  1. I was probably 9-10 when it happened. Its kind of fun to re-live as an adult (fun is an odd choice, but you know what I mean).
  2. Not a sox, but if Granderson stays in the game would love to have him in the org as a manager.
  3. You are talking about hall of famers though, not even all stars or really good players. Good players under control for 6 years is still very very valuable. The Royals may not have a single hall of famer, and won the world series.
  4. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 3, 2016 -> 08:18 AM) Not sure what exactly happened. I called and set up internet at my new house last Tuesday with the "self-install" option because I already had my own modem and the previous owners had Comcast. Plugged the modem in, called to set up the account, had it all activated in about 10 minutes. Worked great for a week. Then about midday yesterday, I got a voicemail from Comcast saying my service ticket was being cancelled because I had selected the self-install option so no service was needed. Weird, I hadn't made any service calls, so I just ignored it. I got home and of course the internet doesn't work, it just kicks me to the auto activation page. That doesn't work, so I call and get transferred to their moving services line. The lady there was nice and helpful, but some of her remarks included "huh, I've never seen that before" and "I don't know why they would deactivate an account like this, hold on while I contact our internal help desk [five minutes of hold]." She supposedly got it all straightened out and then transferred me to account activation to get my modem registered. This guy was completely useless and after trying to to activate twice, told me I needed to go to my local Comcast office. Which, of course, is like 25 minutes away and only open 9-5 during weekdays. No idea what that office is going to be able to do that they couldn't do over the phone/remotely, and of course I'll have no way of verifying that everything's functional when I leave that office. Google fiber can't come fast enough. edit: I hate getting mad at CSRs because I know how s***ty of a job that can be (please don't yell at Southwest phone people, you may be yelling at my mom!) and really, it's not their fault that Comcast is such a pile of garbage company with underpaid and usually incompetent technicians. I had a similar situation happen to me. They ended up cancelling my entire account as a customer, so I lost my easy to remember email and all account info. Took 8 days to correct and 6 one hour conversations. I did lose my temper once, but for the most part I have had a good experience with comcast.
  5. 1 team meeting fine. 1 team meeting every month = death knell.
  6. What's worse for the MLB: Teams like the astros/cubs tanking for 3 years or the Marlins who are never explicitly tanking but are more concerned with revenue than winning.
  7. 11,000 delegates from Iowa. That is a ridiculous number. What is that dumb conference like.
  8. Avila for sure. No basis for this but Matt Albers.
  9. WEll then, aren't you all so on top of things.
  10. http://www.sportingnews.com/mlb-news/46920...signated-hitter This happened like 3 weeks ago, and I'm surprised how muted the response has been. Perhaps thats because the real fight hasn't begun for it, but it just seems like a gigantic change to the makeup of the league and changes to status quo usually are met with much more resistance. Any thoughts on this? Pretty good news for bad fielding 1b and free agency.
  11. Unbelievable! The media once again covering up for Hillary. Just rolling out a red carpet for her!
  12. Seems like a fun day to be a Rivals or sbnation web vendor.
  13. That was great re: American crime story
  14. QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Feb 2, 2016 -> 04:51 PM) You bring up a good point. The Sox have been pretty consistent with replacing players after determining they don't have a future starting for the team. You could add in Flowers and Gillespie as additional players the Sox replaced. Hilarious. Despite the Sox stellar record the past few years, they have decided they cannot wait to see if they can develop these players while other teams can. Do you know what happens when a Marcus Semien is a starting caliber 2nd baseman? That's one player you don't need to trade for, OR you can use those prospects you traded for Lawrie to add a different player you want to cover the other positions of need.
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 2, 2016 -> 01:29 PM) For those who can't deal with the Sun Times on line, Cowley basically said Gar knows he won't win a power struggle with Pax and he is letting the rest of the league know the Bulls mess has nothing to do with him just in case he gets whacked. He is also cozying up to Michael Reinsdorf. He is getting his ducks in a row. But it is Cowley. This sounds logical, however. Gar does not seem to operate in silence, so I wouldn't be surprised if Cowley is on this. In defense of Cowley, whom I dislike, he is the only beat writer who publishes these stories for the bulls. Everything we hear usually comes from NY media.
  16. QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 2, 2016 -> 03:37 PM) Ditto. Not sure what took so long for something like this to get made. I'm glad it's being made now. Made for tv movies and tv series in the 90s weren't exactly subtle (though, not saying Ryan Murphy is subtle).
  17. Okay, but still, if you are willing to do that next year I'm not sure why you wouldn't be willing to do this this year. The prospects from that return would still need to develop.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 2, 2016 -> 01:29 PM) If this team fails this year, the 2016-17 off season will most likely be the ultimate sellers market when you look at how bad the free agent market is. The Sox will still have all of their pitching, plus a full year of Lawrie and Frazier they could sell on. Which is 2 full years away.
  19. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Feb 2, 2016 -> 01:18 PM) I've said it before: the "scorched Earth" rebuild is a relic from a different era. A true-talent .500 team is currently a contender in any given year, so every team has a shot. Profits have never been higher, so the resources to improve are there. Hard-slotting in the draft substantial reduces team's ability to re-allocate financial resources directly to future talent acquisition, and the IFA rules are following suit soon, so the benefit from failure has been drastically reduced. The rise in injuries has made the promise of future performance a riskier bet than ever before. That doesn't mean we should constantly splurge, but it does mean that we can never consider ourselves more than a year or two from contention. That means constantly stockpiling assets with surplus present and future value, and capitalizing on opportunity by flexing the financial muscle when the market/league situation indicate it is smart to do so. If every transaction makes sense in the context it was presented, than success is bound to come. The Hahn regime has been acting just like I described ALL THE WAY UP TO this year's corner OF situation. Here's my main point, I don't necessarily care about full rebuild. But upon being confronted with this tremendous sellers market for pitching, I wish they would have taken advantage. If there is a situation where ML assets are being undervalued, I want us to take advantage. If there is a situation where pitching assetss are being overvalued and we are not clear contenders, I want us to take advantage. I just can't get out of my head the question of whether we were closer to the playoffs trading Q for a haul than doing what we are doing now, with little left in the tank to acquire through anything but FA money, which we apparently have a strict budget on.
  20. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 2, 2016 -> 01:10 PM) But the Sox gave Avi Garcia a young player a lot of playing time to fight through his struggles, correct? Is he going to breakout if given another chance? He played for one full year at age 24 and the team is already actively looking to upgrade. They played semien one full year and traded them. They played Sanchez one full year and upgraded over them. They traded Trayce Thompson. Micah was given 4 weeks and sent down and then traded.
  21. QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Feb 2, 2016 -> 11:55 AM) Sanders supporters posted a video claiming all kinds of fun Clinton polling corruption. fuel engine can't melt steel beams
  22. I never stop being amazed how hard it is to read articles on sun times.
  23. Injuries and attitude. Never heard good things about him.
  24. QUOTE (chisox802 @ Feb 2, 2016 -> 11:20 AM) The sox can't do a true rebuild. 5 people would show up at games for however long the rebuild took. I love the sox but were not the cubs, and can't afford to do a true rebuild. I am very frustrated with the FO because we are a piece or two away from being a contender. None of these guys left really appeal to me, and have bust written all over them IMO. Not sure how the last two years have been any better in rebuild terms. The sox's strategy now is like turning off a street with traffic to go down a local road with a bunch of stop signs. It feels like you are moving and going faster, but you ultimately should have just stayed in the lane you were in. It is easy to imagine this team only getting 78 wins with a significant injury to Abreu or Sale or Q. Your attendance would look about the same as if you won 63. The faster you get to winning seasons the faster you get attendance boost.
