  1. QUOTE(ottawa_sox @ Apr 5, 2005 -> 04:46 PM) To my way of thinking, even his non-homerun, high average stretch of games, does not necessarily mean he was not thinking selfishly. He was 'seeing the ball' great and making solid contact. But he still might have gotten many hits through the left side, when the situation dictated going the other way. When you are on a roll and you hit the ball 'where it is pitched', then all the power to you. But sometimes you have to force it the other way to the detriment of your average. I am not saying this is what happened. I am just pointing out that statistics alone do not point to sefishness or otherwise. Oh, I agree. I'm not basing this on his stats but just the way he worked the ball all around the field, hitting line drives and not just trying to hit the ball out of the park. Punch and Judy, difference of opinion, agree to disagree
  2. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Apr 5, 2005 -> 04:18 PM) It's nto really fair to categorize Lee as a homer happy guy considering that by the end of his long hitting streak, he only had 4 hoemrs and it's not like he was hitting 218 That was the carlos lee i wish i saw all of his career. He was a GREAT hitter during that streak, cause he was using all directions of the field not overswinging, taking what was given to him. After that streak he went to walker saying he wanted to hit more homeruns, that's always bothered me. He started hitting his fair share of homeruns but he was back to popping up a lot of pitches and overswinging in key situations where he'd only care about hitting a homerun, that was always my biggest problem with carlos.
  3. QUOTE(Steff @ Apr 5, 2005 -> 03:59 PM) Club level is cushioned, no..? They're normal seats with 2 cushions on them. The scout seats are just all cushioned.
  4. QUOTE(TheBigHurt35 @ Apr 5, 2005 -> 01:19 PM) IIRC, wasn't Garcia's debut a Sunday Night game last year at MIN? And didn't we win that one? Maybe I'm wrong, but that's what I seem to recall. It wasn't a sunday game, I believe it was a wednesday game, might have been a thursday game, it was one of those two though.
  5. I personally love watching a team move a runner a long, lay down a bunt, hit a sac fly, etc. I'd rather watch that then see a ball fly out of the park. Personally I don't care how exciting it is or how they do it, I just want the sox to win, period.
  6. QUOTE(whitesoxin' @ Apr 4, 2005 -> 10:00 PM) Yeah man, I remember in 2000 when we got swept away by the M's I cried a lot. I was only in 6th grade at the time, but it still sucked. I couldn't imagine if it was the WS after having the greatest season in the history of the franchise. Also, after we lost this kid, a cubs fan, called me and rubbed it in my face that we lost. I didn't become friends with him again until this year. So yeah, I took that loss pretty hard. I almost decapitated(sp?) my friend after game 3, i had a football in my hand for some reason, seattle laid down that squeeze, i chucked the ball not knowing my friend was behind me, he got out of the way just in time. I then went into the bathroom and just starting crying, terrible day.
  7. QUOTE(qwerty @ Apr 4, 2005 -> 09:51 PM) This game>>>>>>>>>>>>>> one white sox game. Meh, not for me In all honesty if the sox lost game 7 of the world series after a great season I'd be crying me eyes out. I make that comparison cause I know for some of you the Illini are your number one team like the sox are for me. Like willie said some people live and die by there teams, I know I do with the sox and I know others do with this team.
  8. Illinois fans, I know you don't want to hear it now but you guys had a great season. I know it's hard but congrats on a great year. Palehose, it pains me to say this but congrats, I was wrong about unc all year, you guys just beat a great team, congrats, enjoy it.
  9. Illinois is going to win this game.
  10. I didn't go up to there but when I was outside the park I saw the race Scott Podsednik thing was functioning so that was atleast up, not sure about the rest.
  11. QUOTE(chi-guy2 @ Apr 4, 2005 -> 06:51 PM) also its about time we win an opening day game, what has it been 6 yrs or something Nope. We won in 01 and 02. EDIT: Just thinking back to that 02 win, the pitching matchup was Mark vs. Freddy.
  12. QUOTE(Hall of Famer @ Apr 4, 2005 -> 06:28 PM) There were some pretty major renovations to the park, correct? How did they look for those of whom got to go to the game? The Park looked fantastic. The fundamentals looked nice the scout seats were, everything about today was just nice. What a day!!!!!
  13. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Apr 4, 2005 -> 05:29 PM) I dont like the new intros either. What happened to Thunderstruck??? I'm with you guys, and they changed the song for shingo's entrance too, what the hell?? Well, that's my only complaint about the game, 162 and 0 baby
  14. I'm going to pick up my friend and I'm off to the cell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LETS GO SOX!!!!!!!!!

  16. QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Apr 4, 2005 -> 01:15 AM) Be cool, stay in school! Haha. There's no way I'm going to go to school now, I just can't sleep so I'm going to find some way to convince my mom to let me take the whole day off. I mean it's senior year anyways, means nothing And even if it did, I know my priorities, the sox are much more important then school.
  17. QUOTE(Leonard Zelig @ Apr 3, 2005 -> 11:58 PM) Opening Day is Today!!!!!!!!!! edit: it really is, they must not have changed the clocks yet Opening day is even closer now then it was when you posted that
  18. QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Apr 4, 2005 -> 01:05 AM) Anyone else think it is funny that the game thread for last year opening day was started 6 hours early and the one for this year was started over two months early? Haha, I love it. Can't wait for the game to start. 12 hours to go. I have to get up for school in 5 hours and I can't sleep, ugh. Oh well, I think I'm just going to try and convince my mom to let me take the whole day off instead of going for the first 3 periods.
  19. QUOTE(El Piervizdyeguchansodnik @ Apr 3, 2005 -> 09:40 PM) Welp, I'm officially pumped for tomorrow. I think I'm gonna have a hard time sleeping... :banghead Ha, i just said that to wharris. I'm not going to be able to sleep tonight, I really can't wait for tomorrow.
  20. Have a good one aboz.
  21. Opening Day is Tomorrow
  22. I'd never thought I'd ever say this but Go Illinois.
  23. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Apr 2, 2005 -> 12:06 AM) Meyer is gonna start at AAA... Oakland's 5th if gonna be Kirk Saarloos for now. Ya, I drafted Meyer in a keeper league, I thought he was worth the risk. Anyways I don't care how bad Meyer pitched in the spring, he's better then saarloos. Kirk will get creamed in the al.
  24. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2004 @ Apr 2, 2005 -> 03:27 PM) This is off topic. But did anybody see Harold Reynolds say the Cubs had the "best bullpen" in the nl central last night? I almost choked on my gum when he said that. LOL, I saw that too. Anyways, I don't agree with the jeckyll and hyde label for the whole staff, for Contreras--definitely but I think he's the only pitcher that works for.
