Cease To Padres per Passan
I mean think about how long Jorge Mateo was a guy on people's radars. Or how Estevan Florial just skyrocketed based off of some power. There's guys like that in every system but they are an impossible org to follow as a fan because you never know what to trust.

Cease To Padres per Passan
They are always all hype. The yankees always tend to keep the ones that matter and discard the trash. A NYY prospect that is moderately strong offensively in single A will catapault to the top 100 immediately and stay there for 4 years despite rarely growing and still end up finding their way in a trade for a starting pitcher.

I hate yankees prospects.

For the record I have not been saying Cease has a lack of value, you jus tmis For the record I have not been stating Cease has a lack of value, you are just assuming this because I like grissom because he is good.

Matt Shaw would be like if Madrigal was good. Nice consolation price. And let's us re-draft 2023 over again (I know he was taken before)

Surprised this is taking so long, usually is ominous in trades.

Ohtani Watch: Dodgers sign - 700M over 10yrs
100% agree with this. I think in the past the thought was that deferred money could help smaller revenue clubs afford big talent. Now it's broken wide open a new loophole to help bigger revenue teams avoid a tax hit (which removes additional resources from them and spreads revenue to smaller teams). Maybe this truly is unique to Shohei, but I'd rather not see. I'm generally fine with baseball's competitiveness, but if this breaks open a new super team era (concentrated to the best markets) while also living with the extremely boring offseasons, it will be brutal.

Teams are mostly around the salary cap, milwaukee and denver have the best players in the world. No idea what you are talking about.

Yes because there is no other leagues we can look at with this structure to see how it would function.

We could maybe pull a china and put all of US on eastern time to crush that advantage.

For me this is obnoxious less because of haves and have nots parity, though I do think this breaks a system that had worked pretty well. But there are some inherent advantages the west coast teams have. Big cities, yes. Nice places to live. Yes, the home town of a ton of baseball players…yes. They also have a huge advantage with the Asian markets because of straight up geography. The games would play at a reasonable hour in Japan. They haven’t exclusively owned this market, but for top players it’s an uphill battle. What are the downsides? Well taxes, both luxury and state. He circumvents these in a way that obliterates the luxury tax which had proven powerful - yanks and dodgers have dipped under multiple times now. Will every player do this? No, but for players who have additional revenue streams, I.e. the best players, they can now put their thumb on the scales for a super team without losing much - The net present value of the Ohtani deal is still massive. Maybe it was beaten by blue jays, but still most ever. Welcome to the nba super team era of the nba - where places players most want to play have found a situation where they can easily fit multiple guys. Oh and they can still afford massive pd and scouting operations. Let’s do salary cap. Sorry players. I care more about an entertaining game in this artificial economy than supporting a low stakes power struggle.

I wonder if it’s possible to have an opinion on baseball that isn’t solely based on how it reflects on Reinsdorfs ownership

I’m not gonna lie. I actually hate this and think they should fix this in a way that fucks over the dodgers retroactively.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto got $325 million 12 years from Dodgers (+posting fee)
I think two worries I have is just the difference in baseball size and the pre-tacked ball of Japan. These things won't have monstrous effects, they will be marginal, but when you are paying a guy to be Gerrit Cole it'd be nice to know what he looks like with the same equipment. Again, I don't think he's not special or a big prospect, just surprised if he gets the kind of contract a top pitcher would get. The lower risk from his age has other risks negating that.

How dare they do that instead of just tweeting out publicly available info with the word "fabulous" added.

Yeah I have no doubt this guy is awesome, but regardless it has not yet officially translated to the MLB. I'd be extremely nervous to pay full price for someone who has not literally shown they can dominate mlb hitters. I do wonder what Shohei would have gotten had he been 25 when he came over.
