White Sox acquire Gaby Hernandez from Royals
YASNY replied to AWhiteSoxinNJ's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 26, 2011 -> 07:58 AM) What is the scouting report on the kid? The Royals gave up on him. What else do you need to know? -
Great post, Tex.

Good article on Floyd you may not have seen.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Mar 25, 2011 -> 01:39 PM) There is absolutely no comparison between Dan Hudson and Phillip Humber. Just like there is no comparison between what has been called 'constant shots' and what I have restrained myself from saying. But I digress.

QUOTE (Tex @ Mar 24, 2011 -> 12:56 PM) I'll take 60's rock bands for $800 What is "Thirty Days in the Hole."

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Mar 24, 2011 -> 07:53 AM) Wow, I think your response was pretty "bush league". I made one post about an issue that clearly affects our society in numerous ways. I didn't realize it was absurd to suggest it might be affecting baseball too. I thought this was a message board where adults could talk about sensitive issues? If you didn't want to add to the debate, then why didn't you just ignore my post. I wasn't causing a stink or calling anyone out. There was no reason for a personal attack. Aren't you a mod? I would expect better from someone in your position. Personal attack on you? Didn't you say I ignored your post? How the hell could I do both? If you happened to be one of them that played the race card, and I couldn't say one way or the other if you were because I don't remember. I don't go after the individual very often, just the thought behind the post. Personally, I found the playing of the race card as a personal insult. It insinuates that I am a racist, which I most certainly am not. If you took offense at me responding to that, there is not much I can say other than if the shoe fits then by all means, wear it.

Eh, I'm out of this discussion. Playing the race card was as bush league as the actions we have been discussing.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Mar 23, 2011 -> 01:34 PM) Not even I can find a negative in the Dunn signing. Give it time.
-
f*** that s***. His history is what calls this into play. I don't give a rat's ass what 'color' the player is, if he thinks he's bigger than the game, than the traditions, than what's acceptable of your peers ... then it's garbage. Prime example, was Ron Santo clicking his heels after every Cubs home win in '69. That was bush league crap.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 23, 2011 -> 12:30 PM) I think the biggest part of the problem is that there's been very little sign he knows the consequences of his actions. And I agree. The dude has been a journeyman when he was once a prime prospect. He says that they aren't going to take that away from him, but they just might ... when he can't find a job in baseball.
-
You just watch ... after almost every walk off homer, that happens. We those guys slap that helmet and that sucker hits the back of the neck it hurts. That's why they do that.

QUOTE (whtsoxfan @ Mar 23, 2011 -> 11:13 AM) My bad typo HUMBER..... you get the point Geeze! I wasn't picking on you. It was just too damn good to pass up.

QUOTE (StatManDu @ Mar 23, 2011 -> 11:13 AM) MARCH 23: A KING-SIZED DEAL 1989: The White Sox traded outfielder-third baseman Ken Williams to the Detroit Tigers for right-handed pitcher Eric King. This deal turned out to be one of general manager Larry Himes’ best. Williams didn’t do much after leaving the Sox while King played a major role in the team’s renaissance campaign of 1990. As manager Jeff Torborg’s No. 2 starter, King went 12-5 with a 3.28 ERA in 25 starts. He teamed with Greg Hibbard, Jack McDowell and Melido Perez to give the White Sox their most consistent rotation since the “Winning Ugly” days. Williams, of course, would return to the Sox in an executive capacity and was the GM for the club’s 2005 World Series season. MARCH 22: BUCK WALKS 1920: Buck Weaver threatened to leave the White Sox spring training camp in Texas unless he got more money. After telling manager Kid Gleason he did not want to suit up for practice, Weaver headed to the railroad office and bought reservations for Chicago, according to the Chicago Tribune. Weaver was looking for a boost in his $7,000 a year salary. History tells us Buck hung in there for the 1920 season, which would be his last because he was banished from the game for life for his role in the "Black Sox Scandal." NOTE: Sorry about missing the 22nd ... Bailing water in basement! I have always believed Weaver got hosed in that scandel.

QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Mar 23, 2011 -> 11:10 AM) Yes but I still don't see how taking your helmet off is showboating. Okay so when someone crosses home plate and points to the sky, is that showboating? How about when the entire team runs out to home plate and jumps up and down after a walk off? I think Jim Thome removed his helmet and threw it right after rounding third when he hit that blast off of Thornton last year in Minnesota. Paulie pumped his fist after the World Series grand slam. All of it could be considered showboating. But Milledge should be criticized for quietly removing his helmet? Most of the time when a guy removes his helmet between 3rd and home after a dinger, it's because it was a walk off or he expects to get numerous head after hitting the plate. That's injury prevention, and it is understood throughout the game. As for Paulie, coming up hit a clutch hit in a clutch situation, well it was an appropriate response and the players don't want to take that kind of emotion out of the game. A NRI hitting a HR in spring training and showboating ... that don't fly.

QUOTE (whtsoxfan @ Mar 23, 2011 -> 11:08 AM) And Bobby Jenks was a washout when he was with the Angels. Humper deserves a chance at least the White Sox thinks so... Humper? What do you know that we don't know?

QUOTE (YASNY @ Mar 23, 2011 -> 11:04 AM) Yes, Drysdale is dead. That in no way invalidates my point. If you want a living example, Gibson. More recent? Gossage. Yes, things have changed, but I don't think it's for the better. Yet, the injury Tony Conigliaro suffered was horrid. I just wish baseball was played with edge that it used to be instead of guys showboating. Especially, an unaccomplished one like Milledge. After posting this, I remembered an incident that I fondly remember. That is, Carlton Fisk jumping down Deion Sanders throat for failure to run out a pop up. That's what I'm talking about.

QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Mar 23, 2011 -> 10:56 AM) Don Drysdale is dead. He pitched in the 1950s. This is 2011. Do a better job at pitching if you don't want opponents to hit home runs. Seriously, I don't get what the big deal is. It's not like he's rounding the bases yelling and pointing his finger at the pitcher while laughing. And apparently he's not going to stop doing it either, which is fine by me. Maybe it's something personal for him... Yes, Drysdale is dead. That in no way invalidates my point. If you want a living example, Gibson. More recent? Gossage. Yes, things have changed, but I don't think it's for the better. Yet, the injury Tony Conigliaro suffered was horrid. I'm going to post one sentence that might, just might, give you pause to think and also give you all a little historical perspective. Unless you are 90 years old or more, you have never seen a more successful, thrilling, accomplished era of White Sox baseball than the current era, going back to 2000. There it is. Now think about it, really think about.

David Haugh inspired a thought when I read his column this morning. Maybe we should trade Jake Peavy for Jay Cutler. That should make everyone happy.
-
QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Mar 23, 2011 -> 09:18 AM) I think those that would frown upon removing a hat need to get a life. If Milledge had done that after hitting a homer of Don Drysdale, I promise you that DD would have removed his helmet for him the next pitch he threw to him.

Sometimes I read some of these posts and I just shake my head. There's no need to say anything because some of the so called fans are just over the top and there is no talking them. So I just scroll on past it all.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 22, 2011 -> 11:17 AM) And if either Jake pitches up to his contract or there's an insurance policy on Jake's contract covering portions where he's on the DL long term, those ecstatic posters would continue to be correct. Those insurance policies are almost prohibitive cost wise these days because of past history of insuring athletes ... especially pitchers. So do you pay insurance premiums or sign players? That could be a tough call.

Official 2010-2011 NCAA Basketball Thread
YASNY replied to Brian's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I predict Pearl becomes the new head coach at Arkansas. Kind of a Pearl before swine type of thing. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 22, 2011 -> 10:29 AM) The reason people are annoyed with the Peavy trade isn't the stuff that was given up, it's taking on Jake's contract. Regardless, a vast majority of the posters on this board were ecstatic when we acquired Peavy.
