Hawk is a Ford Frick finalist
I've said this like 100 times but I love the guy but he's absolutely awful at his job at the moment.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 2, 2013 -> 01:43 PM) Their two toughest games are going to be the Pats and the Texans. I think Peyton shreds through the Chiefs defense and they win both by double digits. They'll lose two at least, write that down. But as always, NO ONE CARES ABOUT REAL FOOTBALL!!!! My decision this week is whether to play James Jones or Tony Gonzalez as my flex. I'm leaning towards Jones.

Job Hunt Thread
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Oct 1, 2013 -> 03:22 PM) I just got an interview request for less than 20 hours from now? Uh, is that normal? I'm not the least bit prepared and haven't had an interview in a long time. I think I'll just turn it down. Seems kind of ridiculous. If it's a good job just go for it. If you bomb the interview oh well, better than not taking the shot.

*Official* Work Out Thread
QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 1, 2013 -> 05:46 AM) So, I'm running my first 5K in 2 weeks. I've never been a distance runner, so this should be fun... You'll be fine. 5k is "easy" enough to power through even if you've never been a distance runner.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Oct 1, 2013 -> 12:31 PM) So somebody could watch 14 hours of nearly-continuous football Sunday. I say nearly-continuous because depending on how long games run, there is usually about a 30 minute window between the end of the late afternoon games and the Sunday night game. If this was 4 years ago and I was still in college, I would love this late start but now it makes me angry.

2013 TV Thread
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Oct 1, 2013 -> 12:03 PM) I don't really see it as a "Walt wins" situation, at all. He lost his family, had to say goodbye to the daughter that cannot even understand him/will never know him, and he wasn't even able to say goodbye to his son, or explain anything to him. He also admitted that as Heisenberg, he was 'alive', and liked life, while in contrast to his former self, who he didn't even like being. I don't think it was as clean as people are saying. It tied up loose ends, but the ending was tragic, and what happened to everyone in his life along the way was also tragic. From the beginning, Walt was dead, either way, either from cancer or from this. This took his family from him, and his image to his family. It killed numerous people, etc... How anyone claims this was a win, or clean, I don't think is really thinking about it. This story was classically a retelling that the road to hell is paved with good intentions. Ya, I'm with you on this. I've read a few places that Walt "won" and I don't see that at all.

QUOTE (knightni @ Oct 1, 2013 -> 08:07 AM) The Wild Card game needs to be a best of three series. Why? It makes perfect sense to do it the way they're doing it.

Offseason Prospect Rankings Thread
QUOTE (Jake @ Sep 30, 2013 -> 09:59 PM) Semien doesn't have unreal tools and had a relatively quick rise from okay prospect that was a possible utility guy to a guy that was hitting like a legit top of the order hitter. Makes sense that there would be some pause. It's not like he came out of no where though, he's hit at every level.

One move...
QUOTE (scs787 @ Sep 30, 2013 -> 03:22 PM) I'm kinda surprised there isn't anyone giving Beckham the benefit of the doubt. I mean he was batting in the .320s before his wrist flared up in July. I'm not saying I'm not down with replacing him with Semien I'm just surprised to see no one make this point. There's certainly a case to be made for Gordons return. I think we're all done giving Gordon the benefit of the doubt. He's been around for a good amount of time now and besides his initial season, he's been terrible at the plate.

Trade season approaching
Johnson and Semien, that's it(assuming we're not considering Avi a prospect anymore). Those two should be starters in 2014 and shouldn't be going anywhere.

One move...
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 30, 2013 -> 01:39 PM) What if the Sox signed Abreu and McCann and traded Santiago and something for Lawrie. How would the team stack up at that point? As bad as this team seems, a couple of hitters, guys like Viciedo, Garcia and/or Beckham stepping up, and they are a pretty good team again. Beckham is never going to step up, that's almost a done deal at this point. Hahn is going to have to make some slick moves but with the current rotation and globs on money that the Sox have, it's not unthinkable that they could be a good team next year.

Your Realistic 2014 Lineup
While I certainly understand the concern with Hector's control, we also have to remember that this is a guy who has been jerked around the last few years by this organization. Once he finds his comfort zone as a starter he might very well harnass his control a bit. Obviously there's a possibility that he wont as well but I'm certainly willing to give him that chance before I decide that he's a completely wild pitcher.

One move...
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 30, 2013 -> 11:56 AM) Personally, I think the position Semien needs to play this year is 2B. I'm done with Beckham. He needs to be playing a MI spot, whether it's 2b or ss I don't really care.

QUOTE (Jake @ Sep 28, 2013 -> 09:23 AM) What a joke. What should Sweum be fired for? For not losing enough? He was always just a transitional manager. I don't think he actually did anything that deserves a firing but it was always going to be this way.

What Does Pence Re-Signing Mean For Sox
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Sep 30, 2013 -> 09:35 AM) De Aza works out to be an average Major Leaguer. Look at his numbers -- this year is no different. An average Major Leaguer at arbitration price on a team with 100 losses is nothing to shake a stick at. You guys are crazy. Yup, I completely agree. I get the frustration with De Aza as he was annoying as hell this year but the guy is not a bad baseball player. To just trade him for nothing or non tender him would be stupid.
