This Twins offense is a hell of a lot better than in year's past. I think they're setup just as well as the Rays in the playoffs, if not better.

Speaking of LHH who rake...Thome has a .959 OPS. For what he's given MIN and not given us, probably cost us the division.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 12, 2010 -> 01:55 PM) Vizquel did it for twice as long though. You have to marvel at the fact Omar was Omar for 17+ years.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 12, 2010 -> 01:20 PM) I could have sworn someone said he was throwing upwards of 100 MPH these days...that's why I brought his name back up, since he was in the Hudson category of being on quite a few lists as a Top 40-60 MILB prospect coming out around the time of the trade. That's correct. He's got a little Jenks in him. Checkered past, big arm. Still very relevant as a prospect.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 11, 2010 -> 08:51 AM) Anyway, all I'm saying is...if I'm giving up 6 years of a back of the rotation guy for 1.5 more expensive years of another guy...I think I'm fully justified in expecting that guy to legitimately be a dominant pitcher, and I'm going to call out if I don't get that. I don't know why you would be justified in expecting Jackson to be "dominant." The trade value of a dominant SP with a 1.5 years left would be way more than just Daniel Hudson. I think you are justified in expecting Jackson to be a nice upgrade, but expecting domination is ridiculous.

QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Aug 1, 2010 -> 08:00 PM) Hold your failure comments until after August 30th please. Why can't people understand this? They're going to get a bat, they have 1 month to do so. Relax people. People do understand this. People also understand that having a bat for 2 months and not just 1 would have been a smidge more helpful in the division race. We aren't the Yankees stocking up for the playoffs.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 05:47 PM) No one would want Berkman up until the last few weeks, as he had looked terrible at the plate. Especially considering the earlier the acquisition usually the higher the price.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 05:44 PM) Yeah, cause I said that, right? From what I can take out of this whole deadline is that KW wanted Dunn right from the beginning, and was going for Dunn or nothing. Once we fell out of the Dunn sweepstakes (I'm gonna guess it was yesterday afternoon after the Nats said they didn't want Jackson), that's when we heard about Berkman declining a trade here and today when we heard that we were going after Manny. Yeah. No doubt he was monitoring Berkman for a while, but I don't think he was going after Berkman until he had a good idea Dunn was out of the equation.

QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 03:28 PM) This may go down as one of the worst deadline deals of all time. I highly doubt that.

Great trade for the Pirates despite Lambo being a pothead. Perhaps Huntington's first good trade of his GM regime.
-
The Dodgers want a SP and acquired Podsednik. Hypothetically, there could be a match with them. Perhaps they want Jackson back?
-
The Dodgers reportedly had issues with Kemp's attitude earlier in the year. I see the Dodgers moving him before Ethier.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 12:25 PM) We keep saying how brilliant the Rangers are these days, but they traded away Danks, Chris Young (pitcher), Adrian Gonzalez...they've also dealt Armando Galarraga, Francisco Cordero and Edison Volquez, although Josh Hamilton is looking like the better part of that deal for now. KW hasn't made nearly that many mistakes with the most precious resource in the game, young pitching. The only starters you can argue that "got away" are Clayton Richard and Gio Gonzalez, and I bet 90% of the board would say trade for Peavy was the right move at the time, at that price...since you're pointing out Halladay, Lee and Oswalt as examples, certainly you agree with the acquisition of Peavy, yes? There's a significant difference. The Rangers' system actually produces Major League talent from within. I'm not going to give KW credit for not letting anything significant get away when there wasn't anything to get away in the first place. I give KW credit for maximizing what little he has to work with down there, however.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 28, 2010 -> 06:51 PM) My point is that it is easy to say that we have to pay up for a better system. The reality is that if you decide to do that, it means the movement go away from resources that go to the current team, into resources that potentially don't pay off for years, if ever. Yes and no. Sure Teahen over someone like Viciedo or a stopgap like Mora, Pierre over Podsednik, etc. were slight upgrades, but the actual impact of those upgrades is very small while being expensive. You have to weigh whether these small upgrades are more important that the ability to go out at the deadline and pick up a guy like Cliff Lee. Divisions are largely won at the deadline. For an organization that is led by a gun-slinging GM and has a hard stance on free agency, I'm shocked that millions have been poured into little upgrades instead of the system where LARGE upgrades can be obtained.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 28, 2010 -> 06:25 PM) You can't trade draft picks for a year after signing them. Yes I know that. But KW wouldn't have to be so hesitant in making a deal with our few good prospects. Our system can sustain one impact trade and then it's pretty much wiped out. It'd be a lot easier to justify a trade and still feel good about your future if you had a few more impact prospects.

QUOTE (MattZakrowski @ Jul 28, 2010 -> 06:07 PM) the players from the farm system you spent that money on. Or with the better system, perhaps go out and acquire someone with some actual talent other than settling for someone who all-around sucks.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 28, 2010 -> 05:19 PM) So which five million-ish dollar player on the roster would you not want to have this year to pay for the drafting of players and international signings? Mark Teahen or Scott Linebrink. Both?

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 23, 2010 -> 09:04 AM) If we sign a sniper like Mason, we will only have 1 garbage time player, and that's JJ. And if that's the case, then I'd like to use the last three roster spots on guys like Bouldin, Byars, and Alexander for garbage time with I'm going to assume JJ and Asik (though I think Asik will get regular minutes). First Team PG: Derrick Rose SG: Ronnie Brewer SF: Luol Deng PF: Carlos Boozer C: Joakim Noah Second Team PG: CJ Watson SG: [Free Agent Signing] SF: Kyle Korver PF: Taj Gibson C: Kurt Thomas Third Team PG: Matt Bouldin SG: Derrick Byars SF: James Johnson PF: Joe Alexander C: Omer Asik That is really some amazing depth there. This team is going to be gooooood and will only get better in the coming years. I'm pumped.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 20, 2010 -> 01:03 PM) Also from that last link: Thibs can fix him. I'd love to take a chance on McGrady.
-
It's pretty funny that Big Z is 26 for 62 from 3-pt range the last 2 years. He made a total of 5 3-pt FG his previous 10 years. I think he's pretty worthless for most teams, but he's massive so he fits with the Heat.

If there was any "slave master" in that situation, it was LeBron. He dictated everything that went on during his era in Cleveland. Jesse Jackson is a nitwit.

QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 01:48 PM) Offense isn't going to be the problem and we have one of the best defensive minds in the league for a coach and a beast of a defensive center I'm gonna love this team. I'm pumped too. We've got one terrific wing defender in Deng and one of the best lowpost defenders in Noah. The rest, besides Korver, can be average to above average defenders. I can't wait to see what Thib draws up.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 12:23 PM) Problem is that he regressed from what he was a few years ago so it's kind of hard to see him getting better. Well he's been injured the past 3 seasons. Wrist, leg, back, ankle. Everything. I think if he can remain healthy, we'll see some good improvement. He was playing pretty well before his injury in March. If he can't get healthy, then he is what he is.
-
QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 12:18 PM) He's also easily tradeable because he's only 21 and has tremendous offensive potential. Deng isn't anywhere near as easy to trade because he's overpaid and you know exactly what he is at this point, a guy that is at best the #3 scorer on a decent team. Deng has been a bit better so far, but it's far from a lock that he will be over the next 5 years or so. Deng just turned 25 a couple months ago. He's not a finished product.

Does anyone else think that a solid zone defense would give the Heat trio trouble? They'll be killer in transition, no doubt, but in the half court, how good can they possibly be?
