QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 04:07 PM) Since Thome has sucked against LHP lately, and hasn't had any success vs Rogers this year, can we let Fields DH tonight? Nothing has worked against Rogers all year, why not try something new? Gotta stick with what got us there fathom, duh.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 03:40 PM) Well considering this is the last ticket in my plan, except for my ALCS tickets, I get 2 of them in my Ozzie plan, wooo hooo. I am going to go there with this thought. I am going to have a few beers, and a few brats, enjoy one more day of the game of summer, and then give it a fine farewell and look forward to the hotstove season. Maybe they can shock us and have a miracle happen. If not I thank them for last year, and hope to god they come out with their pride hurt, and a new goal, and a purpose. And hopefully Cora and Walker are spending their last days as whitesox employees. That at least will make me happy about 07. While you're there wanna pick up my ds, cs and world series tickets?

QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 03:50 PM) My only reservations about Thome was he seemed anti-thetical to the "smallball" approach that helped us win last year. I think we have enough sluggers with Dye, Crede, Paulie and even to some extent Gooch--I don't want to live by the longball. Yes I KNOW we didn't play smallball exclusively last year but we sure did a lot more of hit/bunt/run/steal than this year, which, offense-wise, has closely resembled 2004. I like Thome I really do but first half he was an intmidator and second half he seems to be a non-factor. Well Carl Everett wasn't exactly a small ball person himself. Thome replaced him so there is really no difference there in the small ball aspect. The small ball part of last years team was almost exclusively Pods getting on and running and gooch getting him over in the 1st half of last season. Unfortunately, Pods can't get on base or steal bases anymore so gooch has no one to move over, thus small ball go bye bye.

Speaking of Dye batting 3rd, the offense has went completely in the tank since we switched up the order. Now, I know there is no direct correlation between the two, I just wanted to point out that as bad as Ozzie has been, not making that lineup switch earlier didn't hurt this team at all like some had suggested.

The Bills d is fine and dandy but once again it was more about Culpepper not being able to make a f'n throw that cost the phins the game. He looks like absolute crap so far.

This thread makes my head hurt.

I signed up, so hopefully everything goes through and I'll start playing once I get my money.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 12:30 PM) Yeah but I only know one Jets fan so I can't gloat all that much. It's amazing just how many Dolphins fans there are in the area though, I know about 10 Phins fans and it would feel good to rub it in all their faces if the Bears can take that game. You're mean. p.s. You guys are going to kill us.

Lose a lot of games until we're officially eliminated, and then win out.

West Virginia is going to run the table and get screwed out of the national title game, just watch. -
Good stuff. To be honest, it's really hard for me to get into the football program down here but I really wanted to win this game, I think it's just a very cool thing for the program. I really can't wait for college bball season to start though and December 17th is definitely marked on my calendar. GO DAWGS!!!

So I just talked to my step brother and he was one of the morons who rushed the field after the victory. He shall get a beating next time I see him. -
QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 02:31 PM) Ozzie stood up for his players; they want a cold beer after a game. He said he'd pay for the beer. I think it's great. As much as some of you hate Oz, would Jerry ever fire him? I am an Ozzie lover. Am I safe in thinking he'll be our skipper next year? Reading this site everyday makes me think he could get the axe. We should do a poll after the season who still likes Oz and who hates him. Unfortunately, he's not going anywhere.

QUOTE(TLAK @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 02:18 PM) I heard Hawk on the radio too, I've long felt Anderson's defense out weighed Mackowiak's offense, just based on watching them play. But when I agree with anything Harrelson says, it's time to take a second look. So let’s go over the numbers and try to understand Ooze’s choice. Here are ESPN's splits. I put Ozuna/Podsednik in too as long as I was doing it. On offense OPS * 4.3 roughly translates to bases per game. On defense FP% * Range Factor roughly translates to outs per game. So in Center Ozzie is picking up about half a base a game while giving up 6/10s of an out. The disparity on offense is probably greater in reality because Mack gets all the tough right handers. What would BA's numbers look like facing Loaiza, Santana and Lackey last week? Mack was 3 for 8 plus a RBI SAC. In left, the disparity in offense vastly out weighs Pablo's adventures on defense, there are just not that many balls hit to left. We can never know what would happen if he left Anderson in there everyday. The manager has decided he stands a better chance with the platoon, and as he has pointed out he is the f***ing manager. I think I'd still rather see BA out there, but I can see good baseball reasons behind his playing Mack. This has been said over and over again but it's not fair at all to look at Brian's numbers as a whole. He's a completely different hitter now then he was the first two months of the season. Mack might be a bit of a better hitter right now but he's not that much of an upgrade offensively to outweigh the fact that Brian is 3402943209483209438204932804932 times better defensively.

w00t. Now score ISU. -
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 01:22 PM) Yeah totally. I mean, who wants to blame the pitching when we could blame the best offense in baseball, and our extremely successful manager? Jesus, trust me I've ripped on this pitching staff a ton this year but our manager certainly isn't trying to help them by putting out crappy defenses every game. Having Mack in cf has cost us a good amount of games this year and it'll continue to do so down the stretch. Like I said, this is the kind of crap that will have our team sitting at home in October.

QUOTE(Brian @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 11:09 PM) Excuse me while I remove my foot from my mouth....ok. Lake Zurich beat Libertyville. Kudos to them. I underminded them and they are the real deal. Now looking forward to them vs. Stevenson. Pats improve to 4-0. -
QUOTE(shawnhillegas @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 11:16 PM) well one guys hurt, and yes thornton would be a good option, but you know, we can only use him so often. Mac should be good to go and Thornton hasn't pitched since saturday, he's just fine.
