  1. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 28, 2016 -> 04:47 PM) He showed that to William while William was tied up. He probably searched William for weapons and found it on him. I do not have any physical pictures of my wife on my persons. Stop rationalizing all, I showed you the plot hole to end all plot holes: physical pictures in a future society, p'shaw
  2. QUOTE (shipps @ Nov 28, 2016 -> 04:11 PM) No no no no no. We do need to suck next year to make sure our rebuild is awesome so this might help us out. White Sox Sign Nathan Eovaldi Subtitle: COnverting him to LHP?
  3. This Gen. Petraeus thing is so hysterical because one - he should not be allowed to serve in gov't again as he actually knowingly gave intel to his mistress and was prosecuted and two - because I would be somewhat relieved because despite him being incredibly reckless he is broadly more competent than others Trump has nominated.
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 28, 2016 -> 04:07 PM) He won't be taking the field in 2017. Elbow surgery. Damn I forgot he had TJS. Abort thread.
  5. I wouldn't mind kicking tires on a player like Eovaldi if we are rebuilding. He is not good, but he has random good streaks and maybe could catch lightning in a bottle and be flipped. We will need to field a team of some players so, this is my suggestion. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/e/eovalna01.shtml Edit: Per Joel Sherman https://twitter.com/Joelsherman1/status/803357985120587776
  6. One question that I've been wondering is what if the owners back down on international draft. All of those teams like cubs/dodgers etc that banked on the int'l trade replacing current system - WOuld they be screwed? What was punishment on them for length of time they are not allowed to sign Int'l talent? Or would they be helped in that they can once again raid the system for huge classes and take their 1-2 year punishments. edit: previous post said international trade not draft.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 28, 2016 -> 03:39 PM) This is exactly how I see it. The odds are pretty high with a Sale trade, and what that would trigger, you are looking at least at 2019 for a winning season, if not 2020. And maybe the white sox finally catch a break and their 2016 class will be contributing a starting C, pitcher, closer and maybe even an outfielder. (obviously outfielder will be Schnurbusch)
  8. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Nov 28, 2016 -> 02:20 PM) Hadnt thought about it, but my first response was that there is no way you could sneak in a cell phone/computer/etc., but a picture would be possible. Yeah, just like, how many physical pictures do you own that you just carry around with you? He must be a very good brother.
  9. That's fun, but I wonder if Frazier would actually net Calhoun + Buehler, seems a better haul than trayce/micah/montas after a worse year and less control.
  10. QUOTE (Ro Da Don @ Nov 28, 2016 -> 03:20 PM) Firstly, and most importantly, catcher is a defensive-first position. We need someone back there who is going to help our pitchers, not hurt them. You wanna try him behind the plate at AAA, go ahead. I have no problems with that. But he should not be acquired to be plugged in at catcher on the Major League roster. Second, his injury history would be scary for someone behind the plate. Most recent injury was a leg, if I'm not mistaken. I guess I would just say that rebuilding seasons are the perfect time to develop players at the major league level that may not be perfect in their position. Swihart was injured sliding into bases, he'd still do that as a catcher. If swihart is on the team and we don't try him out as a catcher I'll be disappointed. I feel like sox work with Flowers defensively shows they have ability to hone them in to some degree at least with calling games and framing.
  11. I don't think levine is a good beat reporter, but I do worry that sox operate passively in trade talks and force teams to go to them vs. initiate bidding wars. But reality is I think sox are just waiting for CBA to be resolved.
  12. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 28, 2016 -> 03:13 PM) routines and training staffs dont prevent roll ups and guys stepping on feet 3 years of many different types of injuries makes it difficult to agree it's just luck and a physical game. They have also routinely underestimated healing time on their players during this period. Shoulder injuries, foot injuries, knee injuries, finger injuries arm injuries.
  13. If you are rebuilding why would you care about developing Swihart as catcher? If he does turn better as a defensive catcher you have a good offensive catcher cost controlled for 4 more years, if he doesn't pan out at catcher you try him as an OF/DH if his bat warrants it.
  14. Bears have been completely destroyed by injuries for 3 straight years it seems like. Maybe our staff needs to reevaluate the players they acquire or the routines they are using.
  15. QUOTE (shipps @ Nov 28, 2016 -> 02:30 PM) See, I dont understand this logic. You dont want them to be better and have a good season next year? You do realize you dont HAVE TO SUCK for years to rebuild and just because you do doesnt ensure you will have a successful rebuild either, right? If they trade Sale and they happen to have a good year it may mean that they hit big on some talent that they brought over and the current group they had either played to their potential or made progress. Is that really that bad? Not every team has to do it the Cubs or Royals way to be successful. I'm speaking for him, but I worry that they will prematurely "accelerate" the rebuild ala 15 and trade away some of the depth for lateral moves. Just look at some of these rumored players for Sale. I don't want to be mean to Fulmer, who is still developing, but if we had not gone for it in 15, we'd have 2 more players on the farm due to not losing compensatory picks and would have picked earlier in the draft (likely) that netted Alex Bregman, Andrew Benintendi, Kyle Tucker and Dansby Swanson. Impossible to know if we would have been bad enough to see these results, but how much better would you feel about state of sox if we had just debuted Anderson and Bregman, had a 20 home run second baseman in Semien, and Abreu as 1b. That's why I don't want to rush, get a group to develop and let them develop before trading them in for more.
  16. I would not be surprised if ala 14 we are encouraged by production of a number of young players. But if we are 81-81 I shudder at how this sox FO may respond, and we'll be living in deja vu of a few core wonderful players surrounded by trash.
  17. Anyone find it a little weird that williams brother-in-law had an actual photograph of his fiancee? Like, this is way in future and he is carrying around pictures?
  18. Depends if Obama vetoes the deal or not.
  19. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Nov 27, 2016 -> 09:14 PM) From what I've heard, Calhoun profiles as a near can't-miss stick. Rare combo of poop and excellent bat control. Buuuuuuuuuut he's a DH. I guess they have SOME hope that they might be able to let him stand at 2B and be passable if they shift enough. Sounds like a Kendrys Morales (pre-catastrophic leg injury) profile. EDIT: lol *pop. Not poop. Leaving it in for hi8is That's the one thing about the dodgers trades that worries me. I believe we'd get some great bats back, but worry we'd mostly end up with a 1b and a DH.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 27, 2016 -> 06:41 PM) Out of curiosity, would this be with the current ownership group, or a new one? And where in the world would Barack Obama be coming up with the majority of a billion-ish dollars from? I was guessing "majority" may mean chairman, like the Michael Jordan led charlotte team. No way he gets 500 million out of a book deal.
  21. Reminder that there is a filibuster for political conversation. We have had many Obama as Sox fan threads that didn't need it and neither should this.
  22. The likelihood that he has any discussions on this let alone finalized an agreement seems far fetched
  23. Lol that was hilarious. 2 tds dropped on balls in the chest to win the game. Glad we lost though.
  24. Devils advocate - that makes them less likely to trade for Sale as trading away a bunch of cheap talent across multiple positions is not a luxury they have now. They will not be able to use cash to plug in holes, are more reliant on their farm to produce than ever.
