Question: Person fires a gun into a Lincoln town car, the bullet hits the driver in the head, at the hospital a neurosurgeon runs an apnea test, the doctor believes the person is brain dead with a DNR order so he harvests the organs for transplant and saves 2 people’s lives. What are the charges and the prison time that will follow?

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Jan 24, 2006 -> 07:28 PM) Sorry, Jenks would be pretty lame as well. Yeah I agree, that is why I omitted both on my list I believe I wrote that on the top of the list

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jan 24, 2006 -> 06:11 PM) How deeply did it pain you when composing that list? Can the organization mend the loss of a trio I assume would make out at least the top five or six in Young-Gonzalez-Haigwood? Despite coming from near-obscurity in 2005 would Haigwood have competed for that final lefty spot on the Sox ML roster? 1.) Well the top part of the list wasn't bad at all but it gets very shaky the further down the list to where BA might take any one of 5-10 players for those final 2 spots. 2.) Yes I believe we can Dave Wilder is still the best when it comes to the farm system. With the departures comes the chance for other Haigwoods to step up and perform, the system after Liotta, Broadway, Lummy is very thin so the opportunity to step is there. I also think the Sox's will go pitching heavy in this year’s draft. 3.) Well I have heard Reynoso is competing for the job so if that is the bar, then yes Haigwood would have had a chance, but in all likely hood Haig would have been in the Knights rotation.

BA's list comes out tomorrow I will give my top 8 list and see tomorrow how they stack up (Omitted BMAC, Jenks) 1. Anderson, Brian 2. Sweeney, Ryan 3. Broadway, Lance 4. Liotta, Ray 5. Fields, Josh 6. Valido, Rob 7. Tracey, Sean 8. Owens, Jerry The other 2 spots I am deciding between Reynoso, Fields (P), Lopez, Rodriguez, Munoz, Haeger, Rogowski, Getz, Pollok and a few others

QUOTE(minors @ Jan 23, 2006 -> 11:58 AM) Hello I am new to the board, I am a D-back fan. Just wanted to know what to expect from Chris Young? Hello welcome to the board, Chris Young hit .277 at a very pitchers freindly park known as the Hoover Met. Chris also set the Barons record for doubles (41) Tied for the Southern League lead with 26 homers. Chris also stole 32 bases out of 38 chances. As with power hitters Young had 126 K's about 1 per game, but those numbers are little off because of Chris struggles the first month of the season. I like Chris he has awsome power his defense is up and coming. I compare Young to Mike Cameron with the possiblity to be Andruw Jones type of player in the future. I think you D-Back fans will enjoy Young.

QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jan 22, 2006 -> 10:31 AM) And like I said before. If you are on the road at a rival's stadium cheering for the road team then you should expect something like "sit the f*** down" in the very least. If you can't handle that then you shouldn't be going there. That is pretty simlpe. If you are doing it at my home team's stadium I wil tell you that every single time. You can either have fun with that or you can have a problem with it. If you want a problem out of that, then I would be more than happy to supply you with one. Axelrod acted like a normal fan would. Davis' wife did not. I see this all the time at the Met with visting fans standing & cheering for other team, but with kids in the crowd I refrain from saying those type of words. There is no reason to use that word with kids around.

Sox rated 11th best farm system by Sports Weekly
BHAMBARONS replied to maggsmaggs's topic in FutureSox Board
Gems of the System Brian Anderson (Agree) Ray Liottta (Agree) + Broadway Cream of the Crop Francisco Hernandez (Hmmm he has not even reached Bham yet) Chris Stewart (Not a top 10 prospect) Rob Valido (Agree) + Sweeney Up-and-Coming Brandon Allen Jack Egbert (Agree, I like what I have heard from Egbert) Josh Fields (Up-and-Coming???) Jay Marshall Noe Rodriguez (wow) Ehren Wassermann (First he needs to hold AA hitters to .330 AVG) Sleepers (although they called it Up-and-Coming again, it was an error) Tom Collaro (153 K's) Boone Logan Paul Moviel Top 2005 Draftees Lance Broadway (Considering he was the sox's 1st rounder) Alex Woodson Daniel Cortes Aaron Cunningham (Like what I have heard) Clayton Richards Others Worth Noting Jerry Owens (Led the SL in Hitting last season) Kris Honel Sean Tracey (14 win season at AA) Frank Viola III (WHAT!!) (Additions to worth noting) Casey Rogowski (Hit .300 almost all season at AA) Pedro Lopez (Great D) Dwayne Pollok (Really made some great strides) Joshua Fields (Hurt last season and a nasty slider) -
White Sox invite 19 players to Spring Training

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jan 19, 2006 -> 04:34 PM) Ugh, I don't like the Sox being associated with roiders at all. Blakely's a bit of a surprise, but I think BHAM will be happy. You bet, Charlotte fans will be pleasntly surprised about Blake good person who is a good OF as well. Blakely with all the prospects in the SL this season led the league with 89 RBI, also the only SL player to hit homers from both sides of the plate in the same game last year (Blake also did it in '04 as well). Blake has a strong accurate arm and had OF assists at the plate from every OF Postion last year. And it would not surprise me a bit that Owens does not see much playing time in CF for Charlotte this season if at all. -

Wednesday, January 18, 2006 Trains collide near Lincoln, forcing evacuation Two trains collided today in Talladega County near Lincoln, and authorities evacuated nearby homes because of potential danger from a gas plume caused by the accident. Three train crew members sustained minor injuries in the crash and were taken to an area hospital, said Susan Terpay, spokeswoman for Norfolk Southern railroad. The accident scene is about a half mile into Talladega County, near Stines Lane and U.S. 78, Talladega Emergency Management officials said Wednesday night. Norfolk Southern tracks run parallel to U.S. 78 between the Coosa River and Lincoln. Talladega EMA officials said several of the train cars were on fire. Terpay said rail officials believe just the two locomotives are burning. The crash produced a fire that created an orange glow that could be seen from the U.S. 78 bridge over Logan Martin Lake in Riverside. Police and rescue workers from multiple cities and counties blocked off the stretch of U.S. 78 between Riverside and Lincoln. Deborah Gaither, deputy director of the Talladega County Emergency Management Agency, said at 6:15 p.m. that residents within a one-mile radius of the accident scene were being evacuated because one of the cars contained sodium cyanide. Cynide exposure can have a variety of effects ranging from shortness of breath to seizures to coma and death, depending on the level of exposure and form of cyanide. The state’s environmental agency has not detected sodium cyanide in the air, but has called in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to do real-time air monitoring, said Jerome Hand, spokesman for the Alabama Department of Environmental Management. ADEM was alerted by the Talladega EMA about the sodium cyanide on one of the train cars. Officials had decided Wednesday evening to let the fire burn itself out, he said. Gaither said a shelter was being set up at the new Lincoln High School in Lincoln the Lincoln Methodist Church and the Spring Street Recreational Center. St. Clair County EMA officials were also evacuating some residents in a very small area bordered by the Coosa River, Lock 4 Road, Tomahawk Trail and the Broken Creek. Those residents were being asked to go to shelters in Pell City, said Phil Watson, River Control Specialist for the St. Clair County EMA. Residents of Lomar Villa were being asked to shelter in place. Lackey said residents in Lomar Villa were trapped because there is only one exit from their neighborhood. He said the Talladega EMA contacted residents of the neighborhood by telephone and instructed them on how to protect themselves from the gas. “We’ve talked a lot about getting an escape route,” Lackey said. “Hopefully, this will convince people we’ve got to get an escape route.” Sarah Paxton was at her sister’s mobile home near the site of the crash when it occurred. “It was like a real huge boom,” Paxton said. “We started seeing a really huge plume of thick, black smoke. Then we heard pops, like gunshots.” A short time later, Paxton said emergency vehicles drove through the mobile home park and instructed people to evacuate. Paxton and some other evacuees waited for information at the intersection of U.S. 78 and Talladega County Road 207, where police and rescue workers stopped traffic and waited on more instructions. Mike Cason, Toraine Norris and Katherine Bouma Man this is a mess out here, could see the black cloud over my house. Hopefully we will be ok here no word yet.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 18, 2006 -> 12:58 PM) I sort of disagree that this is the "Moneyball" approach. To me, the whole "Moneyball" approach was focused on finding value in places other teams were undervaluing. Teams were overvaluing BA against OBP, so Beane put together teams composed of high OBP players, etc. The draft story I got was that Beane felt people were overvaluing high school level performances, and not giving enough value to college performances. So, he went and focused his drafts on guys who had performed to his criteria in college. But now, people have started valuing college performances more highly, so that under-valuation has corrected itself, and voila...the A's were drafting High Schoolers and college players both last year. The Moneyball philosophy is that to compete in the big leagues, you have to find value wherever you can. It's a risk to draft a high-schooler, but if a guy starts to drop in the draft because he's a high-schooler, then at some level it does become worht the risk. Yes I agree and have edited the post

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jan 16, 2006 -> 05:16 PM) A couple questions for Rex, BH, and the rest of the gang. 1) Why should I not fear a knuckler playing the bulk of his games in US Cellular Field? I'm sure some comparison can be drawn to Wakefield playing in Fenway, or Charlie Hough playing at Comisky, but, I'd be awfully surprised to see this kid work out. 2) Why am I thinking drafting polished, collegiate pitchers is the way to go? I know you can always find some gems straight out of high school, but, if I were in the front office, I'd much prefer to see a collegiate player drafted in the early rounds. Is that thinking dangerous? 1. From what I seen of Haig I agree with Rex in saying that Haig is a big long shot to make it. Wakefield still has a pitch to keep the hitters off balance but Haig's fastball is 80-82 and if he facing an experienced lineup with the Knuckle ball not dancing like it should he will be in serious trouble. Walks are also an issue for Haig because he doesn't have a great K pitch, he gives up a couple of walks and all of the sudden he has to rely on the fastball which just won't cut in the majors. 2. I like college players as well and they are the safe bet but really it depends on the front office, are they more risk takers? Or do they like the take it safe approach with the safe college pick? I tend to agree with you about the college players but I have also seen some good prospects in high school and there are some players that are certainly worth the risk.

QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Jan 12, 2006 -> 01:04 AM) "To that end, the team has asked Bagwell to visit orthopedist Dr. James Andrews' office on Thursday in Birmingham, Ala., the Chronicle reported. The deadline for the insurance claim is Jan. 31." that's the quote from the article, so I assume that means that one of his associates will perform the exam since it says his "office." I know a few of the WWE wrestlers have been going in there the last few days, so I assume his office is up and running... Yeah his office is ran out of St. Vincent's hopsital here in Birmingham while Dr. Andrews won't be seeing anyone his staff will.

QUOTE(squeezeplay @ Jan 12, 2006 -> 12:50 PM) I was looking thru some of the affiliates' websites, and it appears that Kevin Anderson works in the Birmingham Barons front office. Maybe that should explain away some of the confusion here. Could be, I forgot all about Kevin he is the Barons director of sales it is still strange to get these two mixed up. 84 days till first pitch at the Met!!
-
QUOTE(mannyfast @ Jan 11, 2006 -> 02:31 PM) Best of Luck Bull! My favorite Bull moments at the Met were when they played "California" when you warmed up... and when you got Fielder in the helmet in that game vs. Huntsville in 04 LOL!!! I loved seeing that big tub of lard falling to the ground he had been edgeing toward the plate the first couple of games and crushing our staff and Bull send him a lesson. And it worked because Bull owned Fielder going 1-20 against the Bull.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 11, 2006 -> 11:23 AM) You would know better than I. Heres to hoping for some improvement. I will second that

My name is simple Bham= Birmingham and of course the Barons are the class AA affiliate of the Sox's since 1985.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 11, 2006 -> 11:09 AM) I didnt say anything real negative about his offense as I know he cut down K's and improved so I will edit that out. His footwork is still an issue from what I hear, and his arm was bascially the only thing he EVER had going for him. It helps him overcome some of the mistakes he makes. But at the major league level, that will not be the case. He needs to have professional footwork and glovework to make it on this team. And at this point he is not close. You didnt say whether or not they were talking about moving him to 1B at one point so I will assume that was true. Yes there is talk of Josh playing 1st and he played one game at 1st last year when Rogo went down with an injury. I also agree his footwork is still a big problem and I hope he improves this season because the guy can hit and did show some flashes of brilliance at the hot corner this season
-
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 11, 2006 -> 10:16 AM) Thats good and all, and maybe he can fix some of his k's. But what about his poor defense at 3rd? His bad footwork? Wasnt it suggested that they even try him at 1st some this year? Actually he did bring down his K rate in the second half he had 83 of his strikeouts in the first half to only 59 in the second half which is a little less than one a game. Josh in the second half of the season became the Barons best clutch hitter and also started laying off the breaking pitch on the outside edge and when he did swing he went with the pitch not trying to pull it. His footwork got better at the end of the season one thing Josh has working for him is the arm which bailed him out of what would have been a lot more errors. Bottom line is give Josh this season at Charlotte and see if his second half success at the Grand Canyon (aka the Hoover Met) transfers over to AAA ball
-
Good luck to you Bull, You gave us Barons fans some great memories during your 3+ years at the Met. I hope you had a great experence as a Baron. P.S. Hopefully you don't return to the SL and terrorize us All kidding aside you were a great Baron and will be missed around the Met
-
Yeah I hate the offseason as well even though it is real warm here (right now at 1:06 AM it is 65 outside) and we have hit record highs in 5 of the 9 days this year reaching 82 on New Years but I drive past the Met and the grass is nice and green and it seems like we should be playing ball yet the season doesn't start for another 3 months and it is very frusterating

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jan 9, 2006 -> 04:06 AM) Anyone who voted No is just a downright hater... the Question said can they and in the NFC they can make it there. If they had to travel to Indy or play the Pats id be a bit moe hesitant but in the NFC where the only team they wouldnt be favored against is Seattle.... they very much so can make it.... I am not a hater I happen to live in a region where the only choices for teams are The Saints (ugh), The Falcons (ugh), The Titans (ugh), and the Panthers who are the best of the bunch so I am a Panthers fan
