QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 13, 2010 -> 12:48 PM) The Sox have problems, but balance between offense and pitching isn't one. The team actually hit decently well in 2010, though it would have been a lot better with a real DH (and that was not a money decision anyway). Also, I'd be willing to bet that the Sox are going to trade one of those starters and replace him with Sale, saving some number of millions. I don't know what offense you are looking at. The Sox put up middle of the pack AL numbers in one of MLB's best offensive parks. And that was with Pauly going Pujols-like. Now he may or may not be back. The 2010 version, at least, probably won't be. The Sox are in desperate need of some bats.

It's not a problem having roughly 50-55% of payroll (~$50-52mil) already tied up into a rotation on a team still needing a CL, C, 1B, DH, and an arm or two in the pen? Yes, SP is most influential, but that doesn't mean you should sign 5 Sabathia's and go with 9 Lillibridges and 6 Torres'. Balance is necessary, and the Sox have none. EDITED- damn computer

Kenny's obsession with having the best rotation in the history of baseball is killing this franchise. It's a sexy concept, but really just unnecessary.

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Oct 12, 2010 -> 08:37 PM) Gio is at best a #4 pitcher(it saddens me to say that since I was a huge fan of his). Well become a fan again. 200.2 IP, 15-9, 3.23 ERA, 171 K, .229 BAA. At best, #4? WTF? And you can't sit behind the NL argument with this one.

QUOTE (T R U @ Oct 12, 2010 -> 08:48 PM) it doesn't matter those raises aren't going to completely take over all that money that comes off the books.. KW will not let AJ, Konerko, and Jenks go and not do something with that money.. its just not going to happen.. especially when you consider they have been crying poor for years and you still see acquisitions like Rios (his ENTIRE contract).. Manny.. they were interested in Damon.. Don't believe anything they say about not having money, they will do something because they do every year even when they say they don't have the money.. You are right. They will do something. Pay arb raises and sign fillers. There's your something.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Oct 12, 2010 -> 03:29 PM) You mean 2001 when KW took over? And yeah, caulfield likes to remind us plenty that we're in the top 5 or so in games won since then. Only numbers that matter for me are 2/10. Our playoff ratio in a division that doesn't feature the Yankees or Red Sox. Technically he took over in 2000, but I'm in your boat. I don't look forward to the next 10 years of KW's reign.

If Danks is gone, I'm not so sure the Sox' rotation is the best on paper anyways.

NBA Predictions - (Predictabulls Part II)
sircaffey replied to knightni's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Bulls 52-20, get past Celtics or Magic in playoffs. Lose to Heat. Lakers win title. Kobe averages 38 in the Finals. -
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Oct 8, 2010 -> 03:46 AM) By this logic guys like Adrian Beltre and Jose Bautista are worth 20 million. I love the WAR stat. But no way in hell Crawford is worth 20 million. In addition, Crawford's high WAR number is largely due to his fantastic defense. That's fine and dandy, but the White Sox are absolutely starved for offense, and those are the numbers they should be most concerned with, especially if it costs 20% of your payroll.
-
QUOTE (knightni @ Oct 7, 2010 -> 11:03 PM) Is Crawford really worth $20 mil a year? Not at all. Personally, I think he's one of the more overrated "stars" in the game. And considering the Cell would eliminate some of the speed from his game, Dunn should be the Sox #1 target, imo.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Oct 7, 2010 -> 12:17 AM) I believe DePaul offers weekend and/or night classes, I could be confusing their schedule with NW's though. DePaul's part-time program is by far more flexible. They have morning, evening, and weekend classes for part-timers on top of the full-time program. It's a very customizable program.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Oct 6, 2010 -> 11:18 PM) You probably have to give up your fulltime job then, and that's pretty costly by itself. Yeah. I'm talking about if you want to go to school full-time. I am not sure if part-timers can get GA's. Probably not.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 6, 2010 -> 10:13 PM) My company just revoked it. They pay for pretty much any other degree except an MBA now. Still i think they only gave us 6k a year. Its f***ing expensive. I was looking at UIC, Depaul, etc and I just cannot fathom how to pay for it. I cannot get a student loan with a full time job at my income level and I cannot afford it on my income. Go to a school where you can get a graduate assistantship. I'm getting 66% of my tuition paid for in the first year, and if they invite me back to be a GA in the second year, they'll pay 75% of year two's tuition. All for 10-12 hrs per week helping a professor with research.

The team played over my expectations for sure. Not disappointed in the least.

Rose's athleticism is so far above everyone else on the Bulls' roster, that it can become a problem running the floor. You give him a running mate like who's athletically similar, and Rose's assist numbers will shoot up merely from fast-break situations. The Bulls have to be at the bottom of the league in terms of athleticism the past couple years. It's been pathetic.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 21, 2010 -> 07:54 AM) You don't think there's any connection between a player who drinks and drives and a manager who does the exact same thing? Our manager swears excessively in public. I have yet to see that rub off on any of our players.

You can keep your 99 cent mini bat or $1.99 adjustable hat.

I'd love to get Hawpe signed for the rest of this year plus a club option for 2011. Could be a great value for the Sox, as Hawpe tries to re-build his own value.

What Should Be The Next Course of Action For Your White Sox?
sircaffey replied to chetkincaid's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Aug 18, 2010 -> 10:24 AM) I've been calling for them to throw at Mauer for the last 3 head to head games. If there's two outs in the first and nobody on, I'd do it. I'd do it the next time he comes up too if there was no warning and the situation warranted it. The White Sox desperately need to find a way to intimidate that team. This isn't little league. They won't become afraid of the ball. -

We put anyone on, on purpose, and they're coming around to score. Just throw one behind Young and be done with it. -
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 18, 2010 -> 09:18 AM) After the 3rd or 4th blown save in day games I would consider giving him a breather. Then he'd still be closing in day games because Bobby has blown 2 saves during day games.

SOX @ Twinkies Danks (12-8 3.19) vs. Baker (10-9 4.76)
sircaffey replied to The Ginger Kid's topic in 2010 Season in Review
Good. -
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 17, 2010 -> 09:18 PM) Ugh, the Hudson trade makes me sick. 6 strike outs in 2.1 innings already tonight. Jackson's been stellar, but I'm still not convinced he's a big upgrade with regards to next year's rotation. 8 K throw 3 IP.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 15, 2010 -> 06:23 PM) Their offense is just a lot deeper. They had two aces in Liriano and Santana in 2006, and it wasn't enough. When Torii Hunter, Jacque Jones and Shannon Stewart are your offensive leaders, you're a bit thin. Now with Mauer, Morneau, Cuddyer, Young, Kubel and Thome, they have six sluggers to match any team, and then Hudson and Span are the table-setters. The 2002-04 and 06 teams didn't have anything resembling that offensive depth. JJ Hardy arguably is their worst offensive player, or Valencia, who has been hitting over .300 for most of the season since his recall. Liriano did not pitch in the playoffs in 2006. In fact, he pitched a total of 6 innings in August and September.
