  1. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Oct 24, 2006 -> 12:47 PM) Still I think as a whole we both agree on the fact that this rotation isn't near as bad as many people say it is. Yes it sucked this year, but players have off years and statistically speaking our guys are better than they produced. Oh ya, that I definitely agree on. The rotation will be better next season, there is no doubt in my mind there, it's just going to be interesting to see who we trade to make a spot for Brandon and what we get back.
  2. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Oct 24, 2006 -> 12:10 PM) Pretty much agreed completely. Jon was huge from about mid-June to September, but he always mixed in atleast one awful start every month, and occasionally two or three. It's really hard arguing for any White Sox starter this year. They all pretty much sucked ass. I'm definitely excited about this rotation come next year though. No real reason why, just a quiet feeling of confidence I have that this rotation will bounce back something amazing next year. If Contreras stays healthy, he's going to be good(and all we as fans can do is hope)...I gotta hunch Buehrle's going to come back stronger than ever, Garland will be solid again, Vazquez will be comfortable, seeing as how he's not being traded in an offseason since 2002, and then there's McCarthy(who you and I both like a lot). There still aren't many rotations in baseball that I'd trade ours with going into next season. I'm fairly confident Mark will be back, Jon I'm not so sure about, his 06 season is too much like 01-04 for me to have confidence in him. You know how I feel about Brandon and as much as Vaz pissed me off last year, it did seem like he turned a corner and can at least be a solid starter for us next season. Contreras to me is the most interesting pitcher we have right now, if he's completely healthy I believe he's one of the best pitchers in baseball. On the other hand can you count on a 300 year old pitcher to be completely healthy? And we saw this year how he's a completely different pitcher even when he's a bit banged up. Freddy I just want gone, split finger or not I have absolutely 0 confidence in him. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Oct 24, 2006 -> 12:36 PM) I actually have a lot of faith of most of our guys coming back and I wouldn't cringe if we kept our 5 guys. The only reason I'm for moving one of the guys (and only one of them, preferably Contreras or Buehrle) is because of the value I think we could get for them (that could help us fill a couple other wholes while giving us front line talent) and that it opens up a spot for McCarthy who is capable and deserves to be our 5th guy. Aside from that I would not deal Garland/Vaz. Count is so old I wouldn't be against it if we got some top notch stuff in return and well Buerhle could be a tough resign so I don't have a problem with that. As far as Freddy goes, I'd move him if we got value for him or were able to make that Arod trade, although I think he's going to rebound quite nicely. I think this is the first baseball related topic we've completely disagreed on.
  3. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Oct 24, 2006 -> 10:55 AM) You're absolutely correct, putting up 4 months with an ERA below 4 just absolutely sucks balls. For comparison sake, Garland only did that twice. I bring up Jon because once again he had a very average season yet it seems like everyone thinks he was fantastic last season cause he had two really good months. He also had two brutal months and two average months. He was not very good at all last year.
  4. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Oct 23, 2006 -> 04:06 PM) Thanks for giving me a brutal flashback. We're together on this one. I think I still got that freakin song in my head.
  5. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Oct 23, 2006 -> 04:53 PM) I don't know the Thomas quote you're referring to, but the rest is flat wrong. In this article, Chavez, Kotsay, Zito, Kendall, and Haren all have uncomplimentary things to say about Macha. That's not even mentioning Melhuse's comments. I know a lot of people here despise Beane, but using this to tee off on him is ridiculous. No one should use this directly. But like I said before I think a lot of us have known for a while that Beane pretty much calls the shots or at least wants to and it's not the easiest place to manage.
  6. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Oct 23, 2006 -> 11:05 AM) Looks like I landed a job with the Daily Herald sports department. That's awesome man, congrats.
  7. QUOTE(SnB @ Oct 23, 2006 -> 09:14 AM) i seriously told you so. I was waiting for your comment. It was late and I was real tired and spacing out. Usually, I'm looking all over for cops but because I was out of it, I wasn't. Thankfully I didn't get hit going that fast.
  8. QUOTE(retro1983hat @ Oct 23, 2006 -> 09:15 AM) I'll offer mine, just because. Paulie - A- Iguchi- B /please learn to bunt Uribe - C- /he gone Crede - B+ AJ - B+ /production fell off end of year Thome - A- /again 2nd half numbers Pods - D+ /get on base and steal that's his job Anderson D Dye - A Buehrle - D / Waaaaaaayyyy too many early inninng runs Jose Contreras - B Garland - A Freddie - B / stepped up late Vaz - C Brandon - C Jenks - A- / faltered late Riske - C MacDougal - B / was impressive in his short stint here Cotts - D Thornton - B- Cintron - B Gload - B / never minded when G-Load was in lineup Ozuna - B+ / was a huge lift early in year Mack - C Oz - C / too many distractions - not enough wins Cora - C Walker - C Cooper - C- Your starting pitcher grades confuse me, especially Jon and Freddy who should be closer to C's and D's respectively.
  9. QUOTE(greg775 @ Oct 23, 2006 -> 02:18 AM) Since there are so few posts early in this offseason. Here are my grades for the Sox as to how they performed this past season. Please add yours. I will not include all the Sox. Paulie - A Iguchi- B plus. Uribe - C Crede - A AJ - A minus. Thome - A Pods - C-minus, D plus Anderson C-minus. Dye - A plus. Buehrle - C minus. Jose Contreras - B Garland - B Freddie - C Vaz - C Brandon - C minus Jenks - A Riske - C minus MacDougal - C Cotts - D Thornton - C Cintron - C Gload - C Ozuna - C Mack - C. I am not high on our bench. Oz - B (we did win 90 games) Cora - D Walker - C Cooper - C minus Needs for next year: Get rid of Pods; upgrade there. Need bullpen overhaul Let Brandon start; trade one of the starters to make room for him How does Bobby get an A yet Mac and Thornton get C's?
  10. So I got my first ever speeding ticket today coming back to school down 57.
  11. I haven't seen a game of high school football this year so I'll just assume that Stevenson will win 8A.
  12. QUOTE(3 BeWareTheNewSox 5 @ Oct 22, 2006 -> 11:50 AM) He should blame the owners, I am no Beane fanboy, but he consistently puts playoff teams together with a meh payroll Well I'm not going to get into the whole Beane argument again but as far as this stuff goes, from what I've heard/read it definitely seems like Beane calls the shots there no matter what and the manager is just a puppet.
  13. He was one of the best hitters in baseball last season and he's going to make a whole 6 million dollars this season. Not happening.
  14. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Oct 22, 2006 -> 09:26 AM) Well, the best the Tigers can do in the postseason now is 11-2. What a bunch of losers, eh? ^^^ What the Sox did last season was just ridiculous. The end.

  16. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Oct 22, 2006 -> 12:42 AM) I love my late night talks with row.
  17. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Oct 22, 2006 -> 12:18 AM) I agree. The only team to hold the #2 team in the country under 300 yards this season sucks ass. Correct. Well I've seen them play in person and I've watched almost all of there games this season and they really are bad. They also haven't beat a decent team yet this season.
  18. If the Cards were going to win a game I thought it'd be this one. I expect Detroit to win the next 4.
  19. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Oct 20, 2006 -> 12:03 AM) Hillarious. What a great find, you rock.
  20. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Oct 20, 2006 -> 12:43 AM) Ah, the Tigers winning the World Series prediction makes sense now. Rowand, please bet on the White Sox next year. Even if I wanted to bet on the Sox, I never could due to superstition/jinxing stuff. And yes, I really did believe the Tigers would win the World Series at the start of the playoffs, and obviously I still believe that now.
  21. Boo, I posted this in the flying under the radar in the sportspub and it got no responses. But seriously, that article is really funny.
  22. Congrats to the Cards but at most I see them winning one game, and I see CardsJimEdmonds15 lurking in this thread so I'm sure he'll have something to say. Congrats to you, but I just think the Tigers are the superior team. As for that Endy play, given the context of the game, easily one of the best plays ever. Like Tony said though, I honestly couldn't care less about these playoffs but I guess I will root for the Tigers because of the fact that I have 20 bucks on them to win it all.
  23. QUOTE(ptatc @ Oct 19, 2006 -> 01:52 PM) McCarthy will not be our 2nd or 3rd best starter next year. I bet he will. I'm also one who usually expects youngsters to struggle early on but I think Brandon is very special(time number 3423432432 I've said that) and I expect him to be very good in 07.
