  2. Eh, I disagree. After the panthers traded for #1 Stroud became the favorite in the betting markets. Young retook that closer to the draft, but even day of there was heat about Levi’s/Richardson at 1. People thought Reich preferred bigger QBs, and Young’s height was a big deal. Bears brass also aren’t supposed to just take consensus picks as their options, so yes, they did pass on Stroud. And Richardson. And Young.
  3. My personal belief is Mike MacDonald is gonna go to the Patriots, they draft MHJ at 3 and trade for Fields, and absolutely crush it and horrify bears fans for the first 6 months. But I do think the popular mocks of Williams / Odunze at 1 and 10 are intoxicating . (I still want McConkey with that extra second, but maybe could even get Tez Walker)
  4. Brooks Boyer, tracing his fingers lovingly over the letters of his new slogan and rallying cry: “white Sox 2024: revamped org chart”
  5. I think Beck will rise. Missing that short AZ qb too, he’ll cause some conversations. Tough L for the “it takes 3 years to be competitive after getting a rookie qb” crowd last night.
  6. Can you blame them? They drafted him basically pointing to Judge
  7. I’ve harped on it all offseason but I 100% believe Hahn wanted players with high public rankings because he liked the media glaze post trade
  8. It’s fine. It’s just going to lead to Caulfield bringing in a bunch of yahoo articles about demographic declines and city rankings
  9. K. While the cosplay negotiations were tedious, we aren’t going to start just doing city flame war stuff. That’s only allowed for st louis. There won’t be punishments, I’m just going to hide it because I’m sure there is a Reddit for that stuff you can all go to.
  10. Yeah. I think by April we’ll think he’s a first rounder then at the draft he’ll be a 2nd/3rd. Remember last year there were some Hendon Hooker to the Seahawks (at 18) rumors. The red flags and outlier age are a big thing. But his arm thing where the ball shoots out of a cannon right on target is pretty cool too. truth be told I liked hooker last year a lot. Maybe the “man among boys” is less of an issue for QB where mental reps and more reps vs pressure is still valuable.
  11. Meh, it’s not like he’s a pitcher. Good QBs play until they are 35+. But yes, the evals are all over the place on them. But McCarthys age + offense makes him great to try to develop.
  12. I’m sorta there…but with pick 2. Im actually kinda out on the “pick the QB you have conviction on”. If anything, bears are lucky they don’t have to do that (they aren’t trading up to get “their guy). If anything NFL evaluators should be more humbled on this whole process. What seems improbable now (Penix/mccarthy end up best QB in the class) is what happens quite often. But that’s not that weird…it also happens with other positions. Still think haul + top 3 receiver + penix mccarthy + keep fields is a fine idea but seems crazy.
  13. I think they can cut bait after this year though. speaking of Giants…man did Joe Schoen flub inheriting 2 top seven picks. Thibodeauxs pressure rate is like 92nd in the league and Evan Neal is awful at OT. The jets walked out of the same draft with Sauce Gardener and Garrett Wilson. Woof.
  14. Just imagine if Theo changes extra innings to being decided by what team can reach the highest shelf
  15. I like Lalane, just tried to put a package wasn’t sure about being too much. Seems we are in model UN again though. missed again!
  16. You actually checking heights is what makes you a better man
  17. They care about staying under the luxury tax penalties, yes.
  18. Obviously, I like Jones. I do think a deal that board would be horrified by that I would be excited by would be Hampton, Arias, Lombard and like Clayton Beeter. Usually turned off by the yanks prospects but after diving in…I admit they are interesting and good.
  19. Honestly for me this has been like being forced into watching a HS model UN group the last few weeks.
  20. What are the odds he does it 3 though! Gotta be like getting hit by lightning.
  21. https://www.dabearsblog.com/2024/the-bears-should-move-on-from-justin-fields There is a group of “data focused” bears bloggers. In general, when doing descriptive analytics on what’s happening they do a good job. Part of that is there is a good amount of data (each play as a data point). The second half of the article veers into something that annoys the hell out of me. And that’s the illusion of looking how previous drafts performed and acting like you now have a data informed prediction. So he is looking at what this draft means for the bears by looking at previous 1-2 QB drafts. So that gives him…9 examples over 50 years. That’s just really not anything to inform you. And a hard part about fields is while there are few examples of QBs breaking out in year four, there isn’t that many QBs in a relevant era to rule it out. Basically, stop showing me examples of like 8 data points and then being like “35% of that need up as pro bowlers” and acting like that is meaningful information. Live in the unknown of the draft. It is exciting and infuriating and it will consistently change your perceptions.
  22. I love how much game experience this QB class has. Im actually totally game for taking a QB with the second pick. To me that plays into the advantage of having two firsts, while acknowledging the difficulties of knowing which qb is best. Getting MHJ is enough of a win to boost this team, and I think a Penix/McCarthy are guys that can handle sitting. Fun fact Fields is only a year older than Penix. Cam Ward also announced he’s going pro. He’d be a great sit and develop guy too. He’s huge, reminds me of Balt having Snoop Huntley behind Fields. But could run a lot of the same running offense. Also…put this guy out there for your sneaks.
  23. I do wonder if last years trade being as big a disaster as it is will temper the enthusiasm for big trade ups. It didn’t work for San Fran. It didn’t work for Carolina. I think a smaller trade up from Wash/NE is more likely.
  24. I’m not so Harrison Jr or bust. Malik Nabers is also incredible. I’m less of an Odunze fan, but all three make up an awesome top of the class. If we do get second rounders, Ladd McConkey would be the exact type guy we are missing to round out the offense.
  25. I have no idea what they should do anymore…which is awesome. Yesterday was just incredible. The hard part with Fields to figure out is he’s still so explosive. He does push it downfield, or try to, he does have huge game changing runs. Usually when QBs are inconsistent they also are just boring. And so yesterday you see that and it’s hard not to think about just adding these big weapons. And yet it still hangs over how when the big plays are taken away…can he execute enough? I don’t really know, but it does feel painful to think about trading this guy away. I have been thinking about one combo that keeps fields but hedges…that would be JJ McCarthy. He seems like a good candidate to sit and develop, and wouldn’t be drafted high enough to be such a distraction. I also wonder if we could get Fields to sign a Jordan Love type deal in that scenario.
