wow that's funny. I started putting this together too and ended up kinda bored because I was struggling to find team WAR totals. Maybe I did post it? But my conclusion was largely that we would still be a pretty dogshit team that maybe never made teh playoffs. Our pitching would have been too weak in early 20s, and Sale wasn't enough to save us last year.

No offense but this reminds me of when the board was like "no way san diego can afford machado, their property payment is killer!". For all the talk of brady part time owner, what Ben Johnson could see there is a set-up exactly like detroit - where chris spielman became the 'football guy' that helped spur the hiring of holmes and campbell. He barely has an official title, like Brady, but is a big influence in helping guide the ship. And I really wonder if Johnson's experience with Goff has become formative. There was a story yesterday of the Commanders hearing from Johnson that they wanted him to keep Howell. We may see an org with no qb, johnson may see a place where daniel jones is going to be saved by him. But the x factor is really just that the raiders are openly courting johnson, desperate to have him, and the bears are reading the dictionary to try to figure out what a head coach is.

I think there is a bit more pushing back on McCarthy as a bad coach because there was a sense that he was just a product of Aaron Rodgers, then a sense that Kellen Moore was the true genius, but when Moore left, the chargers struggled, and McCarthy led the cowboys to the number one offense…it definitely muddied the picture. He’s clearly not just a product of his talent, but also hasn’t appeared to have lifted a talent decrepit team to the playoffs. Anyway Johnson or bust.

I think the “hiring a coach immediately” approach bears have taken is extremely overrated. KOC and McDaniel were later hires, I don’t think we’ll be screwed much other that by the bears ownership
-
I don’t disagree, and maybe my standards should be higher. But more than anything I want to know if Caleb should get a starting qb deal in 3 years and I think McCarthy would get us that answer confidently. I could see Brian Flores as more likely to win a Super Bowl but not get us that answer

Really? Cards seem to be aligning for Brady to let Johnson redesign the raiders in his image. Bears meanwhile are interviewing the packers OC for some reason

Roki Sasaki Free Agency - Dodgers vs Blue Jays for Roki's heart

Do you think he even called the Sox to let us know -
Truth be told I think this is a great year to hire a coach. I’m not super anti McCarthy or Carroll. I really need football, so I hope they get this right…but this “explore every nook” HC search as if they are an org like the packers that will uncover a McCarthy or lafleur after bad years…I have low expectations I guess. So I guess cards on the table, I still only really want Johnson. Id be ok with Carroll and McCarthy (I know, but I would) I’d be ok enough with Monken, Brady. Id be happy with Kliff (doesn’t sound like that’s a thing tho). but it really feels like it’ll be like Matt Campbell or like that northwestern coach or some s%*#

Ishbia brothers own small piece of White Sox...
bmags replied to Lip Man 1's topic in Pale Hose Talk
some poster on here: uhmmm NARRATIVE VIOLATION, the Ishbia twins become owners and the white sox go from 30 games above .500 to 180 games below since they've been (single-digit) owners???!? -
Roki Sasaki Free Agency - Dodgers vs Blue Jays for Roki's heart

I believe this means that Roki believes the white sox are better than the Yankees and Mets. -
the WR coach who everytime I try to remember his name I pull "Ashton Jeanty"
-
I've said it before but I think the big thing diff' about this class was the throwing reps. But talent will separate it eventually

Why isn't some of that McCarthy? He kept Moore from previous staff then fired him. He brough Dan Quinn in, he gets hired out. Doesn't seem that crazy. Meanwhile Jones kept Jason Garrett on as HC for 10 years despite being terrible. Gave McCarthy a full contract even when others thought he was underachieving.

what is the best job? I don't see why Dallas wouldn't look like Detroit part two to Ben Johnson.
-
He has been extremely patient with coaches. WIll McClay is excellent at bringing in talent. You have Dak Prescott. You'll get paid a ton. That's a great job.

I'm still pretty high on williams. It is crazy to me though that he had the numbers he did - and our offense was 32nd. Why? His sacks were a big deal, for one. His turnovers were not bad, but being unable to go for short yards hurt the team - and where he was going for constantly keeping us ahead of the chains were our best games. But the weirdest part of caleb's year was by far his horrendous deep accuracy. The reason why people are gaga over Maye instead of Williams was Maye went after chunk yards and hit it a bunch, Williams was doing a better job short and intermediate. But the pats oline isn't good, neither was washingtons last year. Washington smartly invested in the interior, but also made an offense for Jayden. Bears decided to push a different route and it was super clunky. I don't think we know a lot yet. Bears just have a lot of issues related to being the bears. Their GM is horrendous in FA, while others found good starters. Their coaching is terrible. Just have been unable to grind out victories. But even if Caleb and Jayden had similar numbers, Jayden's teams never punted because he always got them to third and short and then he converted every 4th down. On the other hand, Brian Robinson is good and swift would run backward 10 yards. Great signing.

my roller coaster just now: "haha...cowboys." "oh s%*# they have the best job and they are now hiring a coach"

My buddy and I have a side bet that nick saban ends up as a rumor at some point (credible rumors)

I find it funny that a few months ago the claim against Warren was that he was an empty suit doing nothing, now the main claim is he is meddling too much in football ops.
-
George Ofman is not a real reporter anymore. Bears are idiots, but I don't put much into his insight.
-
I know some will say it doesn't hurt to talk, but I think this indicates the bears overweighing the importance of interviews in this process.
-
Has a very similar resume to Daboll, including the "at same level" for a while. Unclear why people didn't tap him after success in Tampa, etc but he's been dynamite since moving to College.
-
He may well, that’s why bears need to actually try to get someone others like rather than believe their pathetic interview round robin will surface the best coach. Trust others!

Must be what Cincinnati needed to get Luis Robert or something
