  1. QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 4, 2008 -> 09:13 AM) It was also a team coming off of a horrid second half. 42 and 34 the 2nd half of 05.
  2. Comparing this team to the 05 team just isn't fair. That 05 team was one of the best teams EVER, some people still don't understand that apparently. This team is definitely struggling right now but I still believe that we're the best team in this division. If(huge freaking if) Vaz can some how get back to pitching like he did in April and May then I think we'd have at least a shot to make some noise in the playoffs. If he doesn't then I think we're one and done, but lets get there and hope some things fall in place.
  3. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 4, 2008 -> 03:45 AM) Oh yeah, I forgot Dye was an absolute stud from the second half on last year. His season last year is a perfect example as to why you don't give up on a hitter who has been good for, you know, like 10 years with perhaps another bad year mixed in there just because they struggle for a while battling injuries, especially at lowest value. I'm so damn glad the Red Sox didn't trade for him last year. And to answer the question, that is probably one of the best free agent signings of the past 10 or 15 years, everything considered. OPS over 1 in 06, going to have an ops over .900 this year and oh ya there was that whole World Series MVP thing. He's done ok.

    Step Brothers was quite funny.
  5. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 01:41 PM) Don't see how this deal is bad for the Sox, unless you don't like the fact that Paulie will be getting benched. If you just look at the deal itself it's not horrible because we didn't give up a ton. That being said, if Griffey is starting in cf then we're hurting our team defense a great deal imo, not to mention if he's out there, the odds of him getting hurt again are probably pretty high. Hopefully we catch lightning in a bottle, but I don't think this deal makes us a better team at all.
  6. I can't believe how much praise the Tigers get from some on this site. Detroit's a .500 team, nothing better.
  7. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 03:49 PM) Defense doesn't win championships, balance does. Amazing that a top 2 defensive team ALWAYS wins the championship.
  8. QUOTE (Texsox @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 09:21 AM) While and improvement, it isn't like we're trotting an All-Star replacement out there. If that was the case, the decision would have been easier. 'Tis the truth but with the way the pitching has been lately, it certainly wont hurt to have your best defense out there and Anderson might just be the best defensive cf in the AL.
  9. Just get Ben Gordon off my team and I'll be happy. Lots of money for Deng, yes, but it needed to be done. Happy to have him in the fold for a while.
  10. QUOTE (jeffthedude @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 08:56 AM) I obviously don't contribute on here but that sounds about right. The deluded homer optimism on these fan sites is amazing. Just look at what the Sox are! Steve Stone said just the other day on the Score morning show that the Sox are an 86-87 win team. There's no shame in that. The question has always been, is the division so bad it can be won by an 86-win team, or is it better than that? And now it is completely clear the Twins are better than that, and better than us. They play a less challenging schedule than we do from here on out. If someone else saw a playoff team out there the past couple days, I'd like to know what game you were watching. The Sox need to drop the old, ineffective deadweight off this team and start stocking good young players for the future. The cupboard looks pretty bare right now. I'm not a negative fan. I follow the Sox for the fun of it, not just for the hope they will make the playoffs. They won't this year. Riiiiiiiiiiight. If the Twins are so clearly better than us then how come we're still leading the division? Also, no one gets banned for being negative and if you don't think the Sox are going to win the division then that's fine but to jump ship on a first place team when we're nearing August is quite ridiculous.
  11. Always fun to bail out on a first place team when it's almost August.
  12. QUOTE (RME JICO @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 08:07 PM) This is a nice deal for the Angels, but it is not like their offense was that great to begin with. 19th in the MLB in runs? 23rd in OPS? Not very impressive. Tex will help, but it seems like their record is somewhat misleading. 65-40, yet they only have a +39 run differential. Something has to give. Good bullpen, my friend.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 07:48 PM) I think the Cubs would pound the Angels in that match-up. Go figure.
  14. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 05:05 PM) It makes all the sense in the world for the Angels, but I think the Braves did well for themselves given what Tex really was worth to the Braves, which was two draft picks. Completely agree.
  15. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 05:03 PM) Not that big of a difference between the two of them so far this year. At least not enough for a rent a player. Um, there's a pretty big difference between them this year. Also, why are people assuming that Tex is a rent a player for the Angels? Good, good chance they re-sign him.
  16. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 03:59 PM) Sounds like it's Kotch and Stephen Marek, who is having a pretty decent season as a RP. Obviously the Halos have a great shot at the World Series, so it's totally understandable, but I'm a big Kotchman fan, so this is a pretty decent return for the Braves, IMO. I like Kotchman too but a left handed power bat is what the Angels have seemingly been missing forever now. This is a team that is loaded with pitching and now they have some decent pop in the middle of the order. IMO this definitely makes them the team to beat in the entire Major Leagues.
  17. Well I think it's safe to say that this makes the Angels the team to beat.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 01:20 PM) The correct answers are South Park and definitly Scrubs. I couldn't hate you any more.
  19. I dare someone to find a better place than Carbondale. Not gonna happen.
  20. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 26, 2008 -> 09:16 PM) 27 HR, 78 RBI, 73 R, .282/.384/.556/.940 - 3 23 HR, 64 RBI, 64 R, .314/.371/.575/.946 - 4 19 HR, 57 RBI, 55 R, .257/.385/.511/.896 - 5 That'll work.
  21. QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 26, 2008 -> 09:12 PM) I think they are just a bunch of big asses. They're just not that good. We're putting the final touches on their season tomorrow.
  22. QUOTE (Nokona @ Jul 26, 2008 -> 09:07 PM) Tigers can only be at best 6.5 back tomorrow We're sweeping 'em.
