I think I might actually play this year. We'll see.

Milkman and J4L, you guys are good. In fact, you're damn good. You know your s*** and it shows. I respect you both. But, I'll tell you that sometimes your schtick gets old and gets on my nerves. But hey, that's MY problem. Sometimes, I'll throw a snide comment out there in response, but then I consider this all in fun. As far as Tex goes, he's a damn good guy ... period. I'll argue that point with anybody at any time. That said, I think that there has never been anyone on this board more pissed at me at any one time than he was a couple of years ago. But, I'll tell you what ... He came right to me and let me know in no uncertain terms that he was pissed. In fact, his first two words to me began with F and Y. We tackled the issue and settled it after a few minutes of kicking it around. How can you not respect that?

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Mar 27, 2011 -> 07:19 PM) Spring does not mean s***, without looking tell me who had the best record last spring you cannot! I'm going to take a shot at this, without looking, because I think I remember. The Kansas City Royals.

QUOTE (hi8is @ Mar 27, 2011 -> 03:53 PM) Anyone interested in organizing a meet up before / after the home opener? I'll be in Chicago for the first 2 home series! W00t W00t!! I might be up there for the first home series, but not for the home opener. I'm thinking the Friday game is looking good for me.

Could this have possibly gone any better for the NCAA? A play-in team to the Final Four in the very first year they tried this format.

Kansas had a cake walk, and choked on it.

I'm thinking this last 1:40 is gonna be good.

VCU is hanging tough.

QUOTE (ChrisLikesBaseball @ Mar 27, 2011 -> 02:06 PM) :lolhitting I see what you did there. Yeah, what I did was use a really bad pun. But even a bad pun will make some smile, and others roll their eyes.

QUOTE (SoIL @ Mar 27, 2011 -> 01:39 PM) Ivas and Key West had a parting of ways a few months ago, but the bar still has music on Sunday nights and occasionally on a Friday or Saturday. I'm really sorry to hear that. I enjoy Ivas' music. I have his first CD and will get the new one. I knew he hadn't played there in a while, but didn't know why.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 27, 2011 -> 12:55 PM) I agree. I think everyone is smart enough to realize whether the Sox win the World Series or lose 110 games, while the former is highly preferrable, the sun is still going to rise if the latter happens. As my wife tells me when she gets mad at me and thinks I'm obsessing about baseball, "Its just a bunch of un-educated men, running around in dirt, dressed in silly costumes, trying to hit a ball with a stick." She's right. There's really nothing noble about it, but its fun to watch and debate and sometimes even obsess. Wait! Did you hear James Earl Jones' speech about swatting away the memories like flies at the end of Field Of Dreams? What's not noble about that? ... Being somewhat tongue in cheek here.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Mar 27, 2011 -> 08:25 AM) pffft, go to Key West, the owner(my former boss) Jeff Formentini is a huge Sox fan. It will always be on in that bar I've been to the Key West several times. A damn good band named The Ivas John Band used to play there regularly.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Mar 26, 2011 -> 09:06 PM) As the young one of the board, I feel like I need to throw in some counterpoints. For starters, I was raised to believe the Sox would never win. Since I was little until 2005 it was always "88 years." And of course, this was Sosa's heyday, so being a Sox fan meant you were something of a lone wolf, which is why Waldo was such a damn good mascot. Seriously, team colors and a wolf. Why is he not still the mascot over the giant green nightmare? Plus, sometimes it seems as if the old guard is the one complaining...often there are old posters (who I won't name) that complain about Buehrle as "no Billy pierce" and other such comparisons. I revere the names Pierce, Aparicio, and Fox because they will always be my dads favorite players. That being said, they didn't win a World Series. Came close, but no cigar (Pierce might get a pass since Lopez didn't play him in that series). And also, wasn't it a guy named oldsox that started the Adam Dunn nuclear meltdown thread? Mark Buehrle stands on his own accomplishments. No need to compare hime to Billy Pierce, Gary Peters, Tommy John or anybody else. Mark Buehrle is Mark Buehrle. And that is one helluva a compliment in this old guy's book.

Hi Oh Silva, Away!

Milkman, I just reread all those things you listed as condescending. Honestly, I didn't get that impression when I read Tex's post. In fact, I thought it was pretty good advice and maybe a little bit of trying to get folks to see things from a different perspective. Now I want to ask you in a non-condescending way, do you think that maybe you might have read that with a predisposed mindset and got a bit defensive? Just asking, not accusing.
-
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Mar 26, 2011 -> 11:21 AM) And being pessimistic doesn't make me any less of a fan. In fact, I'd say that the amount of time I dedicate to this forum and the money I spend at games make me a pretty damn good fan. I won't argue this point.
-
QUOTE (DirtySox @ Mar 26, 2011 -> 11:10 AM) It reeks of condescension and old folk in here. If you don't like the thread, stay out of it. It's not that difficult.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 26, 2011 -> 11:02 AM) I think I am going to try to get to one of that weekends games as the weather forecast comes into focus as well. If I can get up there I'll let you know. Maybe we can hook up, have dinner or something.
-
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Mar 26, 2011 -> 11:04 AM) See, there it is. You act like we can't enjoy games because of our pessimistic nature. But I'll tell you what, I'll enjoy the 30+ games I attend this year. I hope you have as much fun at the 1 you attend and the others you watch from 1,500 miles away. Yeah, there it is. I do what I can. I don't believe that makes me any less of a fan.
-
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Mar 26, 2011 -> 10:51 AM) I appreciate the sentiment, but I'm so tired of this "sage wisdom" from "wiser" fans because they're older. I also noticed that none of those posters you mentioned even live in the state, so maybe they go to 1 or 2 games a year. I'm not saying that makes anyone a better fan, which I DO believe is the theme of this thread and your overall history of posting, but I'm not going to take advice on how to enjoy a game from someone who hardly ever goes to any. Trust me, I thoroughly enjoy going to and watching games despite my pessimistic attitude. Well by all means, keep being a pessimist. That is your right. In the meantime, I'm going to enjoy being a Sox fan.

I'm thinking I just might get up Chicago to see on of those opening series games against the Rays. It depends on the weather forecast first and foremost.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 26, 2011 -> 10:21 AM) C'mon Yas, sometimes that's a matter of coaching, you know that. Link That comment was made with my tongue firmly planted in my cheek. -
If any of you like caps or uniforms or even sports history

QUOTE (The Baconator @ Mar 26, 2011 -> 10:13 AM) Is that gold piping (I'm assuming, just can't tell on my monitor)? It looks like to me. I actually kinda like that. -
QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Mar 26, 2011 -> 02:58 AM) Baseball is the one sport that I feel comments like this are never safe. This sentiment can be expressed with just one word. Yaneverknow!
