  1. October 26, 2005... " A groundball passed jenks, up the middle of the infield, Uribe has it, he throws, OUT OUT, a White Sox Winner and a World Championship."
  2. Hudson is a name that really intrigues me. Yes he had a down year but he's been one of the better pitchers in baseball for a while now and I definitely think he'll bounce back.
  3. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Oct 25, 2006 -> 07:28 PM) Pre-season prediction/projections coming out... For the Big East predictions, most have Marquette finishing anywhere in that 3-6 range. Not that they mean much, but it's fun for discussional purposes. Collegehoops.net has your Eagles at 27. They've got to the top 20 and still no SIU, meaning we're going to be in the top 19. Like you said, means absolutely nothing but it's fun to look at and discuss.
  4. http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb...sp&c_id=cws Pretty good article. I especially like this quote from Lance: "If I get my shot for the White Sox, I'll find a way to get the job done. That's what good pitchers do."
  5. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Oct 25, 2006 -> 03:21 PM) Technically speaking it seems attitude is the big reason the Mets are open to getting rid of him. I've also seen him make some horrible mistakes in the field, but thats totally understandable considering he's a rookie. The question is how much of the attitude is because he's in NY. Either way I'll take Mike Pelfrey. If we want to go young in LF we have Sweeney or Fields. Pelfrey dominated AA in his 12 games, pitched well in his only AAA game and while he's been rushed he has front of the rotation stuff and was able to get his feet wet at the major league level part of last season. I'd take Pelfrey as well and it's not even close for me. But as far as Milledge goes can I ask why the attitude concerns? Cause I remember him getting fined(I believe) for high fiving some fans after a homer but what exactly has he done wrong? Honest question, cause I really don't remember.
  6. QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Oct 25, 2006 -> 03:03 PM) ND scored a TD to make the score 27-20 with a little over 5 minutes left and then OSU on their next drive scored a TD. Gracias, that's what I thought.
  7. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Oct 25, 2006 -> 02:50 PM) I thought at one point we recovered a fumble or something (only to have it reviewed and over-turned) or had a TD come back that could have tied it and than OSU instead shut the door. But if ND wasn't outclassed speed wise in the secondary it would have been more of a game. However, it was the type of game that even when it got close I really didn't think ND would win. But thats cause OSU was clearly the 3rd best team in the country. However that OSU team is probably national champs most years, but it just happened that two of the best teams in college history both happened to appear in 05 (Texas and USC). You might be right. I just remember feeling that ND never really had a shot.
  8. QUOTE(He_Gawn @ Oct 25, 2006 -> 02:39 PM) Blown out again? it was 34-20 and Notre Dame had the ball with under 5 minutes left and had a chance to tie the game. But they didnt and OSU scored with a minute left. Thats far from a blowout. IIRC ND scored with about 5 minutes left to get the game within a td. So ya, blowout wasn't the appropiate term to use here but irrc they never actually had a chance to tie the game up.
  9. QUOTE(Steff @ Oct 25, 2006 -> 02:06 PM) Yes.. what Jackie said.. :rolleyes Hell, I'm not going to give you or Gage any credit. I was going to jump into the whole argument but I just decided to stay out of it. I'm almost positive you guys are correct, I just can't find anything to back it up at the moment.
  10. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 25, 2006 -> 01:59 PM) This is the key here. If this is indeed true (and I just don't remember seeing it) then we have our answer, and can end this nonsense finally. Does anyone have a link that actually said the Yankees are required by MLB to pass along this money if Alex leaves NYY? I haven't been able to find a link but I'm 95 percent sure that what Jackie said is correct.
  11. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Oct 25, 2006 -> 01:46 PM) Maybe it's his WS numbers I'm thinking of, or his BA w/RISP in the WS stat that I'n thinking of. ARod has never played in the World Series.
  12. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Oct 25, 2006 -> 12:03 PM) Exactly Albeit it I think Florida is hands down a better team than ND. I think Florida is the 3rd best team in the country. But Tennessee is not better. Tennessee would rock your Irish senor Gage.
  13. ND once again is a joke of a top 10 team. They're going to lose to USC, get their bcs game and get blown out again. Same crap as last year.
  14. The Tigers have had a great season and I think they'll still win this series but so far their play has been embarrassing.
  15. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Oct 24, 2006 -> 09:04 PM) I know this guy is supposedly great and all that, but I have no interest in spending a total of 80 or 90 millon between posting fee and general deal for a guy that has never thrown a pitch over here. What if he's Kaz Matsui part 2? He won't be.
  16. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 10, 2006 -> 07:37 PM) Boras. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 24, 2006 -> 07:04 PM) Boras to represent Japanese pitching star Matsuzaka
  17. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Oct 24, 2006 -> 04:03 PM) what about his glove? or under the bill of his special hat that is all black? Did you look in there? They didn't check that? Like I said, I didn't get to watch the game so I'm only going off of what I heard. I assumed when they made him wash his hand off they checked that stuff out. If not then maybe I just shouldn't comment on this.
  18. I didn't get to watch the game as I was driving back to school but from my understanding the umps had him wash his hand during the 2nd inning, is this correct? If so, I don't think it's a huge deal. Yes, Rogers is a moron for making this stuff visible and using it but he was still dominating afterwards. I guess the one beef is that he should have been ejected but like I said he was still pitching real well so it's not like the stuff was effecting his performance.
  19. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 24, 2006 -> 12:55 PM) The White Sox with 5 right handers in its rotation > the White Sox with a lefty for 2007 who walks away because someone offers Buehrle a better deal in the offseason (thus leaving the Sox, you guessed it, 4 righties in their rotation, 5 if Garcia is somehow kept). Buehrle's contract situation should be the overriding thread from which all decisions about the pitching staff are spun. I personally couldn't care less if we have 5 righties, 5 lefites or 5 guys who throw with their feet, as long as they're quality starting pitchers. Like I said before though, Mark is the last starter I want to trade besides Brandon. I think he's the most likely to rebound but obviously his contract has become a huge issue now. I am really interested to see what starter goes in this offseason, cause I honestly think you could make a decent case for all of them(the starting 5 from 06).
  20. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Oct 24, 2006 -> 12:47 PM) Still I think as a whole we both agree on the fact that this rotation isn't near as bad as many people say it is. Yes it sucked this year, but players have off years and statistically speaking our guys are better than they produced. Oh ya, that I definitely agree on. The rotation will be better next season, there is no doubt in my mind there, it's just going to be interesting to see who we trade to make a spot for Brandon and what we get back.
  21. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Oct 24, 2006 -> 12:10 PM) Pretty much agreed completely. Jon was huge from about mid-June to September, but he always mixed in atleast one awful start every month, and occasionally two or three. It's really hard arguing for any White Sox starter this year. They all pretty much sucked ass. I'm definitely excited about this rotation come next year though. No real reason why, just a quiet feeling of confidence I have that this rotation will bounce back something amazing next year. If Contreras stays healthy, he's going to be good(and all we as fans can do is hope)...I gotta hunch Buehrle's going to come back stronger than ever, Garland will be solid again, Vazquez will be comfortable, seeing as how he's not being traded in an offseason since 2002, and then there's McCarthy(who you and I both like a lot). There still aren't many rotations in baseball that I'd trade ours with going into next season. I'm fairly confident Mark will be back, Jon I'm not so sure about, his 06 season is too much like 01-04 for me to have confidence in him. You know how I feel about Brandon and as much as Vaz pissed me off last year, it did seem like he turned a corner and can at least be a solid starter for us next season. Contreras to me is the most interesting pitcher we have right now, if he's completely healthy I believe he's one of the best pitchers in baseball. On the other hand can you count on a 300 year old pitcher to be completely healthy? And we saw this year how he's a completely different pitcher even when he's a bit banged up. Freddy I just want gone, split finger or not I have absolutely 0 confidence in him. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Oct 24, 2006 -> 12:36 PM) I actually have a lot of faith of most of our guys coming back and I wouldn't cringe if we kept our 5 guys. The only reason I'm for moving one of the guys (and only one of them, preferably Contreras or Buehrle) is because of the value I think we could get for them (that could help us fill a couple other wholes while giving us front line talent) and that it opens up a spot for McCarthy who is capable and deserves to be our 5th guy. Aside from that I would not deal Garland/Vaz. Count is so old I wouldn't be against it if we got some top notch stuff in return and well Buerhle could be a tough resign so I don't have a problem with that. As far as Freddy goes, I'd move him if we got value for him or were able to make that Arod trade, although I think he's going to rebound quite nicely. I think this is the first baseball related topic we've completely disagreed on.
  22. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Oct 24, 2006 -> 10:55 AM) You're absolutely correct, putting up 4 months with an ERA below 4 just absolutely sucks balls. For comparison sake, Garland only did that twice. I bring up Jon because once again he had a very average season yet it seems like everyone thinks he was fantastic last season cause he had two really good months. He also had two brutal months and two average months. He was not very good at all last year.
  23. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Oct 23, 2006 -> 04:06 PM) Thanks for giving me a brutal flashback. We're together on this one. I think I still got that freakin song in my head.
  24. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Oct 23, 2006 -> 04:53 PM) I don't know the Thomas quote you're referring to, but the rest is flat wrong. In this article, Chavez, Kotsay, Zito, Kendall, and Haren all have uncomplimentary things to say about Macha. That's not even mentioning Melhuse's comments. I know a lot of people here despise Beane, but using this to tee off on him is ridiculous. No one should use this directly. But like I said before I think a lot of us have known for a while that Beane pretty much calls the shots or at least wants to and it's not the easiest place to manage.
  25. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Oct 23, 2006 -> 11:05 AM) Looks like I landed a job with the Daily Herald sports department. That's awesome man, congrats.
