  1. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 10:10 AM) I dont know where I read it, but IIRC there was to be no labor deal unless steroid testing was left off the table when the last labor deal was negotiated, and the Union was pretty clear that if MLB was going to push for testing, then there would be a strike. But I may not be recalling it correctly, its been a long time since I read any articles concerning the negotiation of the last labor deal. And, if you remember, the reason there wasn't a strike is because the fans let both sides know they were about to kill their golden goose. There is no way Selig could have forced the drug testing issue on the union at that time.
  2. I'm no big fan of Selig, but I believe his hands were tied by the union.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 10:16 PM) '33 - Cooper and Schoedsack all the way baby! Of course if you included King Kong Lives that would have made the decision much harder. Snickers or Milky Way? Snickers Fruity Pebbles or Fruit Loops?
  5. I'm not geeky enough to take this little test.
  6. QUOTE(Walker2Baines @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 03:07 PM) What a weekend. I got to Indy late Thursday. Indy has to be the most boring village in America. I just hung out on Friday. Saturday I went to the games where I met some friends who were going to Chicago on Sun. Sunday rolls around we leave Indy at 9am. We get to Chicago at about noon. I head to Grandstand to pick up a couple t shirts and a new cap. I ask people if they have extra tickets and nobody has them. So I head over to the stadium and a couple scalpers want $200 and I tell them screw you. So we head over the Weber Grill. One of the waitresses there notices my White Sox cap and says Go Sox and asks if I'm going to the game. I said I want to but I don't have any tickets yet. She asks how many do I need? I only need one. She comes back with a ticket in Sec 147 and only wants face value for it. So I'm thinking I maybe getting ripped off or the ticket is a fake. But I figure if it is, I can come back to the Weber Grill and at least say something to the manager. We eat lunch, decent food but nothing great. I head off to the game while my friends check into the hotel. I take the train to game and I ask people on the train does this ticket look real? They say yes. So I figure I'm ok. I get there and ask some scalpers what they want and prices are still way too high. So I get in line and sure enough the ticket is fine. I would have paid $150 for tickets anywhere and I get a ticket for $45. Awesome. And there was two good looking girls in the row in front of me. We had a few beers together. I loved the fly over and seeing the banners was just awesome. I stayed through the rain delay (beer sure does taste better when it's raining) and get back to our hotel around 2am. Then I had my worst nightmare. Too bad I was wake to see it Monday night as my Bruins got their butts kicked. Welcome to Soxtalk.
  7. The thing that is different this year from last is now Ozzie Guillen is a proven winner as a manager. People complained about him all through last year. His so called 'Sunday lineups' were a constant source of b****ing. Many on here went on record numerous times saying Ozzie could not handle a pitching staff and made lousy in game decisions. Yet, he proved them wrong. But that doesn't stop them.
  8. This thread being here was so predictable. Just like every time Ozzie used someone in any situation last year that wasn't one of our studs. Every time. Yet when October rolled around, our regulars were fresh, our bench was sharp and our bullpen was battle tested. Yet, all year Ozzie was an idiot.
  9. Good work, Jason. Seems we've got some good position prospects, but the pitching seems a bit thin.
  10. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 08:49 AM) So in other words... Anna Benson has a more convincing change up than her husband... Better curves too.
  11. Courtesy of Michelle Malkin... As she asks, why is this not on the cover of the NY Times?
  12. QUOTE(Soxfest @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 08:15 AM) What a spoiled immature piece of crap, how many times did he talk about killing people if legal and I could kill you s*** over and over he has MANY mental issues, he needs to talk and fess up what he did or did not do and answer the steroid question. :finger Bonds But that would take some integrity.
  13. QUOTE(Steff @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 08:00 AM) I would have prefered plat also. 56: I have a habit of being in the right place at the right time. LMB: It does look "eggy" now that you mentioned it, but in the flesh there's nothing "chicky" about it . It's actually more flat on the finger then it looks, and it is way heavy. Very cool, Steff. Glad you have that knack.
  14. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Apr 4, 2006 -> 11:08 AM) when he is introduced he will get the biggest "o" of anyone i would guess I was thrilled that Sox fans let Aaron know how much he was appreciated.
  15. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Apr 4, 2006 -> 05:03 PM) Part of it has to do with the fact that Farmer isn't any good. This may not be a good radio duo, but at the same time I think a lot of people overhyped Rooney/Farmer. Rooney had some amazing calls during the post-season and by and large they were a good crew but It wasn't as if they were Vin Scully or anything like that. Give me Vin Scully in his old and senile days anyday of the week over anyone the Sox run out there. It was a poor move on the Score's part, but the poorest part wasn't hiring Singleton it was trying to move Farmer to a position he stinks at, instead of keeping him at a position he was mediocre at and finding someone to come in and replace Rooney (leaving Farmer as is). I always hated Vin Scully. His voice, to me, is like nails on a chalkboard.
  16. These 'educators' flat out blew an opportunity to teach these kids about respect for the flag. They should have called an assembly and chewed some collective ass. They should have threatened suspensions and detentions for anyone using the flag in a way other than it is intended to be used. That's what upsets me about this. They took the coward's way out and 'banned' the flag.
  17. Thanks to you all for posting these videos. I've been sitting here with tears streaming down my face while watching them. Awesome. Totally awesome.
  18. QUOTE(Texsox @ Apr 3, 2006 -> 08:45 AM) Wednesday afternoon the time/date will be 01:02:03 at 04/05/06 Won't happen again for another 100 years. It will also be the second time it happens the same day.
  19. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Apr 3, 2006 -> 09:42 PM) One thing I noticed was how you guys failed to pounce on the opportunities early in the game. It reminded me of last years squad that struggled so much with runners in scoring position. However, I still think if everything works well you guys have one of the more talented offenses in all of baseball (but than again I thought that last year and we know how that worked for the first half off the season). Just wanted to say welcome aboard. I'm picking the Central to have the wild card winner, but I actually think its the Twins that pick it up. I like what they've done by getting Castillo and I love how they pitch and play d (plus they'll have Hunter back). By the way, your site (tribe talk) is very cool looking. I don't think the central will produce the WC team because the division is too stacked. Even KC has a better team this year, I believe. The central teams will beat each other enough to keep the win totals down.
  20. QUOTE(chisoxdavid @ Apr 3, 2006 -> 08:53 AM) Really? I thought a win counted for something in the M#. I guess I was wrong. You start the season with a MN of 163. The MN over Cleveland is 161. All the rest, it's 162.
  21. QUOTE(Texsox @ Apr 3, 2006 -> 07:53 AM) I wonder how much it would cost to enforce the law? Checking at every employer on a regular basis? They could approach that like they do any other situation where a law is broken. When they become aware a crime has been comitted, they react by enforcing the laws on the books. Ignoring a federal law, because you don't agree with it? That's leadership. That's exactly what we need from our elected officials. Pick and choose the laws you want to enforce. That'll work.
  22. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 3, 2006 -> 08:43 AM) Your paraphrasing from the article is wholly inaccurate. The principal said, if you read carefully, that the flag WAS BEING USED to intimidate, by students. And it was. He said nothing incorrect, and was not saying the flag symbolized anything evil in general. His EXACT quote: "The flags no longer were being used as symbols of patriotism or of cultural heritage, but of ethnic intimidation, harassment and blatant bigotry," Stumpf said. And, for those of you who fail to actually read the article, let me help to make sure you aren't mislead. The American flag still flies over the school, and in classrooms. The ban is only for students wearing or flashing a flag, ANY FLAG OF ANY NATION, in the school. This is one of the reasons why message boards are dangerous. Someone misquotes or misrepresents something as fact, and then everyone reading it assumes its true. :headshake There's your headshake. BTW, I am not saying I agree with the ban. But I really hate when people try to enflame others by manipulating facts. And besides, clearly, the students were indeed using the flags to intimidate people. Then, by God, TEACH the students the proper way to display the flag. TEACH them the proper use of the flag. TEACH people. That's your job. Banning the flag of the United States of America is a hideous response. The guy should be fired.
  23. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Apr 2, 2006 -> 11:47 AM) I hate things like this. And US Cellular Field. But if it has to happen to a team, let it be the Cubs. I love what the money from US Cellular allowed them to do to the ballpark. That was one 'sellout' that was worth it. As an added bonus, it eliminated the name of a skinflint that sent the franchise into an 88 year funk. Personally, I liked it best been old Comisky was called 'White Sox Park'.
