Night 1 Notes from the GM Meetings
Ok this from are good friend Dayn Perry, I just found this stuff funny as he's giving out report cards for the offseason so far: This about the Dodgers: Great move in signing Furcal to below-market contract. This little part about Paul:Overpaid for Konerko ------------------------------------------------------- Then he cries a little bit about pods as usual but still gives us a B+. I Just found the parts about Furcal and Paul quite funny.

Night 1 Notes from the GM Meetings
QUOTE(JDsDirtySox @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 11:23 PM) That must be it. Maybe I am biased, but I think this is a DUMB Move by the Tribe. Why give more money to Hoffman than a younger more effective Bob Howry? Why not let the Cabrera kid (your closer of the future) try to close games... and use 8 million a year on a decent 1b/dh. Well...that's definitely a lot of money but I think Cleveland thinks they're ready to compete for a championship this year(though I don't) and having a rookie closer step in at the beginning of the year isn't exactly the best way to go about things if you want to win this year. The Bobby situation last year was a bit different cause he came onto the roster as the last man and earned the closer spot or atleast proved he was capable. Very much agreed though that it was a bad move to let Howry go.

Night 1 Notes from the GM Meetings
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 11:20 PM) Rosenthal has an article up that pretty much says Hoffman will be taking a physical on Tuesday/Wednesday. Three years, $21-24 -- does that sound right, JD? Wow, some nice money there for Trevor. Still a very solid pitcher, so a nice move for this year but it might bite them in the behind in a few years. So does Bradley play left next year for Oakland?

Night 1 Notes from the GM Meetings
QUOTE(JDsDirtySox @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 11:10 PM) 1. Hoffman close to signing a 3 year deal with the Tribe. Some are saying a physical could be taken as soon as tomorrow. 2. Milton Bradley has been traded to the A's for Kirk Saarloos and Minor Leaguer Mario Ramos. 3. The Padres are the only teaming currently interested in Nomar as an infielder. My guess is thats where he will end up. 4. The Washington Nationals are now getting in on the AJ Burnett bidding. These are some of the important notes I noticed tonight... what caught your eye. Is the Bradley thing official, JD? I thought it was still just a rumor.

Buehrle on US Team
I really don't like this thing. Might be entertaining but it's really meaningless to me. That said, for players especially from different countries this is going to be huge, meaning they're going to put more strain on their arms by how competitive they're going to be and that's what scares me. Well...nothing I can do about it so I wish Freddy, Mark, and Tad the best of luck in this.

CLE
QUOTE(Felix @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 09:13 PM) For some reason, I think this thread is meant to be green, but I'm not too sure I would hope so. Byrd is a solid pitcher but Millwood was flat out awesome for them. Howry and Wickman were also outstanding for the tribe last year, there is a good shot they will lose all three.

Angels & Sox looking at Crawford
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 09:10 PM) I should be reading. So far I've yet to read a page. Ya..well I have finals next week. By making this site, I credit you with the down fall of me, academically.

Angels & Sox looking at Crawford
QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 08:48 PM) Personally, I don't think there's a chance in hell Crawford will get traded. The guy I've long thought would be traded is Rocco, and the Red Sox could potentially be a great fit if they lose Damon. Why would the drays sign Rocco to a long term deal and then trade him?

Angels & Sox looking at Crawford
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 08:41 PM) Rick Hahn was already on the Score last week and said that the payroll would be in the upper $80 millions, so around $87-$88 million. I'm pretty sure he was saying that with all the moves already made on what it would be.

Angels & Sox looking at Crawford
QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 08:37 PM) Hey, I never predicted Giles to the Cubs. Also, I was one of the first people on here to predict there was no chance that Rowand would be on the Sox next year. More than any other team, I have better insight into the Tampa organization. They're not going to trade the second best chip in the organization (behind D. Young), to get anything less than stud prospects. You did predict Giles to the cubs, I remember that. You know I'm just giving you s*** for the sake of giving you s***, everyone makes bad predictions, that's the way baseball is.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 08:37 PM) I love Fathom, one the best posters here IMO. He knows that, and thats why I can give him crap about it. Him and I have had this convo before, he knows when I get a chance to take a shot at him, I'm going to. All in good fun of course.

QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 08:36 PM) I am just going off of what Bruce Levine and Mark Gonzales have said, which is around $85 million. We're already going to be over 85 and I still think there is a little flexibility remaining.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 08:29 PM) "I will be SHOCKED if Furcal DOESNT go to the Cubs"-Fathom, about 15 times during the offseason. You have been wrong before. (Im never going to let you live that down) Furcal to the cubs, giles to the cubs, carlos pena and nomar to the sox, Pauly to the Bosox. He hasn't been on his game this offseason.

ESPNews Reports
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 07:42 PM) Man a lot of you people seem to really think the Al is that much tougher than the NL. It really depends on the guy, I think for a lot of guys it's a huge factor but for some there is no effect at all. There are some guys who just cant pitch in the al but our studs in the nl, Jeff Suppan comes to mind. That being said, it's not that big of a deal for relief pitchers imo.

God, I would absolutely kill for Carl Crawford. Mccarthy is off limits though but if they wanted a package centering around Fields, um....hell ya.

Baseball Tonight
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 02:20 PM) And to be honest, its not there fault. I have never watched BBTN for White Sox news/highlights. During the regular season, they probably watched a total of 25-30 innings of White Sox baseball. These guys have to cover 25 teams(Im sure they didnt see an inning of the Rockies, Royals, ect.. and thats not that easy. Fact of the matter is, 95% know more about the Sox then these guys, plain and simple. If you take BBTN for what it is, getting highlights from the days action, and finding out about who went where, its a good program. That's a good point and I do watch bbtn every night during the season for highlights. Their analysts could do a little more though, atleast before they say somethign without knowing what they're talking about, they can take the time to research the subject a little bit. Like you said though, I watch bbtn for highlights, not for analysis.

QUOTE(JimH @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 02:15 PM) Well that does it, let's call off the 2006 season. These guys get dumber and dumber. Harold and John have never even heard of Brian Anderson, I'll almost guarantee you that. That's what makes everything they say so funny, that's the main beef I have with espn, their analysts just dont do any research.
