  1. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/heres-why-the...-054109774.html This is a good article on understanding the Dodgers. They don't care about money now and they will continue not to care about money in the future. They know they will win now but also know they will win in the future. They are going to have their cake and eat it too. That there will be no real handwringing on the dodgers as they pay many millions to players in their ages 34-35-36-37-38-39 seasons to just sit and not play while their awesome prospects come in and play and stay dodgers as they pay them until they are 40 makes future baseball seem kinda not as fun. I guess the cap on int'l spending will eventually equalize it but the jig may be up.
  2. QUOTE (hi8is @ Dec 13, 2016 -> 09:26 AM) 825 pages of "tucker and martes" Urg. It's 'that' time of the offseason now. Hey we spiced things up with the PurpleRow rockies article for a while. But yes, it may be time to bring in a darkhorse team.
  3. I'd like to see what these negotiations were like.
  4. QUOTE (Special K @ Dec 13, 2016 -> 08:53 AM) Do we get a comp. pick if Frazier walks at the end of the year? Yes, but it's only a 3rd rounder or something.
  5. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 09:32 PM) Ok, so if Tucker is the centerpiece, what deal do you guys take? Because if he is the centerpiece for me, I want another 3-4 guys with some really nice ceilings. Otherwise, I want a guy that has shown something in AA/AAA. If teams won't do that now, fine. I wait. And test them again in July. Because it is not me that has the pressure to compete this year. It's them. And maybe in July, I've seen that Tucker has taken the next step and it requires less projection from me. Maybe Tucker has taken a step back or injured himself and I can save myself from making a mistake I may have made back in the offseason. You guys are some really poor poker players though if you're just willing to give in after 5 days and accept some mediocre package because Luhnow or Bridich waited your giddy ass out after the Winter Meetings. I think I may have missed something but I was mostly referring to a Martes/Tucker/Musgrove package, but also I am comfortable and happy with a Martes/Tucker/Reed/Jake Rodgers or something toward end.
  6. http://www.csnchicago.com/chicago-white-so...rks-brian-kenny Highly recommend this Eaton podcast with Chuck Garfein. Adam is honest and funny. Makes a LaRoche snipe at front office and also discusses the Sale jersey stuff. But most of all was very appreciative of sox front office and people.
  7. Yeah from listening to basically every podcast that mentioned white sox this week (it was awesome) it's clear that though national and baseball guys see Quintana as valuable, they do not see him on same level as Sale. But also all of those people were shocked a Moncada was traded. I think we will get more really good players and I'm hoping for 3 top 50 guys, but I just don't see any team in the hunt that will truly part with an elite hitting prospect in AAA ready to go. I see a possibility with Rodgers. I see a possibility with Tucker. The only place you could find something like that is Texas where you are taking profar + but I honestly don't think Texas has enough. I also say that even though this has limitations, I don't think things will improve that much. We have benefit of the first wave of rebuilding teams near championship contention and willing to deal and 2 wild card teams. Behind them are teams willing to deal with awful farms, and then rebuilding teams. I don't see too many more "on the rise" teams that would be willing to part so soon with talent. Get the best deal and get on with it. I have no doubt we'll get very good talent.
  8. QUOTE (thedoctor @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 08:01 PM) this thread needs a rumor badly. I miss winter meetings already
  9. Also apparently there was 3 teams on Eaton, was not made in a vacuum. Plus pretty sure had we polled pre trade 90% of board would have said that was no where near enough for 5 years of Eaton blah blah. Now after trade it's fleecing of century. People talk about names so much they lose meaning, then we get some and we remember how valuable some of our acquisitions are.
  10. QUOTE (heirdog @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 06:01 PM) Anyone else feel the dodgers more inclined to acquire a guy like Quintana now that they have spent big on their key free agent pieces? Top of the rotation w Kershaw and Quintana a lot more bankable than kershaw + anyone else they currently have. And at under $10 million per, gives them cost control for near elite pitcher over the 4 year window they just signed turner and Jansen (5th yr opt out). We take Puig off their hands to get Urias, Bellinger and a lottery ticket. No. I think it proves the dodgers are more than willing to stock as many players as possible without care. They have 10 starting pitchers now.
  11. QUOTE (Black_Jack29 @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 05:42 PM) Moncada is probably a half to one season away from being ML-ready and is about as dynamic as it gets. And reportedly they were only team willing to do that. Robles is 19. ATL/Hou did not offer Bregman/Swanson.
  12. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 05:26 PM) I have a hard time projecting 19 year old kids, to be honest with you. I totally downplay that. When you look at all the busts and the risks that could happen, especially with high school talent, its just get so freaking hard. We are trading a guy who is, if not elite, damn near elite, and under cost control for a very long time. I just can't justify it when the best guy we get is 19 with plenty of potential reasons for downside. Hell, he put up a .750 OPS in 2016 and in 63 games in 2015, put up a .647 OPS. No matter how good his tools are and how high of a pick he was, I just can't get that warm and fuzzy behind that piece. Remember, Courtney Hawkins put up a .804 OPS in his initial debut and was loaded with "tools". I do admit we are getting two quality pitchers as well...so I'm downplaying those aspects, but we need some dynamic position talent as well and I just don't really get that excited about the proposed package (because the arms aren't that great that it is worth ignoring "need"...if that makes sense). Just looking at how the Sale trade went, teams don't appear to be willing to part with close to majors dynamic talent. I'd rather take the big lottery tickets with Tucker/Rodgers than downgrading for less impact talent.
  13. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 05:15 PM) http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2016/12/12/lev...nals-prospects/ Man, Levine. Try harder.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 02:56 PM) This morning, someone started dumping Lockheed Martin stock 6 minutes before Donald Trump tweeted negatively about them. That's fine, we have Jason in the House for a job like this. He doesn't like conflicts of interest and backroom dealing.
  15. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 03:52 PM) Would be crazy if the Cubs came for Quintana. Yeah I don't think it's that big of a need, I think that it would be attractive to cubs at right price due to the control smoothing out possibility of losing Arrieta, but they as every probably want to hold even their blocked prospects to fill holes in team mid season.
  16. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 03:48 PM) Clayton Kershaw, one of the greatest pitchers in baseball history, says hello. When healthy, the Cy Young is pretty much his and his alone, imo. Sure, but Cy Young voting is stupid.
  17. I kinda want Q to go to the NL because I'm certain he'd be a Cy Young winner when his innings are limited and he gets even fewer legit batters per lineup. Would Q winning a Cy Young on the Cubs kill me? It's possible.
  18. I agree, but I think Rockies are going to be very hesitant to give up any of their young power pitchers. Position players more likely.
  19. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 02:06 PM) They also lost the best closer in the game. Meh, unpopular opinon I'm sure but I'd rather have Davis than Chapman, though I know people think Davis is injured. Davis seems much more of the Andrew Miller firehose reliever than Chapman, who needs to be your closer.
  20. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 02:29 PM) Bummed about Jansen going back to LA -- was hoping we could package Frazier/Robertson Yeah, seemed like Dodgers/White Sox had a good rapport after Frazier trade and constant rumors, but clear they liked their own options more (and I do too), with exception of Rich Hill.
  21. Trying to temper expectation on Robertson trade so I'm pleasantly surprised. Severino sounds like one of those guys that Soxtalk gets obsessed with though and doesn't work out, but then 5 years later that guy is playing in Korea (unless we get him, then he'll be great).
  22. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 01:51 PM) Eh, I wouldn't say the Cubs got better. But they are still the best team in the NL without question. I agree I wonder if the Dodgers get on the Quintana sweepstakes. They may need to deal a contract, but Quintana of course has a very team friendly deal and will improve their rotation significantly. Yeah cubs have a bit of an unknown with Fowler gone but get a big plus with Schwarber.
  23. QUOTE (Ezio Auditore @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 01:50 PM) I could have SWORN the Rams JUST extended Jeff Fisher. http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/1819995...eles-rams-coach According to this it was signed "well before" the preseason but they never acknowledged it. Pretty funny
