QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 8, 2008 -> 01:14 PM) That is a bummer. I always enjoyed what he did here and I'll continue to root for him on the next team he plays for (he's definitely good enough to get another major league job in this league). Anyone know if Paulie is going to start tonight? I'm assuming with him flying in today that they'll hold Paulie out today and have him play in the final two games. they said konerko will be starting tonight on the radio i agree with the sentiment of others here...i appreciate what pablo did..always played hard, did a few little things well....but he was the most logical subtraction...guys with no power, no on base ability and poor defenders just arent that valuable
  2. QUOTE (shipps @ Jul 8, 2008 -> 08:52 AM) People need to hold their judgement on Rose for now.Its 1 summer league game for christ sake!I can see Beasley being a more productive player for the first year or two but after that it will be clear Rose was the right choice. i understand rose has room to grow, but why doesnt beasley also? i mean they are the same age and have the same experience, so i never really understood the "beasley will be better in year 1, but rose will be after that" arguement...i dont think people are judging rose either...certainly you cant do that after just one game, but i do think last nights game was a good manifestation of why some of us wanted beasley over rose
  3. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 7, 2008 -> 10:30 AM) I thought that with knucklers, it wasn't a function of temperature, as much as humidity. And wind. typically they go hand in hand, but its also difficult to get a feel for the knuckler in cold temps when your hands get cold
  4. my god beasley just put on a clinic on noah
  5. beasley/rose making paxson look bad 3 pts 5 TO and some bad D for rose
  6. QUOTE (wcw2323 @ Jul 7, 2008 -> 08:13 AM) And how about Charlie Haeger??? Last 10 starts his ERA is 2.82. Leads the league in IP's, record is now 7-7. I look for a big second half from the knuckler! we should just never let haeger pitch if its below 70 degrees out
  7. QUOTE (lord chas @ Jul 7, 2008 -> 09:43 AM) can they make the validation codes any freakin harder to read? wanna get JD elected? vote until you get your zip code
  8. QUOTE (Markbilliards @ Jul 6, 2008 -> 07:49 PM) I strongly disagree with all of you. Dye has been very good for us this year, but he does not deserve to get voted in over Longoria. The all star game is made so worthless by all the fan voting. Because the players who are more well liked (usually due to what team they're on) are the ones who become all stars, not the ones who deserve it per their performance on the year. Vote Longoria. If you vote a player in just because he plays for your team than you are just as bad as all those people who voted for the Boston/Yankee players like crazy. The all star game should be a matter of performance, not popularity. Now some could make an argument that Dye is more deserving than Longoria, if you really feel that way than vote for him. But considering that Evan started the year after Dye, and has played GG caliber defense, you gotta put him in there over JD. dye has outperformed longoria, or is very similar to longoria in every offensive category...and has only played in 6 more games than evan.....if you wanna put longoria in for his D, fine...but you would have difficult time convincing anyone that longoria has been better than dye on O
  9. QUOTE (Benchwarmerjim @ Jul 6, 2008 -> 05:30 PM) when is Fielder arb. eligible? that might cost the Brewers a few sacks of cash soon...i think beginning next year im sure the brewers won't trade fielder if they deal laporta...the whole notion that htey would trade fielder was because they could get value before he gets too fat, and that they could plug laporta into that spot and hopefully get production somewhat near fielders....but if they deal laporta, id bet theyd hang on to fielder
  10. the score is reporting this deal is really close to going down too
  11. QUOTE (greasywheels121 @ Jul 6, 2008 -> 04:46 PM) We're not perfect in this thing. We've struck out with Frank and then Frank and Maggs. We've probably had the most players on this thing though. wikipedia says you are right....6...and that was before this year so 7 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/All-Star_Final_Vote
  12. varitek may be the single worst All star ever....lance carter bad.... but i think its worse because at least carter made it because of the every team having a member rule...i mean alot of people in boston are saying varitek is done and they want him out of there now they really did a poor, poor job this year putting these together...recently it has been pretty good too...seemed like hte last few years they had been constructed they way they should but really if they are gonna make this game count for the world series, they have to get rid of the fan vote...or visa versa, get rid of the world series rule and just use interleague play record
  13. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 6, 2008 -> 05:29 AM) If only teams could regularly hit .310+ with runners in scoring position. Don't get me wrong, it's a talented offense, but it's a down year in the AL and they, honestly, have been lucky as f***. I imagine even benchjim would tell you that. They have a shot to compete with Liriano potentially coming up at some point and by acquiring a bat, but I don't think they have a chance at being the best team in the division with the roster they currently have. ill give you the other points...but i strongly disagree with this...especially in terms of the pitching...
  14. if you had to list the top 5 offenses in baseball to this point...i suspect most all of you would certainly say texas, boston, philadelphia and the cubs were 4 of the five....but how many of you would say the minnesota twins are 5th?? Well, they are, and this team isn't going away. In addition to the 5th highest scoring offense in baseball, they also have a pitching staff that is quietly developing a handful of very good starters....Slowey, Baker and Blackburn all have ERAs under 4, and even Glenn Perkins has a 4.31.....
  15. not only the IBB to ellis, but why did dotel only pitch to 1 batter...its not like thye brought a lefty in either...dotel threw to one guy and then ozzie went to masset
  16. supposedly it was a clause in buerhles contract that they wear em
  17. QUOTE (ROC Sox Fan @ Jul 4, 2008 -> 03:24 AM) So Buehrle ends up getting the start when they wear the camo he designed or at least suggested. Was this planned? i feel like it had to be.....i read a few articles that said we are the biggest copycats in the history of baseball for this...which frankly is true....ill be at the game...lets hope we pound blanton
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 3, 2008 -> 10:48 PM) It's been an awfully long time since we lost. Let's get in the win column again tomorrow.
  19. from espn....i dont care if javy throws this guy hangers ...as long as he keeps away from the fastball and in the strike zone
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 3, 2008 -> 12:08 PM) Possible good news for Sunday, as Harden has a "dead arm". Given his history, there's a decent chance he'll be scratched from the start. that is good news...i remember we faced harden when he first came up and was like 4-0 with a minuscule ERA, after throwing like 15 perfect innings straight in the minors or something crazy...a sunday afternoon game and loaiza outdueled him for hardens first loss iirc
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 3, 2008 -> 11:09 AM) Explain he said "well, im a bit worried about him too" but overall it didnt seem like he tohught it would be a long term thing
  22. duchscherer has given up over 2 ER in a start just once...and that outing he gave up 3...on the brightside he has just an average GB:FB ratio and his BABIP has to be ridiculously low with only 59 Hits in 85 innings with just 55 strikeouts...so maybe hes due for a good knocking around
  23. so how worried should we be about jenks?
  24. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jul 3, 2008 -> 12:37 AM) Is it just me or are the Giants wearing navy blue hats with a silver SF? BTW- 6-5 now after a Fontenot HR. they are and the cubs appear to be wearing hats that seem a bit differnet than normal as well
  25. OC, SS; AJ, C; Q, LF; Dye, RF; Thome, DH; Ozuna, 3B; Swish, 1B; Ram, 2B; BA, CF. Contreras pitching.
