Official 2013-2014 NCAA Football Thread
bmags replied to Kyyle23's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
There is an awful story on Mizzou Athletics on OTL about a Swimmer that said she was sexually assaulted by a football player to several nurses, counselors, and according to diary a Athletics administrator before committing suicide a year later. The university is saying no admin official had been notified, and that the medical personnel were all bound to respect her wishes, and she had declined to pursue. But now that she has passed, the University can pursue and I hope that they will. They also need to re-evaluate their sexual assault procedures to be more proactive. It seems like everyone didn't move because she expressed she was scared to press charges, but that doesn't mean they couldn't have investigated. http://www.thewire.com/national/2014/01/wh...egation/357367/ Part of Mizzou AD exchange: http://www.mutigers.com/genrel/012414-otl-exchange.html -

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jan 24, 2014 -> 03:54 PM) The cop went way to far it sounds like, however, that kid (which ever one it was) should not be antagonizing the cop. Not saying that justifies what the cop did, but it just opens the door for a bad situation. Government officials should be the ones responsible for a simple situation not escalating, not a 16 year old kid. BTW, NPR reporting that it's pretty much set in stone that former Chicago Police Commander and Mass Torturer Burge will be able to keep his pension.

QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Jan 24, 2014 -> 03:58 PM) Larry Bird being the obvious exception. Well, I think "larry legend" benefits from the crippled broken down Larry Bird still coming up huge in some playoff games late in his career.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 24, 2014 -> 03:49 PM) You mean since approximately 1990? Seriously, the NBA now is so much better than the late nineties/early 00s that I just can't take this crap seriously. There is so much motion going on off the ball specifically to create a favorable one-on-one matchup and outlet it's still a fascinating sport.

QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Jan 24, 2014 -> 04:15 PM) Fair enough, maybe KD is a stretch at this point but I think we can agree that James is almost a lock. Almost and probable, but as I've said, GOAT players almost all had quality play well into their thirties. It is going to be the latter half that defines James.

At mid-december LBJ was shooting 68% and MVP was in the bag, now end of Jan Durant leading scoring and had a hot streak, MVP is in the bag. Season will play out. Durant has edge because of MVP fatigue.

Seeing Federer fall off the past year has been rough, but Nadal has been so incredible. Hoping for a Stan-Nadal final. Kind of annoyed by the Nova-Federer play recently.

http://grantland.com/the-triangle/whats-wrong-with-the-heat/ Article pissed me off. "oh you've had 4 guys miss some time, awww poor heat. They've had such terrible injury luck"

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 23, 2014 -> 05:45 PM) they're reasonably priced, usually cheaper than Dyson, but Miele vacuums can be close to $1000 Yeah I have the really popular tiny orange one that is mainly an intense dust buster with a standup frame you can detach it from.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 23, 2014 -> 09:33 PM) So what if one of the teams is a dome built team, and the other is a power running team that benefits from being outside? The field isn't playing neutral at that point. I mean, sure. But that's a lot more neutral then "and there is 50 mph winds and sleet".
-
QUOTE (SleepyWhiteSox @ Jan 23, 2014 -> 08:08 PM) They could conceivably start to build a better team depending on who they draft to pair with Drummond or Irving respectively. Like Brandon Jennings, Josh Smith and Anthony Bennett.

I'm fine with NFC championship game because there is a degree of Home Field advantage that the home team played for all year. The Super Bowl is supposed to be a neutral field, and s***ty weather kind of ruins that appeal for me.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 23, 2014 -> 06:36 PM) I've heard that Dysons are ok but are over-priced, might not last all that long and can have repair problems. OTOH if you go nuts and buy something like a Miele or an Electrolux, it really is supposed to be substantially better and last forever. But who the hell wants to pay that much for a vacuum? there was a reddit "AMA" by a vacuum repair technician a few months ago, http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/1pe2...i_cant_believe/ We have an electrolux and love it.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jan 23, 2014 -> 05:10 PM) This winter has really made me want to move. Yes. Pretty fed up. And any minor transport snafu is sending me on edge with thoughts like "DON'T THEY KNOW ITS SUB ZERO AND PEOPLE CAN DIE OUT HERE"

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 23, 2014 -> 03:16 PM) Yeah, the teams themselves aren't NFP, but the league is. Gotta question why, though, because the NFL certainly seems to make itself a ton of money, at least enough to pay Goddell close to $30M. Paying execs absurd amounts of money relative to their skill sounds exactly like a NFP to me.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 23, 2014 -> 03:51 PM) This is all true but they're still not going anywhere. I guess I'm bitter but I still find no joy in this. In the NBA, you rarely have a team that is going somewhere. Bulls will definitely be in playoffs and depending on draw will get in 2nd round again. Imagine being a DET or CLE fan right now, you would crap your pants and that's a disappointment here. I'd tell fellow Bulls fans to actually watch and enjoy Joakim Noah right now. He's averaging 11 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists and a block and a steal per game. Yeah, he gets injured, many 7 footers (close enough) have had trouble with injuries playing a sport this brutal. There are a handful of centers better than Noah right now, you can either drool over them or just enjoy actually watching a good one play in your jersey.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 23, 2014 -> 03:38 PM) Yeah that sucked. Everytime Radwanska would go left, Cibulkova would crush it right. Like you said, exact opposite of the Azarenka match. Then it just looked like she gave up near the end. She came out really flat. My two favorites of the Open, Radwanska and Genie are out. Borchard could not get her first serve in for the life of her, and her second serve was getting crushed with a great backhand.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jan 23, 2014 -> 03:41 PM) I find Augustine very fun to watch. If they can be as entertaining as last year in a lost Year, I'll take it I guess. He's a much better pure PG than we are used to seeing, and especially since our offense sort of asks PG to score or shoot a lot and let bigs get put backs. But, I have yet to see a Bulls Cavs game where Irving was not outplayed by our PGs.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 23, 2014 -> 02:58 PM) Do what though? The tank is definitely dead but unfortunately there's still nothing to cheer for. Team has been pretty entertaining since DJ has come on and Noah has gotten healthy. Taj is having a really good year as is Snell. Team still plays hard every night and is has been winning like crazy.
