  1. not sure why i should be surprised given the fact that he was excellent at every aspect of the game when he was on the floor, but I've been pleasantly surprised with Pippen as an analyst. He actually brings quite a bit to the table IMO
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 18, 2011 -> 06:59 PM) Rios if he maintains this (as he did in 09), then yes, but right now if someone argued that hes just having a rough 61 ABs, i could potentially buy it...the other guys have a lot of history suggesting that they aren't much better than they are right now
  3. pierre, AJ (castro today), morel are really pretty big holes in this lineup...
  4. QUOTE (Real @ Apr 18, 2011 -> 06:43 PM) Every team in our division has a pitcher better than anybody we have, save the Royals (though will that be true next year?) I'd take Masterson over anybody in our rotation so you are saying the mariners will win the AL?
  5. QUOTE (Big Hurtin @ Apr 18, 2011 -> 06:09 PM) Apparently the Tampa fans aren't sure what time the game starts either. can't really dog other teams about attendance....the cell has been freaking empty this year
  6. im never sure how accurate the pitch tracker on gameday is, but price was popping 97 with what looked like ridiculous movement
  7. i couldnt believe how many local guys picked the hawks to win in 7....well be lucky to push this thing to a 6th game
  8. QUOTE (kapzk @ Apr 13, 2011 -> 05:03 PM) I think there is way too much panic here ... I look at it as a good thing that we have blown these games early so that we can actually iron out the pen and put the guys in the correct places. I know it sucks to lose these games especially in this manner, but i think it may help in the long run of the season. What we have learned is that Thornton sucks right now, so we yank him out of the closers role and put Santos in. This may be a great thing in the long overhaul of the season. Only time will tell how Santos will perform. But again its only April 13th, ton of baseball left to play, and heck we are 7-5 while Detroit and Minnesota are atleast 2.5 games behind us at the moment. On the downside however we have a tough schedule coming up, with the Angels top pitchers up against us. this is a pretty good post. the fact is we are still playing good baseball, which is a good sign long term. Anyone who watches baseball regularly knows how volatile modern bullpens are. the fact of that matter is that the bullpen WILL be better (almost by definition). Looking back, if you told me we would start the year 7-5 and should have really been 9-3 or 10-2, I would have been very content. even with the bullpen as currently constructed, I still think this is a team that will contend for hte division, whereas april 1, I wasnt entirely sure.
  9. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 13, 2011 -> 04:55 PM) Totally pulling this out my ass. But I wonder what it would take to land Soria? His contract runs through next year. They're certainly not going to resign him. The Royals are about set to unleash their farm soon. They've got Crow, Jeffress and Collins. i know youll appreciate this comment, at least more than those who like to jump down throats of anyone who bashes our minor league system....but outside of mitchell, i can't even comprehend that their stacked system would even want anything from ours.
  10. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 13, 2011 -> 01:24 PM) where did you get one? The club level has an unreal italian. yeah it wasnt the club level...i forgot what they call em, but places on the 100 level that look like the hot dog stands but dont have the dogs- they sell the italians and polish's with onions and peppers
  11. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Apr 13, 2011 -> 04:48 PM) Again, I've been saying I wanted Crain to close for *DAYS*. jesse crain has been an average pitcher throughout his career. hes had a year or two where hes been slightly better than average, and a year or two where hes been slightly worse. He is what he is...a 7th inning guy. Nothing more
  12. the following are the things that stupify me about todays game (i know i am being redundant with some of them, but this is irritating me that much) if you come out publicly and say Thornton is your closer, then thornton is your closer If not, and sale is your closer, then ok. But if sale is your closer and you bring him in winning by 3, then he is your f***ign closer and you leave him in there with a men on 1st and 2nd and 0 out up by 2. If you then decide that Sale isn't your closer because he gave up 3 straight hits, and Jesse crain is going to be your closer, and you allow crain to pitch with bases loaded an 0 outs, then you allow crain to pitch with bases loaded and 1 out. More than all that though, if you aren't smart enough as a manager to realize that 3-4 tough games for a reliever (2 of which your LF dropped easy fly balls that would have won the game), isn't nearly as indicative of a guys potential as pitcher as his stellar previous 3 years (and 200 innings) of work, then you aren't smart enough to be a manager in major league baseball
  13. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Apr 13, 2011 -> 04:20 PM) Anyone know how many games we have lead after 8 innings? I would venture to guess that our record would be about 9-3 or 10-2 had games ended after 8. had a lead in the 9th in 11/12 games this year....at worst you should be 9-3 with that record
  14. im not watching...looks like thornton isnt missing by much on gameday...is he at least close?
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 13, 2011 -> 03:58 PM) I have no idea why Crain didn't start that inning. the biggest thing is that ozzie comes out and says thornton is his closer in public, then deflates the guys confidence putting sale out there, then puts him in an impossible situation in which the likelihood of failing is high....its awful managing
  16. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Apr 13, 2011 -> 03:54 PM) Relax people, Thornton actually looked good, despite the outcome. And no, it wasn't bad managing. It almost worked, and if it had, you'd all be praising how awesome the managing was. Stuff it. couldnt disagree more...you say publicly the guy is your closer....so f***ing use him as your closer, not a rookie who pitched 2 innings 18 hours ago
  17. ok matt i dont have confidence in you to start the inning as my closer, but since everyone else f***ed up, we might as well let you have a chance...good thinking ozzie IF YOU ARE GOING OT BRING HIM IN HERE WITH BASES LOADED AND 1 OUT YOU BRING HIM IN AT THE BEGINNING OF THE INNING
  18. this whole thing has been ridiculous....ozzie has mismanaged this horribly....nobody has a defined role right now...he said thornton is his closer which is fine, hed be having a semi-decent start if pierre could catch flyballs behind him
  19. had an italian sausage the other night....awful 2 years ago and before they were so good...then last year they significantly decreased in quality, and monday it was almost inedible
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 7, 2011 -> 10:00 AM) Simply put, we needed another reliever and Lastings was proving unreliable in the field. Boers and Bernstein mentioned his tenure wouldn't be long here, so who knows if he was in the doghouse for other things. we certainly needed another bullpen arm (with the state of this pen...we certainly need to carry 12 pitchers, not 11), but its a joke that lillibridge is on this team instead of milledge...so im guessing there was something this guy did that didnt win him favors in the clubhouse
  21. career vs hochevar pierre 3/6 beckham 4/11 with a HR dunn - never faced Konerko - 2/15 4 BB Rios 1/14 Quentin 2/8 AJ 2/14 Alexei 6/13 Morel - never faced Looks like the best hope of doing some damage is when the lineup turns over - middle of the order has really struggled others - teahen and vizquel both 0/4 Royals have beaten Floyd up a bit - 2-2 4.73 ERA last year, 3-6 with a 4.97 over the last 3 years
  22. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Apr 2, 2011 -> 03:03 PM) Cubs scored 5 in the 8th I believe. big error on overbay....3 runs unearned .....they were playing the pirates after all
  23. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Apr 2, 2011 -> 02:17 PM) Any chance the guns in cleveland are a little slow? Or does it seem like each pitcher has lost 2-3 MPH? I want to see Thornton pitch since he is always a consistent 97+. If he is hitting 93-95, then I will be convinced it's a slow gun. I think the gun in cleveland is probably accurate...and most other guns are usually 2-3 mph over estimating...also its cold and early
