  1. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 19, 2011 -> 02:17 AM) Not sure if that was a shot at me. But if you take the emotion out of it, which I concede is very hard to do in this case, he's not going to be worth $14 million a year from this point on. And I'm almost certain the Sox feel the same. I want Mark to finish his career in Chicago. But at a reasonable cost. Not to overpay for nostalgia purposes. Not a shot at you in any respect. I just appreciate the career Buehrle has had with Sox. ETA: Didn't realize I had quoted you in previous post. In fact, I did so accidently. Sorry for any misunderstanding.
  2. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 19, 2011 -> 12:59 AM) His ability to eliminate the opponents' running game somewhat negates his mediocre peripherals. And he's certainly not a $14 million dollar a year pitcher. But it would be a sad, sad day were Mark to go elsewhere. Let's review. Perfect game, no-hitter, World Series save, kick save play on opening day, hell, even a dinger. Nah, Buehrle's been boring. Let him walk.
  3. I can think of a guy that was a 1st round pick, whose career was almost a bust because his team kept throwing out there as a starter and he sucked. Then he was traded, put in the pen and has been pretty damn effective since. Matt Thornton. The point being that there is not a failsafe blueprint on how to handle young pitchers. You have to judge the individual based on what you see and do what you think is best.
  4. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 16, 2011 -> 07:23 PM) Last I saw, he was sitting around 88-91 with his velocity, which is obviously good less than a year removed from Tommy John, but that's only velocity. We have no idea what kind of movement he can get on pitches yet, nor do we know how his command is yet. It's probably going to take a while for those to come back too. I realize there's a month and a half before the season starts, but I'm not sure the Twins should really be counting on anything from Nathan this year. From what I understand, you can generally count on it being 18 to 24 months before a pitcher gets back his total effectiveness after TJ surgery.
  5. Whether or not I'm correct, I didn't give that any thought. I just reacted on impulse.
  6. QUOTE (knightni @ Feb 16, 2011 -> 11:19 AM) Why has no Sox player worn #6 since 1980? Jorge Orta?
  7. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Feb 16, 2011 -> 09:58 AM) Think The Doors. Never would have made the connection without your hint, but I remember Jim Morrison.
  8. If you are old enough to remember Rooftop Shots, and I know you are, you should be used this by now. It's just the way it is.
  9. QUOTE (Rooftop Shots @ Feb 16, 2011 -> 08:48 AM) AHHHHHH! Ya beat me to it! I had mine all ready! I'm actually amazed that I remembered Herrmann and Martin's number.
  10. One thing that didn't change, the Cubs are still in their second century of futility.
  11. QUOTE (Rooftop Shots @ Feb 16, 2011 -> 08:47 AM) I was looking too. This is the best that I found I did see that one, but I was too lazy to crop it.
  12. I tried to find a picture of Ed Herrmann that showed his number. No luck.
  13. If the Sox don't play at least .500 ball against the Twins, they won't win anything.
  14. Mike, fix your title. You left the "c" out of predict.
  15. MLBN ran a "Top 10 Starting Rotations" over the weekend. The '05 Sox came in at a surprising number 6. The only rotation listed above them from the last 50 years were the '97 Braves.
  16. The ultimate Sox 'stache was Jose Valentin, but those uniforms were gone by the time he came to town. ETA: Or was he?
  17. The man made up his mind what he was willing to do, and what he wasn't willing to do. I can respect that.
  18. QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 27, 2011 -> 09:10 PM) He was an average RF and the Sox caught lightning in a bottle with him in '95 at the age of 32. He had a career year in BA, OBP and SLG in the shortened '95 season before getting dealt to ATL and getting a ring with the Braves. Jose De Leon Acquired from Pittsburg for Bobby Bonilla. Ivan Calderon
  19. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jan 17, 2011 -> 07:38 AM) This is going way back but channel 32 or was it 44 used to use a Ken Berry fosberry flop catch where he went completely over the CF fence on a commercial. If this is the play I'm thinking of Berry did not make that catch. I think it was Bobby Knopp of the Angels hit the ball, Berry went up and over and appeared to make the catch. Problem was that he his head on a fencepost, knocking him self cold and the ball rolled out of glove. The umpire ran out to the fence looked over it and signaled home run.
  20. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 14, 2011 -> 05:49 PM) Dave Letterman Ok, that rings a bell. Damn Letterman, I wouldn't piss on that guy if he was on fire.
  21. Didn't somebody, maybe Steinbrenner, call Forster a "Fat Tub of Goo" at some point?
  22. QUOTE (flavum @ Jan 12, 2011 -> 08:16 PM) Some of you are real paranoid about Frank getting in on the first ballot. He's a lock. Trust me. Well over 75%. Guarantee it. I hope you are right. We will see.
  23. I doubt that Frank gets in on the first ballot for three reasons. 1. He spent years as a DH. 2. 1994. He was dominant force having his best season ... then baseball shut down. 3. Giambi's steroid enhanced MVP season cost Frank his 3rd. Second time around, he's in.
