  1. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 13, 2017 -> 05:58 PM) The counter point would be that Alvarez is an Olympian. Doesn't matter. That group worked harder than any of the olympians did.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 13, 2017 -> 05:34 PM) Be interested to see a contest between he and Eddy Alvarez. I worked with speed skaters and the Long Beach State water polo team at the Olympic training center in colorado springs one year. there is no contest. The water polo teams were the best fit athletes of any group at the center. Their workouts were insane. Their warmup was 5x500 yard swims with 100 sit ups and push ups between each. Then the workout started. If have never seen another group work as hard and long as that group.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 13, 2017 -> 04:41 PM) Can he play water polo and then join the minors after that season is over I guarantee he will be the player who is the most physically fit in the organization if he does.
  4. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 13, 2017 -> 04:39 PM) Abbott will sign. The Sox aren't going to draft someone in the 8th round who won't sign. Find the last time the Sox failed to sign a Top 10 pick. I'm going the other way. I can't imagine a water polo player, signed to Long Beach State won't go there. His scholarship is worth more than the slot money. Unless the sox go way overslot, I don't think there's much of a chance.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 13, 2017 -> 04:09 PM) The kid has committed to Long Beach State for Water Polo. Crazy. No chance the sox sign him then. That's one of the top water polo schools in the nation. Must have picked him knowing they won't sign him and save some money. edit: didn't realize they can't use the slot money. It's a weird pick, unless they just did it to draft him again in a few years and create some good will.
  6. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 13, 2017 -> 02:55 PM) I don't know how high the star power is on this draft, but it certainly seems like very nice depth to system. These guys each seem like they have legitimate shots with their talent and profile of making big league level. Similar to 2016, probably what you get when it's so college heavy. But these guys do not seem like projects at all. Yes. very conservative, safe draft. No star potential but maybe a few soild MLB players.
  7. QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 10:59 PM) Don't forget about dessert - a Danish. Nice.
  8. QUOTE (reiks12 @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 10:49 PM) Burger and Beer with a side of Fry.
  9. QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 07:24 PM) I just don't get how an entire board of adults can be so uneducated on the effects of domestic violence. My only hope is that you and your fellow posters are simply the outspoken minority. I hope to god more people here are just smarter because you are a scathing indictment on the education level of men in today's society. On the contrary, I am a mandatory reporter in the state of Illinois. I have been to numerous courses on the topic. However, I also have the same for psychological and emotional abuse as well, something I have a feeling you do not.

    QUOTE (hi8is @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 12:02 AM) Went on the DL last pitching in late April with "Right elbow neuritis". From a little research it seems that rest is the first course of treatment followed by surgery if the condition does not resolve itself. Anyone have any more insights into how he's doing and what's up? This was going to be an odd one regardless of the White Sox odd treatment of injuries this year. Ulnar neuritis typically comes from the nerve stretching over the joint because the joint is loose. The joint shouldn't be loose due to the previous TJS. Also with the TJS, they typically due an unlar nerve transposition, where they take the nerve and move it from below the elbow to above the elbow. This will stop any chance of an irritation occurring due to scar tissue or stress in the area. Since the anatomy has been altered by surgery, it is difficult to know what is going on.
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 03:44 PM) Question....if you draft Hiura now, any chance he's healthy by May of next year if he gets TJS right away? If he gets the surgery right way, he'd probably be ready for some of winter ball.
  12. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 02:55 PM) He's such a snarky bastard. Stone mentioned yesterday that Robert, by consensus of the industry, would be a top 3 pick. Not from the consensus KLaw's sources.
  13. QUOTE (Dunt @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 12:04 PM) Robertson''s value has increased, while his money has decreased and the Nats bullpen needs have greatly increased. The other side of this is that although they will owe him less money, they will also have him for a shorter period of time which decreases his value.
  14. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 02:27 PM) Yea man - you can do whatever you want... but for the first time in the 4 years you've been here I can say that your statements have been disrespectful and contradictory. You opened the door wide open for discussion by making a controversial statement which had merit... then shut the door. Respectfully said... Poorly done. I don't think he meant to shut the door just move it out of this draft thread. Discuss all you want, in the appropriate thread. At least that's how I took his comments.
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 08:32 AM) Not to mention Robert has a lot of the same tools...so not quite the same amount of pressure to find a future CFer on Hahn right now. (And Basabe.) This is not a good reason to not draft someone. There are so many reasons as to why players don't make the MLB that it is poor policy to not draft someone just because there is a similar player in the minors. They should draft their highest rated person, period.

    QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 11, 2017 -> 05:09 PM) Why does anyone expect Rodin to do anything but struggle? He had no spring training and is coming back from an arm injury, it takes time, How dare you attempt to post something with a positive spin. The White sox prospects are struggling. They are not doing well. there is no room for error.
  17. QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Jun 10, 2017 -> 09:27 AM) If we could be 3rd pick bad for about two years I would be really pleased. Hopefully that converts to fielding talent, but who knows That would mean most of the players the Sox have acquired are playing poorly. I'll take this year. But if the Sox are that bad next year, they need to start the rebuild all over again because the players they acquired suck.
  18. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 10, 2017 -> 11:23 AM) I'm not disputing that it looked like it hurt. Was just confused in regards to the way he exited the field and the rosy outlook reported this morning. Anytime there is point tenderness on the bone, they will treat it like a fracture and be extra careful. Most likely it's a "bone bruise" (even though those done really exist) but just to be safe someone probably told him this was the way they are going to treat it.
  19. QUOTE (maxjusttyped @ Jun 9, 2017 -> 07:00 PM) I'd be shocked if Melky's next team plays him anywhere other than DH. He really is moving like he has some lower leg injury. He did not do this last year or at anytime I can remember.
  20. QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Jun 9, 2017 -> 07:10 PM) At least you recognize it. Good for you. There are people in my life who are ongoing victims of domestic abuse. There are people in my life that are victims of adultery. Adultery is awful. Adultery wounds run deep. I have a person in my life who lives with a man who abuses her. She is a shell of what she was. Her husband has stolen a piece of her and her children and she is essentially unable to continue. Your opinions on this make two things obvious: You have no idea what you are talking about and our education system has failed to teach you the damage caused by physical violence. The story is the domestic violence. The adultery is a compounding variable, but it's the violence that is the problem. I would say it's the opposite. You are using an instance which is horrible, which they all are, and applying it to all situations and all people. Everyone will deal with these situations differently. You cannot take one or a few examples and apply it to everyone and all situations. People are different. However, I go back to my original point. The comment of "no one cares about adultery" is a really sad comment on society. both are really stemming from the same problem, lack of respect for another human being, just acted upon differently.
  21. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jun 9, 2017 -> 02:13 PM) Yet more sickening disrespect of Eddy Alvarez How do you come to this conclusion? This looks like a guy for AAA who could fill in if something were to happen to a middle infielder now. Alvarez would not be ready until next year or a Sept call up this year at best.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 9, 2017 -> 12:31 PM) I missed it, how did he hurt himself? Slid awkwardly into first base.
  23. QUOTE (shipps @ Jun 9, 2017 -> 10:57 AM) Just stop ptatc, we are out of our league on this. Let him, the expert, explain to us how its not even debatable...no one has even attempted to debate it in fact because its so silly. On bended knee, I concede.

    QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 9, 2017 -> 10:53 AM) That's actually a different shade, DUP, which I think is pledged with the Tories. OOPs. I see the difference now. Retract those meaningless observations made by the crackpot in the corner. Too much time on his hands without courses to teach.

    QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 9, 2017 -> 10:22 AM) Cool breakdown from NYT on how Britain voted, with this nice graphic showing the shifts. Labour picked up a bunch in England while Conservatives stopped some of the bleeding by carving up rural Scotland. https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2017/06...s-analysis.html Red is Labour, Blue is Conservatives. One of the notable Labour gains last night was Canterbury, which has gone Conservative since 1825. The closest analog would be Democrats winning Oklahoma panhandle seats unexpectedly. Interesting on how Northern Ireland politics are changing. More with labour on the new vote as well as the new PM.
