A-Rod, what's the asking price
QUOTE(BobDylan @ Oct 7, 2006 -> 07:30 PM) And, is A-Rod a player worth having? Yes. As for what it would take to get him, I have no clue.

QUOTE(SpringfieldFan @ Oct 7, 2006 -> 07:06 PM) Sounds like you are scared to death it might actually happen! Well rest easy. Due to new policy he will likely not go in with an A's cap. Instead, we will have the pride of seeing him go to the hall disgruntled because he has to wear a Sox cap. Fitting. SFF LOL, I'm not scared of anything. There is 0 shot of it happening. I have no clue why it's even being talked about.

Looking at the espn "expert" predictions, not one of them picked the Tigers to win this series. Good stuff.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Oct 7, 2006 -> 04:32 PM) Sox were also very semi close to getting A-Rod before Texas, so there is a little history there. And with that contract, your not really going to have to deal with Boras. Once that deal is done, so is A-Rod. And we actually have money this time around. If Arod indeed goes on the trading block, I expect us to be serious players.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Oct 7, 2006 -> 04:25 PM) Can the Sox afford that left side of the infield, though? Ya, that's a fair point. But I mean if you get Arod you have to move him to short, he's the most valuable position player in baseball when he's at short imo. Do you remember how much money the Sox have tied up already for next year, isn't it around 90? Anyways, one of the starters is gone for sure, I'm sure we all agree with that, and I think the Yankees would eat a bit of his salary. It could get tricky but he'd have to play short if we traded for him imo.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Oct 7, 2006 -> 04:22 PM) Ditto. We'll deal with his unclutch ass. I guess the only question is, ARod at 3B or SS? That's not a question at all in my mind.

QUOTE(GasHeGone @ Oct 6, 2006 -> 08:45 PM) After seeing Big Hurt getting doused with bubbly post-ALDS clinch, I got to thinking...if the A's go all the way, which is not unrealistic, I think Hurt should get another standing O when he comes back to Sox Park. Not only should he get a standing O, but he should be introduced as two-time World Champion FRAAAAAAANK THOMAS. Not only would it give Hurt his due, but I think Sox fans could use the PR. We don't have the best reputation in the class department. Essentially, my biggest fear is that Hurt stays with the A's for a few more years, wins a championship (or two...who knows?...not impossible...) and pulls a Carlton Fisk on us by going to the Hall as an Athletic. Does anyone think this could ever happen? Again, probably not totally likely but some food for thought. Ok, that would be weird as hell. And jesus people, there is absolutely 0 chance, NONE that he goes into the hall with an A's hat. I don't even know how that thought is even in peoples minds.

QUOTE(Brian @ Oct 6, 2006 -> 02:23 PM) Tonight...in Libertyville...the 6-0 Wildcats host the 6-0 Stevenson Patriots! First times these two powerhouses have met and both been undefeated since 1991. Wish I could go. Have you seen that Libertyville is streaming live tonight? http://lhs.district128.org/ Pretty damn cool.

QUOTE(Steff @ Oct 6, 2006 -> 03:23 PM) I think we're going to see Texas Chainsaw - The Beginning tonight. I wasn't too fond of the Biel one, but this one is a pre-quel and supposedly explains how the family business got started. Anyone else see it or planning on seeing it? To be honest, it looks horrible to me. I think I'm finally going to see jackass tonight, that or get drunk or both.

It could be a fun game to play: What's the biggest reason you want to get rid of pods? His defense in left field is the answer for me.

Out of our 6 starters...
QUOTE(fathom @ Oct 6, 2006 -> 12:04 PM) Anthony Reyes might be the most overrated player on soxtalk. He had a great game against us, but his ERA ended up being way too high (5.06), and he's had a history of injury issues. Flat out, the Cardinals don't have the pieces for the Sox to trade with. Maybe you're just underrating him? I know very well what his era was for this season but I've seen him pitch enough to think he's going to be a pretty darn good starter in this league. Like I said though, Buehrle has much more value than just Reyes.

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Oct 6, 2006 -> 12:22 PM) In an effort to protect Brian he started using Rob in CF more, sacrificing defense to try and provide more pop to a sluggish lineup. Sluggish lineup? Our hitters were absolutely killing the ball when Ozzie started to platoon the two.

QUOTE(shipps @ Oct 6, 2006 -> 04:01 AM) We have waited for MB to come down to earth for a long time.My gut tells me the league has finally caught up to him.Reyes is gonna be a hell of a pitcher for a long time. I'm sorry but I don't buy that the league caught up to him after 5 years, that doesn't make much sense. Buehrle is one guy that I have faith in to bounce back, much more than Freddy, much more than Jose, and I expect Mark once again to be better than Garland next season. Like I said, I am a big fan of Reyes and I think he's going to be a very nice pitcher but Buehrle is worth more than that.

QUOTE(shipps @ Oct 6, 2006 -> 03:52 AM) Trade Buehrle to the cards for Reyes.maybe even think about Mulder. Mulder is a fa. I'm a big fan of Anthony Reyes but Buehrle is worth a hell of a lot more than that.

QUOTE(shipps @ Oct 6, 2006 -> 03:40 AM) Because the Marlins like BA ,it makes me like him once again.they have an unbelievable eye for young talent.Ask the Cubs. You must keep him. I've become one of the bigger Brian Anderson fans around, however the Marlins are absolutely loaded with young arms, so you at least have to listen to what they have to offer.

QUOTE(greg775 @ Oct 6, 2006 -> 02:33 AM) I am saying I completely understand why Oz soured on BA and got him only 350 at bats. BA SUCKED at the plate early; just sucked. So instead we throw a guy out there in center who cost us at least a good 3 games in the field. Ozzie hurt the team by continuing to throw Rob out there, it's that simple.

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Oct 5, 2006 -> 03:34 PM) ozzie did everything he could to protect BA during the first half and now Ozzie's his nemesis, if you believe what you read around here. Ugh, I told myself I was done debating all the BA garbage but Ozzie did nothing to protect BA in the first half. If by protecting him you mean throwing him out there against a lot of left handers when he hits better against righties, then sure, he protected him.

Out of our 6 starters...
QUOTE(RME JICO @ Oct 5, 2006 -> 03:46 PM) I think Buehrle will be re-signed to a deal slightly higher than Garland's. He would have commanded much more before this season, but after a down year, he has lost some value. Garcia seems to be the obvious choice, especially to a NL team in need of starting pitching. I could see him going to NYM, SD, LA, or even HOU. There are more options than Crawford for leadoff. This will be a very interesting off season to say the least. Always is with Mr. Williams controlling the team.
