  1. Hey, as jim bowden said, you cannot rule Jerry Reinsdorf out
  2. That the team that had him last year and can least afford dead weight on their roster is apparently still ok with the deal they offered, that should be a sign.
  3. should also be a red flag that the marlins signed him.
  4. also he has no pass catching. I'm fine running back with him/monty since monty should be super cheap.
  5. that's fine, but ... it's worth considering that Jean Segura is going to be 33 and may already be in defensive decline after getting a nice bump from his move to 2b (FRAA had him negative last year after good ratings in 2020-21) . After being a model of availability, last year he was in only 98 games. So the idea that it's like, get segura, bank on stability. That's just not how we've seen things play out with these second contract FAs that we think sign reasonable deals with us. With schoop at least you could hope for offensive regression, and his defensive regression is coming down from one of the best years at second base in the last decade so at least we are finally getting a very good defender.
  6. Well that's the thing, I don't like hunting for average because then you tend to get below average in FA. Hahn always pays in FA to stabilize and ends up wasting a bunch of money that should be filled internally. In theory you can then bundle up that money for a difference maker, but that's so far from how the sox operate. Anyway I still think we should try to get Schoop for a song.
  7. Well, one of the reasons they've got it wrong was when they did not believe in their internal options and instead went hunting or 2 WAR guys while their player blossomed into an MVP candidate elsewhere. Lightning might not strike twice, but it is a consideration with Sosa.
  8. good stuff from PFF today, Brad Spielberger updated his top 50 FAs. Nice to get an updated list after Conklin/Jenkins were locked up. https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-2023-free-agent-rankings-free-agency A la Chisoxfn, I'd attack the following: 1. Daron Payne 2. Orlando Brown 3. Tremaine Edmunds - Poles believes in measurables, hard to discount here, also still only 25 which I'd guess we'd see the younger targets (why I also went Payne over Hargrave) 4. Marcus Davenport - oft-injured but if that resolves he has a high ceiling here 5. Ben Powers G - turned into a great pass blocker and we need more of that (also why I went Brown v. McGlinchey) 6. Ethan Pocic - C Likely Cut WR - Michael Thomas See the market: Tony Pollard/Saquon Barkely
  9. I actually agree with Chisoxfn here. I think you take the talent where it is. I'd target pollard if he actually becomes a FA, but Saquon is such a beast in the passing game. It would be interesting if Mike Thomas comes cheap (which...I mean he kinda should), as he'd be a perfect flyer for a team that can take a little more risk on. The other thing is the whole league has started to down grade RBs again after the Elliott/Gurley run, and I think that helps maintain his money at a low rate.
  10. https://www.pff.com/news/draft-2023-nfl-mock-draft-five-qbs-first-round-colts-trade-bryce-young first mock draft i've seen post draft order: Colts move up to 1 for Bryce Young, the Texans take Levis, and the Bears are able to still get Jalen Carter. Terms of the trade up aren't described here, but also notable that 4 QBs are taken in top ten. I think PFF is right here, and that Anthony Richardson eventually moves into top ten. The hedge on this is Malik Willis, who also had great skillset but was super raw and draft mocks way overrated how teams would view. But Richardson's tantalizing measurables I think push him into these teams that have been treading water with QBs like Carolina.
  11. This is a sad situation but this is a very funny post lol
  12. from the moment he was drafted it was like "yeah he's like not ready at all, can't do anything well, we're really excited about him". Traits are important and all but...
  13. I think this is wrong unfortunately. According to Courtney Cronin, he would have had to be with the Bears for 2 years and he's only been for 11 months.
  14. I agree I'd be guffawed if they gave up 12 for one spot, but it will really depend on where they are as an org. I think you see with others, you can get fatigued quick with absolutely nothing at QB which is what they and carolina have been at. I would just as soon go for stroud, but if you zero in on a guy you may just pay the price. OR they get andy dalton or pay for geno smith if the seahawks decide to go young there (which I extremely doubt).
  15. Spielberger has been harping on this: Not only do the bears have a lot of space, but because they have been below the mandated spending floor the last few years, they have to spend a lot of it. And while FA looks meh now, with teams like bucs, saints, rams that have been in win now mode for years, we may see many more guys available as they hit the reset button.
  16. I think an interesting dynamic is if teams trying to move up are more likely to try to give current year trade capital after seeing what happened to the Rams, Texans, Saints of recent years giving much higher picks than imagined. Obviously, it can be hard to get the amount of value you need in current draft, but maybe teams who feel they are a QB away may be less inclined to send many future picks. For example, I saw a tweet today saying bears get the texans 2 first round picks this year (2, 12), then trade back with seahawks for 5, 20. They'd end up with 5, 12, 20. But to me the ideal would be back for multiple future firsts, especially an atlanta, carolina who are unlikely to see a big leap with one.
  17. I always thought it was excessive. Glad it was overturned given what happened after.
  18. first of many 0fers. I wonder if it's the cardinals that go Dan Quinn. They really should get an experienced coach for where the team is at.
  19. My guesses: McVay "retires". Given how things tend to work out for the rams recently, would be funny if Payton and McVay basically swap places and Payton goes to LA, McVay goes to booth. Was a nightmare year but I still think Rams talent is strong and Payton would rather work with a Stafford type. Broncos fire hacket, hire harbaugh. I think they are a more likely fit for Harbaugh since Paton is now in this weird state where he is sort of neutered with his terrible decisions. Harbaugh clearly wants nfl with rich owners that align with him. Carolina - I could see Wilks maybe staying for a year while Carolina sees what's possible in offseason, but I'd say more likely that they go after like Kafka. Arizona - controversial but I say they keep Kingsbury another year. Houston - made their decision, I feel like they'll have to go to college to get a coach, I don't know why. Not sure who fits mold but maybe Todd Monken return. Browns should move on but I think they keep stefanski. Atlanta - I gotta wonder where this is going. Hard to pull the plug after just giving Smith Mariota and saying fix it, but when you see someone like Dan Campbell integrating the young players and ascending to a winning record, it's hard to watch the falcons in a not great division just be nothing for multiple years under smith. I say he's fired Commanders - keep Rivera since everything will be a holding pattern until the sale. If I was Jets I'd fire saleh. That defense was incredibly talented, you made the gamble to go after playoffs with a backup and you didn't get in playoffs and don't have a QB long-term. I would imagine Jets will be the leverage played against baltimore in their Lamar saga. Then they sign baker mayfield. So I guess 6 new coaches is my guess. I'd say Dan Quinn gets a job. Kafka gets a job. Payton obviously, harbaugh makes move. Then last is todd monken gets a job.
  20. I have to say my memory of when Lovie was hired was that the club was in transition, in chaos, and couldn't find the coach they wanted so they handed it to Lovie who was well respected in the org. I kinda thought at the time everyone assumed he was just the equivalent of a placeholder. Didn't realize so many expected him as a long term hire. And given that Mills didn't really take the next step and the team didn't fare much better, not sure why you'd keep him around if you don't view him as the long term guy. But obviously that org is a mess, not saying it's good, just surprised that many thought lovie would be there past this year.
  21. Well... I would very much imagine that insurance recoups the sox explicitly for a situation like this. So they may have Liam's salary at neutral. And I would guess they definitely had insurance on his contract.
  22. That’s what we thought this year. The season will tell.
  23. It does look like survival rates in Liam’s age group are much higher, and hopefully he is in a stage 1 or 2 scenario. Godspeed. Terrible news.
  24. I hope Bears get some better luck next year on SOS. Been a brutal run recently.
  25. Man this stuff is so terrible. You know the odds are he will fight this and live a long happy life, yet also know that’s no guarantee. I really hope there have been some advancements here. That 74% rate someone threw out is not the most reassuring thing to see.
