What sucks the most is like...yeah actually us getting a ton of draft capital is new. With the exception of the 2002 trade back, which...was wasted on a bad draft class, the reaches we've made for QBs in 97, 2009, 2017 and 2021 along with the Mack trade have had us really on the edge for talent with the exception of some incredible Angelo drafts in early 2000s. This really was different. But they could have really stepped on the gas and instead you have these people looking us in the eye and saying that this will work behind this coach who clearly dresses pretty nicely but is not schematically impressive, or young, or good at bringing in staff. That may be where the Front Office has to put their thumb on the scale. THEY need to go get the OC, pay them like an HC.

Sigh. SIGGGH. If you have receipts for me, obviously I was not the most anti-eberflus. I said I wanted the names. Well the names are in and they are good man. They are good. They aren't even the "I love Ben Johnson" type thing, the experienced head coaches are GREAT. If this was howie roseman, you'd say "hey, he gets it". Zero chance they are correct, because if they were, they wouldn't have been hired by George McCaskey. That said...no to frank reich. No to thomas brown. Yes to Kliff Klingsbury (would be insane though, no chance. Unless he hates having to deal with recruiting under transfer portal) Yes to Zac Robinson (but why would he?) Yes to Ken Dorsey (maybe, but he seems like a jerk) Yes to Klint Kubiak Okay with Greg Olson (former Raiders OC and replaced Dave Canales and currently Seahawks QB coach) (Not the TE) Darrell Bevell - still has a good reputation, but, quite frankly his last two stops were atrocious. I mean the guy was in charge of Lawrences rookie year. But he's just had 2 years under Mike McDaniel. Intrigued by Tavita Pritchard - Bienemy's QB coach, former stanford OC Down on Pep Hamilton I left of Bienemy...because I just find it so improbable. But great if it happens?

Convinced it was Phillips. If he still knows, would assume George is still friends with him. Desperately hope he’s wrong so I can stop following him.

Oh well. DBB coming out of the woodwork with word that flus is safe…fields will still be on the roster…And bears likely pick a qb. Very odd and will likely fail (because bears love to find people who decide their poor decision will work this time) But I do LOVE watching dbb have to switch it into high gear, get his saliva producin, and lick that boot with vigor. Of course it’s a great idea…the bears are doing it and they know more than you!

Or...just josh mcdaniel. Genuinely still think he is a good offensive mind but clearly a huge jerk.

At Mizzou barry odom was an unbelievable DC, and he did a lot of good things and hired some really good assistants, but never broke thru past mediocre. Key being his defenses were pretty bad. Then he goes to Arkansas and is an incredible DC again. Then he had a great run this year as a HC again. I think you are right, split your brain too much because you are essentially playcaller, too hard to actually gameplan.

A team that reunites him with Arthur Smith at OC...is gonna win some games soon.

Cease To Padres per Passan
LMAO yeah i forgot as Quin said, Madrigal is the new Yolmer. Loved last year when people complained Jacob Gonzalez was basically like drafting Madrigal (fair in that they both suck)

They took swings at Willis and Levis. And there was a lot of rumors they were trying to trade up to 1 last year (glad they didn't!)

Comparing Jones to Rutherford is peak soxtalk comps lol. Just like that year where every infielder with a good glove but not amazing offense was basically Yolmer Sanchez so we didn't need to get them.

I think people forget how skittish people get on these QBs regardless. Joe Burrow was a great, GREAT prospect. He also was older and a 1-year wonder. That raised flags! He had amazing talent. That raised flags! Nobody could deny the production and how it seemed he handled. There was SO much hype for Andrew Luck for his last year, and some felt it wasn't as good as it should have been for such a hyped prospect. Peyton Manning had a bad last game, they got blown out. Ryan Leaf may be better than him! People talked like this! Then once they succeed they kinda retrofit that they were good QB prospects. Scuttlebutt on Herbert was he underachieved and was a boring QB. As Tony mentioned, people just kinda yadda yadda lance because he's extremely inconvenient. He was allowed to sit. He was in the best offense ever. ANd he failed! It can definitely happen. But the problem with Caleb Williams is he is not 6'4. Otherwise he is a great prospect. Drake Maye is 6'4, but also throws like with bad accuracy. Jayden Daniels is a twig and a late bloomer.

I don't take that DC stuff for granted, but more important to me is he has shown an ability do develop players. Chris Morgan has done a good job with Jenkins/Wright/Jones. There is just a lack of overall talent on that line. The DBs were great. The WR...well that's where I'd get rid of Getsy/Tolbert and get a better set of coaches there, including for passing coordinator.

While I cannot rule out he'll want full control, that perception has clearly prevented him from a job prior. He has hired an agent, which he did not do prior either. If he gets the full gig, I'll say it wasn't the time. But Poles is coming from a place that he could point to for why not to take up that control: Reid gave up that control and found great success with the personnel men that Poles came from. But you can't blame Harbaugh after getting run around like he did prior. I think if anything some silly structure like GB put in place where both Poles and Harbaugh report directly to Warren could happen.

Penix meanwhile, I still like, but boy did you see every criticism Caulfield posted. I kinda never understood the arm strength thing with him, but you definitely could see the "only has one type of throw, the lazer" and could not change to loft or get throws over LBs that were sticking underneath. He does seem incredibly smart and undeterred though. Wish Jayden Daniels could have had a defense this year. People would have been amazed by how he could shred even the best defenses. Some some laughable takes on how they should have waited to give out heisman until after playoffs, as if Penix was close to what Daniels accomplished.

While the white sox can no longer hurt me, I am deluding myself into thinking our new front office is exploring bringing in Harbaugh. Super embarrassing for me when they bring in Frank Reich as OC. I do still really like McCarthy but he's such a wild card. I do wonder though with the "anticipation" throws, I still kinda think he is asked to still make a predetermined throw and he has a lot of tutelage on making that throw and it's less of a "feel" thing. But he's so interesting as a prospect. I mostly think that development for QBs is extremely overrated as a way to deal with the uncertainty of life, but for him, his age/pass attempts I think do need to be calibrated first.

You know...Trent Balke didn't come out looking great in San Fran. He made the program in his image in Stanford. He burned bright and burned out in San Fran. And despite the outside noise, as he figured out the recruiting game and staff at Michigan he now would definitely be there a decade plus. He reminds me of Thibs except without the player burn out. He also is extremely lucky to be able to lean on his brothers NFL knowledge for staff.

I think our priors should be that he will likely be retained, but if he's let go, it's because they know who they want. If you just want to make a change because you feel 100% he's not it (which they clearly don't believe), you fire him immediately and enter new process. Potential, however small, of some experienced coaches in Vrabel (a Vrabel + Arthur Smith pairing would be pretty great), and obviously Belicheck. But obviously main guy I'd like is Harbaugh. You should be working behind the scenes on them. For OC only...man that just brings some Bill Lazor stuff. No idea who hitches their wagon to Flus. Still would imagine a guy like Greg Olsen would be the best he could do. But oof we'll end up with Reich.

OTC has their "effective cap space" much lower, due to the number of players on contract being only at 37 and having 2 first round picks to pay. Cutting Jackson/Whitehair does save about $20mil though, so would be around $58 million after that.

https://x.com/robertkschmitz/status/1744156188453790138?s=46&t=9lkBcVJmwvxFpyVi5DNtCg Pretty much. If we build the perfect team around fields we could indeed be a top 14 offense!

The point is between Stroud last night and Love tonight, you watched QBs who can run a passing offense. Fields just can’t. He can’t take the 4 yard pass when the 12 yard route isn’t going to be open. He can’t move primarily thru the air. You are never going to throw 15 times in a row with him, you’ll be three and out. But when those QBs make a bad throw or are pressured they say “aw see they are just like fields”. It’s hilarious.
