  1. I wonder if it’s possible to have an opinion on baseball that isn’t solely based on how it reflects on Reinsdorfs ownership
  2. I’m not gonna lie. I actually hate this and think they should fix this in a way that fucks over the dodgers retroactively.
  3. I think two worries I have is just the difference in baseball size and the pre-tacked ball of Japan. These things won't have monstrous effects, they will be marginal, but when you are paying a guy to be Gerrit Cole it'd be nice to know what he looks like with the same equipment. Again, I don't think he's not special or a big prospect, just surprised if he gets the kind of contract a top pitcher would get. The lower risk from his age has other risks negating that.
  4. How dare they do that instead of just tweeting out publicly available info with the word "fabulous" added.
  5. Yeah I have no doubt this guy is awesome, but regardless it has not yet officially translated to the MLB. I'd be extremely nervous to pay full price for someone who has not literally shown they can dominate mlb hitters. I do wonder what Shohei would have gotten had he been 25 when he came over.
  6. I don't really have a strong opinion on what to do with fields. I lean toward drafting a QB, but I do like him a lot despite it all. But earlier in the year one of the common refrains was showing how obvious it was that you should build a super team like Detroit and you can see how much better the QB gets. Goff is a top 20 qb. He's capable of doing a lot on the field. But we did see why a team moved on was when it was the best of the best he wasn't good enough. I thought it would take until jan for the stakes to remind people of what a top QB can be. Purdy will still be pointed to, but who knows with him. I would just say that if your team stays super healthy it looks easy. With Fields, I still worry that when game script goes off he doesn't seem to fight through it well. ANd I don't think that's a good trait for playoff teams. Funny how every year in the NFL i forget how long the season is and how quickly it can change. After the broncos game I thought how on earth could this get worse. Win just two games in a row and you think "this winning will never end"
  7. Pretty wild the talent Curacao has put out recently for such a teeny island. Haven't really hit well on brothers yet but bloodlines would be probably the smartest thing to bet on with a 16 year old.
  8. One of the funnier parts is just how annoyed some fans were that the holding call in the super bowl decided the game rather than letting the players play. That benefitted KC, but also, that penalty was in the flow of the play where you could decide to call or not. He brought up that this didn't affect the success of the play, but on the other hand, it was called right away. The ref would have had no idea what was about to happen. That said, all the top athletes are psychopaths like this. They hate losing. I agree its a bad look but on the other hand it's not surprising.
  9. heh, maybe a telephone game of hearing "chicago" Still - very encouraging.
  10. I would be surprised by this. Heyman tends to report from the agent side so I'm skeptical.
  11. Especially since Toney has done so many stupid things in football games, i'd be livid.
  12. I enjoy Bruce trying to recite dodger prospects
  13. Yeah, the other thing is just when fields takes a negative play it’s like a 15 yard loss, and they happen a lot. But he was nails late in the game, on a few of those first downs. Liked seeing that
  14. It is good news that our draft picks are starting to perform on defense. OTOH a bit nervous Eberflus returns.
  15. He at least had a front seat to what Zaidi built, who was the LAD player dev guru the first half of the Friedman era. It is the benefit of Getz getting outside hires, they’ve seen what successful operations look like. Now hopefully they can execute them in a Reinsdorf culture of laziness.
  16. I’m really glad they gave it to Daniels. He was unreal.
  17. Just for the record, I wasn’t referring to Lisle, I was talking about Ben Hansen who was in a similar capacity here. He was credited with finding more velo on Kade McClure. He left to do some sports stuff with intel, and then was hired by the Mets to be director of sports performance. By all accounts, was a talented hire, but didn’t stick around and I assume because there wasn’t a lot to do in the Sox org.
  18. I still think the Mets total salary commitment last year will end up much more of an egregious outlier than what the dodgers are likely to trot out this year. The luxury tax has proven pretty harsh and teams keep swerving under. (I’d prefer a salary cap in baseball. Sorry to players but it makes free agency much more fun.)
  19. This literally is like the least concerning part
  20. Their total luxury salary is all that matters. Them getting more people to pay the subscription is all that matters. They’ve been able to integrate cheap talent for a decade. They’ll be fine.
  21. Dodgers have been planning their entire roster around this for two years.
  22. The fact that it was at a sushi restaurant raised internet bullshit alarms to me
  23. The Hahn regime had this too. What hopefully will be different is he just added people and expected them to be Superman and integrate it themselves rather that work to get whole org aligned
