  1. QUOTE (WCSox @ Sep 30, 2011 -> 03:49 PM) If I'm Francona or LaRussa and the Sox are my only option, I'd probably sit out a year and wait for something better to come along. It's not like either will struggle to pay the bills in the meantime. I haven't talked to him, but I doubt LaRussa manages any team other than STL or SOX.
  2. Here it is. http://img812.imageshack.us/img812/199/payroll.jpg I believe the last update was the Thornton extension.
  3. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 01:42 PM) I know, I'm trying to explain his logic even though I've pointed Alexei was the opening day CF like 193891 times. I see, wasn't sure what you meant by that.
  4. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 01:34 PM) CF = LF? Oh, and I smiled seeing Dave Martinez on TV last night. He is obviously qualified for the job now. Alexei Ramirez was the opening day CF for the White Sox in 2008.
  5. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 01:24 PM) Kenny traded for Swisher to play CF. Another mistake in talent evaluation on his part. I wonder why he was playing LF opening day.
  6. When did Francona become Tito?
  7. QUOTE (Wanne @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 12:51 PM) they were spawned by Satin himself... They are soft and shiny.
  8. I have heard that the Marlins are looking to sign a big name player to generate some interest this off season. I wonder if they go after Pujols.
  9. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 10:49 AM) That's awesome. Did she stay at the Phantom Ranch overnight? Yeah, I think 2 nights. She is insisting we do it together next year.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 11:07 AM) ChuckGarfien Chuck Garfien Mark Buehrle wasn't only White Sox best pitcher this year, he was also their best hitter. He batted .500. (1 for 2) He struck out at a higher rate than Dunn!
  11. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 09:38 AM) Just want to interject this... Do NOT take the Bright Angel trail lightly. More people need rescue from that trail than any other in the country. This is for two reasons. One, the Grand Canyon attracts all manner of people not really in shape for a serious hike. And two, unlike a mountain trail, a deep canyon trail goes down first and then up... this is bad because it's easy going down (except for the knee pain), so people just keep going and going, then they have to hike back up. That is when they realize they are in over their head (either due to not being in shape, not leaving enough time, not having food and water, etc.). It's a great trail, but be prepared for it. My wife hiked down to Phantom Ranch this summer. She did a ton of research and carried 13 lbs. of water, electrolytes, carby snacks, etc. with her. She encountered several people who had no idea where or if water was available on the trail and people who intended to hike down and back up in the same day. This was in late July when temperatures at the bottom of the canyon were well over 100 degrees.
  12. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 07:25 PM) If you get a chance in life, go to the Grand Canyon. It's just so incredible. It really is. Did you hike down?
  13. Bernie Miklasz, a St. Louis radio guy was speculating that LaRussa may have interest in managing the Sox for a year or two before moving into the front office. He says that LaRussa has stated that he eventually wants a higher up position. Not sure how likely it is, but with the JR & TLR relationship it is certainly plausible. Although I did read somewhere that both KW & TLR do not want to work with the other.
  14. QUOTE (spiderman @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 12:16 PM) Why is Buddy Bell even a candidate? Is he doing a good job with the minor league talent? QUOTE (spiderman @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 12:17 PM) If the White Sox are looking to move fast, it's not going to be La Russa. Supposedly Bell has no interest in returning to managing. I also heard that both KW & LaRussa do not want to work with the other, so I don't think he's being considered. Can't remember where I saw/heard this, there is a ton of info getting thrown around right now.
  15. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 11:49 AM) Why? Have you heard anything about Walker being gone? Supposedly Cooper is the only coach staying.
  16. Cowley is going to be on WSCR shortly.
  17. Too bad it had to end like this. Thanks for the memories Ozzie.
  18. QUOTE (Lillian @ Sep 26, 2011 -> 12:16 PM) Isn't that the implied topic of this thread? Post #7 of this thread: QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 20, 2011 -> 09:33 AM) This thread will go exactly the same way any Walker thread does.
  19. QUOTE (Lillian @ Sep 26, 2011 -> 11:43 AM) Deja vu regarding what? The Greg Walker situation/debate.
  20. I just had the strangest feeling of deja du.
  21. QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 24, 2011 -> 08:30 PM) Verlander off the hook. Finishes his season 24-5, 2.40 ERA. 28/34 quality starts. 251 innings. 250 strikeouts. Pretty awesome season. If he had only faced Dunn one more time.
  22. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Sep 22, 2011 -> 03:49 PM) So far this season of the authentic Munich Big 6 Oktoberfestbiers, I have only had Paulaner (draft). As for the other Big 6 Hacker-Pschorr and Spaten have shown up locally so I need to get around to those; Löwenbräu typically only shows up in bottles, Hofbräuhaus hasn't come locally in a few years, and I don't think I have ever seen Augustinerbräu in teh states — a shame, because that is the favorite of the Münchners who know their bier. I also have had this year's Sam Adams Oktoberfest-style beer (bottle) and thought it was quite as good and malty as ever. Yeah, I only see two or maybe three of those German ones so I just get what I can. More craft and local breweries. There's about 6 small brewers within a few miles of my place so its a pretty good time to be a beer lover here.
  23. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 23, 2011 -> 11:54 AM) I would imagine that a 4-point jump in average is really, really difficult at this point in the season, especially when it's already that high. Probably near impossible. In 1941, Ted Williams raised his average 6 points on the last day of the season.
  24. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Sep 23, 2011 -> 11:00 PM) DeAngelo Hall is a man of the people. He's jammin' on the one.
