This is probably true but the Sox do have a history of signing their own pitchers the first time they hit FA in Danks and Buerhle. In general it really isn't good practice to give long term deals to pitchers. Long term being 5+ years.

Yeah, I didn't say it properly. I meant extension as in before the last year. He's done them before but rarely during the last year of a contract. I don't he's ever allowed them to what I was referring to as an extension of a current contract.

Altuve wasn't an extension like Cease, he was in the last year of his contract. He wouldn't allow it.
