I could buy Sosa if he can turn his awful months into only bad. But he had an absolute scorcher to end the season that did little to improve his numbers because he was coming off 90 bats in august that he could have just stood there and swung at nothing and probably had more bases.

It really was a sign of how bad last year was where if any of us would have heard AB was going to hit 20 home runs I'd guess hed be flirting with his KC numbers, but his home runs basically ate up his doubles, and he hit a career low in ba. Just insane. I'd hope he could at least be a slightly above 100 player for sure.

I'm trying to get into the year. Last year, you may remember that we had very few offensive players who could hit the average mark of wRC+ or OPS+ (100). This was the list: ok that was for qualified players, but you get the idea. I don't think that will happen again. This is Zips, who takes mercy: Of players who I think we could be pleasantly surprised by, I'd put it on a first baseman guy. A weird bobby dalbec resurgence or the people get what they want and Tim Elko has 50 hrs and 500 Ks. Of players who I hope could actually get to league average, it's Brooks Baldwin. WOuld be really helpful. If Vargas can get to .430 slugging though that would be a big help.

Hearing about the hot radar guns this early...anyone not feel great about that? Like it's better than hearing some are mid-eighties but I'm nervous late march is just going to be 8 TJS

I totally get the reasonable expectations for Burke and that's totally right. But as a whole, for this team to take a step forward...someone needs to hit way beyond expectations. Last year a Ramos, a Baldwin, they come up and fall on their face. We need someone to be better, way better, than we thought last year. And this actually happens often on other rebuilding teams. So if it's burke, cool. If it's meidroth...cool. We need one. Last year, i'd say crochet was that. but we need one with 4+ years of control to occur.

I think the most disheartening thing is after a 5-8 year period of the luxury tax being a legitimate scare, we've now entered this era of "they'll just defer payments to stay under the luxury tax and players are cool because deferred payments of $100s of millions is not that upsetting". But hard not to want to see some changes because there is no team more greatly screwed by this CBA than the chicago white sox while owned by Reinsdorf.

This would be a good time to buy, but I don’t know. The collapse of regional sports networks and non nfl sports decline is tough. But these aren’t businesses they are buying but hobbies.

Here is my silver lining take: I like that the Sox appear to want to use this tool to improve bat speed. Ideally, we can see if they were successful. If so, did it come at cost of anything else? If not successful, do they drop mentioning it at all or keep going? Problem with upgrades under Hahn was they seemed run by idiots who appeared to want to be modern but without any plan on what it was supposed to do. These tools, like anything, aren’t the solution in and of themselves.
