like how the media is ripping him to shreds for it. He's not making excuses, he's pointing out the obvious. It's not like he goes to the locker room and says "we're f***ed, the refs are out to get us so we're not going to try"
  12. If they traded Upton, they would want minor league parts or pitching back. They're trying to make room for Gattis, not have an old fat guy taking Gattis' at bats
  13. QUOTE (Knuckles @ May 11, 2013 -> 10:20 PM) Have all you pretty much moved on from laptops onto tablets? My laptop is on its last breath and I'm looking to replace it soon? Kind of scared to give up the keyboard. I mostly use it for browsing, forums, streaming video, but occasionally I'd like to type up a email or two etc. Recommendations ? I have an ASUS Transformer, absolutely love it. Has a native keyboard attachment that boosts the battery to 15 hours. It isn't a perfect replacement for a laptop, but I often use it instead of my laptop. When I'm going to do more serious word processing or multitasking I obviously prefer a laptop, but it's a pretty awesome toy.
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ May 11, 2013 -> 09:05 PM) Goodness Viciedo looks incredible I may put this in my signature Maybe change the poster name to Marty34
  15. Is it just my TV or did Dayan gain 100 pounds while he was on the DL?

IIRC, he has presided over us going from worst to not quite the worst. We're trending upward.
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ May 11, 2013 -> 02:18 PM) I'd love to see Ventura shake things up a bit. I understand not making moves in order to show poise and not trying to panic, but with the collapse last year continuing into this season, why not have fun and try something like this lineup: Gillaspie Rios De Aza Konerko Viciedo Dunn Ramirez Keppinger Flowers If De Aza is going to act like a power hitter at the plate, why not try to get him up to bat with people on base? Who knows, maybe he'll turn into a 25 home run a year player. Just for the fun of it, if we were trying to tweak I'd take your lineup and make it more like this: Gillaspie Ramirez De Aza Rios Konerko Viciedo Dunn Flowers Keppinger
  18. I would only trade Alexei for good, young MLB player(s). You would fill one of your positions of need with the return on an Alexei trade, if you were to do that.
  19. I would link my latest column about what a great move it was not to sign Buehrle, but I don't think a soul on this forum would disagree with it. You'd be shocked how many angry emails I've gotten though
  20. FWIW, if I was doing an Astros-style teardown, I would be playing Jordan Danks every day in CF. I would never ever do an Astros-style rebuild though. That's stupid.
  21. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 11, 2013 -> 09:20 AM) I said before the series started, the bulls won't win but this is not the team that the Heat wanted to see. That hasn't changed The crazy thing is that with the way we're playing, it really looks like we could just be a Luol plus maybe a Kirk away from being a serious contender in this series.
  22. Thibs is going to lose some money after his post-game presser
  23. The bad calls hurt us, but we can still overcome it by avoiding bad fouls. Too many off the ball and/or far away from the basket fouls. Even if they were called a little too closely, they were zero payoff plays in the first place. We can't have them in the bonus for the last 8 minutes of the game and constantly be paranoid about guys in foul trouble.
