Saying the power lineup got us nowhere is just managements attempt to redirect the blame away from themselves for not getting the Sox better pitching. I don't agree with that at all. The chubbies (who supposedly have the best rotation in baseball) lost because they have a lineup that was too full of power and less able to create runs. Yes the 5th starter was a problem but it was by no means the only problem. This team wasn't going anywhere scoring 7 runs one game and then 2 the next three. The Cubs lost because they had s*** in their bullpen, not because of their lineup... They lost because of both. Their lineup pulled the same s*** that the sox has for the last couple of seasons. The cubs lineup last year was very simliar to the lineup the sox have had for the past couple of seasons. I dunno, I think the whole 'inconsistency' thing is a little bit overblown, but that's just me. I think Jackie hayes did a research thing on it (didn't know what else to call it), and really, our offense wasn't as consistent as people said it was. You cannot tell me, that had the Sox not had a capable fifth starter in 2003, that they would not have made the playoffs. Same goes for last year, but to a lesser extent -- obviously, even with an El Duque at the back of the rotation last season, it still would have been tough without Magglio and Big Hurt. Ahh.... 2003. The year that could have/should have been... Keith, I think we're just going to have to agree to disagree on this one and please don't mention 03

Saying the power lineup got us nowhere is just managements attempt to redirect the blame away from themselves for not getting the Sox better pitching. I completely disagree. The power filled lineup choked so many times in big games because if they weren't hitting homers they weren't scoring at all.
  4. QUOTE (greasywheels121 @ Jan 1, 2005 -> 01:03 AM) For whomever changed the board back to its original order...Thank you! I was just starting to get used to that way and it gets changed back, you guys are messing with my mind. Anyways I'm glad to see it back to the original way.

I hear ya but I honestly don't consider 2b a hole, sure we can definitely upgrade in that area but willie is at worst an average 2 bagger.

Kenny had a plan, there is no doubt about that and so far I think he's carrying it out quite nicely. We've filled 3 major holes going into the offseason within the bullpen, the starting rotation and having a leadoff guy. I still think Kenny has another move up his sleeve with a 2b. I hope we end up with aj but for some reason I just got a feeling we won't end up getting him. Either way I'd give this offseason a B so far and depending on what else Kenny does he can easily get an A.

I've already developed a hatred for Maggs no matter what team he goes to.
  8. I disagree with your whole post here. The reason they haven't won the series in a couple of years is they don't have the guys that know how to win anymore such as O'neil, Brosius and Tino(in his prime), clemens, Pettite, etc, instead now all they do is go for all superstars. Also I think Gagne is the best closer in baseball right now, but MO is still awesome.
  9. Garland isn't a question mark because we know exactly what we're getting from him. As far as El duque of course his health is a concern, I'm just saying when healthy there is no doubting his ability. Also I did happen to miss your disclaimer, sorry about that
  10. First off, Garland is anything but a question mark. The question surrounding el duque has nothing to do with his pitching ability it's just keeping him healthy. I also think it's utterly ridiculous for you to make a list of question marks we have because you can do that with any team.
  11. The sox aren't the most talented team in the baseball there is no doubt about that, however if they get into the playoffs with the pitching staff they have, they have a chance to make some noise, period.
  12. Right, that's what he's saying, after the dbacks get Navarro and Halsey they ship 'em off to L.A. for Green.
  13. Even though I do like Contreras it would obviously be a great deal if we traded Jose for Javier, however I'd rather keep Jose and get aj. I honestly think our rotation is going to be very, very good this year and add aj to that offense and we'd have a team that could compete with anyone, no joke.
  14. No need for that ace.
  15. That's honestly the worst nickname ever.
  16. That's my favorite part of the article. I still doubt we get either of these guys and end up with Cora, jmo.
  17. I should also try that.
  18. I'd bat Iguci 2nd, at worst I still think he has a higher obp then Juan will have with good speed and while I don't know this for sure I'd assume he's a good bunter, most of the japanese players seemed to be schooled well on fundamentals.
  19. I highly doubt we sign both even though I guess it is a possibility. I still doubt we even get one of them, I think we'll end up with Cora and call it an offseason and I wouldn't mind Alex either. You're right though if both were signed that would be one deep lineup.
  20. Thanks for the insight.

    I got 15 out of 20.
  22. The he pitched over 200 innnings his era was 4.12 while pitching in the american league is pretty good His career era is 3.96, if you have an era under 4 in the american league you're doing something right. Once again Millwood is not as good as Orlando and he's going to get paid far more then Hernandez. Lets pretend we went into the offseason having 2 open holes in the rotation, we've figured out we have a hard time winning any bidding wars, do you really have confidence we would have been able to find two starting pitchers on the market??
  23. Millwood is much worse then El duque, and Clement and Perez have and will come at a much higher rate then Hernandez. There is no doubt when El duque is healthy he's still a great pitcher. As far as contreras I think the sox have proven they can't win a bidding war with anyone so it is very unlikely they would have got Pavano. I see your concern with Jose but personally I feel like he'll have a very solid year but I guess we just have to wait and see.
  24. Man, I remember those howry for gagne rumors. I remember I really wanted that trade to happen because I thought Eric was going to be a great starter
