QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 04:30 PM) The fact Punk-Lesnar wasn't even nominated is a miscarriage of justice. Well the Bellas won diva of the year and Rock-Cena won match of the year, the slammys are just another storyline building tool or a way to put over their mainstreamness.

Sox acquire Adam Eaton from ARZ, deal Santiago, Jacobs

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 04:49 PM) I'm fine with the Santiago for Eaton idea but what I'm not fine with is management's idea that this is our big move. (KW said this will definitely excite fans) We've made a big move, in fact, you're our big move. -

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 04:06 PM) Yup. Exactly. Somehow the Sox have skipped the whole "development" process and picked up three core pieces ready to take swings in the bigs on Opening Day. Well that's of course if Eaton and Abreu don't suck. I don't know why we're comparing ourselves to the Cubs but lets not get ahead of ourselves. -

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 03:59 PM) My problem with that is that Quintana made the leap as a 23 year old. Santiago is going to be 26 next year and hasn't had the break through yet. He hasn't really been given a chance. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 03:59 PM) While also having to build his stamina during the year because of the dumb decision by the Sox heading into the season? Santiago has a pretty high ceiling, IMO. A much higher ceiling than the likes of Rienzo. Yes. -

QUOTE (southside hitman @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 03:52 PM) Santiago could never be a #2. I am sorry, he's a great competitor on the mound and does well for his tools but he's not a frontline starter. He's a solid rotation member who will eat innings. I think Paulino, if healthy, can duplicate what Santiago could do. We got tremendous value for Santiago if Eaton comes back healthy and comes close to doing what he's done consistently in the minors. And this is a point of view I don't understand. Hector has a good enough arm to be a #2, not saying he's going to get there cause he does have a lot to work on but he definitely can. -

I haven't read the whole thread but besides B>W have people really been that pissy about this? For me this is the ultimate wait and see, I could see it from both gm's perspectives. -

QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 03:37 PM) Right, but we're trading a low ceiling pitcher for a high ceiling player. Who helps in the various areas of need that will matter in '15, '16 etc. When you hold onto tons of pitching depth in a bad year, you sink an asset just by waiting til that inevitable arm injury. Holding onto too much starting pitching without having anything else on your team = not good. Those assets are the ones more likely to depreciate due to wear and tear. This would all be different if we were a good team right now, with a healthy farm system. That is not the case. If you go on about Santiago being 'mishandled' (as if pitchers MLB-wide dont go through the same kind of things when they're not 'special')............then why can't i bring in Eaton's UCL situation as well? we can go on about those things and uncover excuses left and right. Calling Santiago low ceiling is wrong. -

We're not getting a prospect but we're giving one, that's confirmed now. -

I'm going to take the wait and see approach on this. I don't love it or hate it on paper. Hahn definitely had the right idea with this deal, just not sure if Eaton is the right guy. -
So the stupid slammy awards got me thinking about match of the year. For me it was Punk-Lesnar followed by Punk-Cena on raw and Bryan-Ceasaro on raw. What do you guys think?

QUOTE (wardo @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 02:49 AM) Don't think the return for Sale would net as much as we'd like to think. Realistically I think Sale could net something like this Cubs acquire: Chris Sale White Sox acquire: Jeff Samardzija, Jorge Soler, low level pitching prospect If that's the case which I highly doubt it is then you simply don't trade him. Not too difficult.

Ya that was pretty great. Teases everywhere.

QUOTE (Jake @ Dec 9, 2013 -> 10:03 PM) Jeffery might be the best WR on this team. Also, I see no need for Jay Cutler on this team. At some point, the way this team is playing w/ McCown stops being a fluke. Even 2 weeks ago I would have said you're nuts but...

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 9, 2013 -> 04:23 PM) This would be about the absolute worst, worst, worst thing you could do if you are going to trade Chris Sale. You need to load up on prospects if you trade him. Adam Dunn is a free agent after this year and John Danks is still a good pitcher who was in his first year back from injury. What are you going to spend that money on anyways? Maybe you can do that with Santiago or Quintana and get away with it, but it's just not smart to do with Sale. This, so much this.

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Dec 9, 2013 -> 05:10 PM) Been to 4, won all of them, it's an amazing atmosphere. Just have to walk by tons of homeless-looking people wearing Mizzou gear on the way in. Bandwagon fan. -
QUOTE (raBBit @ Dec 9, 2013 -> 02:40 PM) The only thing that makes me consider trading Sale is if we got a guy like Archie Bradley in return and he pans out. There is a decent chance the trade is worthwhile. Bradley becomes the ace he can definitely can be and Sale gets injured we win the trade right there. Plus the other 4-7 assets we get. Surely a big if, but that's where my head is at right now. Would have to be a monster package with Bradley included. Bradley is just as likely to get hurt as Chris and obviously he hasn't proven anything yet.
-
QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Dec 9, 2013 -> 12:39 PM) I've got to tell you boys...If we clean out Arizona's system, it would completely accelerate the trajectory of our franchise. If the package included ALL of the names you mentioned above, I would make the deal in a heartbeat. Maybe or they all bust except one who becomes an average major league but nothing close to Chris. Obviously impossible to project that's why trading him is so damn risky.

Sale to the Diamonbacks for the Diamondbacks?

QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Dec 9, 2013 -> 09:46 AM) Random rant: how the hell is Denver 12-8? Their best player is Lawson (solid, but probably not an All-star out west) and their second best is....Faried? Chandler? I don't even know. I thought this would be a diaster season until Gallinari returned, instead they're pretty good. Nate Robinson is the best person in the world?

QUOTE (Baron @ Dec 9, 2013 -> 07:50 AM) Apparently he is looking for a 3 year deal Then no.

As long as the move doesn't break the bank, go for it. This team isn't going anywhere might as well add some reason to watch.

Yay! Kinda.

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Dec 8, 2013 -> 05:59 PM) At my current rate, I'll reach 25,000 posts by the time I'm 60 years old. I'm 25 right now... I swear you post more than your count says. I got a ton of posts but I go on my spurts of posting a lot and rarely posting. I think post the least amount during baseball season, oddly enough.
