  1. QUOTE (jphat007 @ Apr 1, 2011 -> 12:21 PM) I guess I meant good games I guess I'm taking people too literally today. LOL
  2. QUOTE (jphat007 @ Apr 1, 2011 -> 12:14 PM) Sitting at home. Took a half day! Wish there were other games to watch while I wait! Phillies-Astros on ESPN
  3. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Apr 1, 2011 -> 11:42 AM) It was a joke. Didn't think I needed green. My apologies.
  4. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Apr 1, 2011 -> 11:35 AM) Buehrle, PK, maybe Ozzie if he wins another. Not sure else would deserve one at the moment. Obviously Beckham will down the road but that's too far out in to the future. Obviously Beckham? Ummm .... No. There is nothing obvious about it. Maybe he just might have that kind of career, but the word obviously is way, way, way premature.
  5. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 1, 2011 -> 10:51 AM) <!--quoteo(post=2343945:date=Mar 31, 2011 -> 09:43 PM:name=whitesoxfan99)-->QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Mar 31, 2011 -> 09:43 PM) <!--quotec-->Jacob Tucker is an unreal dunker. Wow Wait! This is a 5'10" white guy. This HAS to be an April Fool's Day joke or something!
  6. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 1, 2011 -> 08:02 AM) Nice. Mine has Blackhawks & Bears collars, but the fact that the wife is a Cubs fan makes it tough to get him a baseball one. Get the wife a Sox collar!
  7. Theeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Tigers Lose!
  8. 5-3 Yanks heading into the 8th. Since I can't bring myself to say go yanks and mean it, I'm just going to say Keep Losing, Detroit!
  9. Granderson with a solo shot. 4-3 Yanks in the 7th
  10. Just heard that the Pistons will retire Dennis Rodman's jersey at halftime vs. the Bulls. Seems appropriate to me.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 31, 2011 -> 02:10 PM) He really screwed up last winter. That's awfully judgemental. You don't know what he was thinking or why he was thinking it. Maybe he was half way into Buehrle mode ... either I get what I want or I move on. I can even see him saying that he'd give it till the end spring training this year just in case the phone rings with what he considered an acceptable offer.
  12. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Mar 31, 2011 -> 02:09 PM) The way I see it is, you can give out contracts in the $3-5 mill range easily to mediocre or even bad players (Linebrink, Teahen, etc), and an extra $4 mill into the draft each year would do wonders for the system. So eliminating one of these bad contracts can give you a better chance at stockpiling high viewed prospects which can be used to target young, good MLB players. Errors in judgement are made on the ML level just like they are at the draft level. Swisher is a good example. He was pretty good with the A's, sucked for the Sox and very solid for the Yanks. He seemed like the type of player that would fit with the Sox, but it didn't work out that way. You could over pay for a kid out of high school and be much more likely to find out he's a douchebag because you don't have near the amount of 'history' on the kid that you do with a Swisher.
  13. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Mar 31, 2011 -> 01:15 PM) Im sorry, but this is ridiculous. Prospects are essentially currency, you can invest them into your MLB team or you can trade them for pieces for your MLB team. When you don´t have enough to invest in your MLB team, or to trade for the impact players you need, then your team will falter. Of course a farm system that wins a ton of games means nothing to the MLB team´s record, but it´s about having the ability to fill in for injured players, players leaving for FA, and to trade those pieces for impact players that can be the difference between 2nd place and a division title, or maybe even farther. Just look how valuable prospects have become, there have been so many recent trades for good, young, cost controlled players for prospects, many of which will never pan out. But guess what, you still need those prospects to get those players. You have made some very solid points in this thread. But, what I was thinking was nothing more than if the Sox spent money on suspect prospects rather than proven major leaguers then they had their priorities out of whack.
  14. Texiera with a 3 run bomb to put the Yanks up 3-1.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 31, 2011 -> 12:45 PM) Great. The problem is this board would have melted down if we had done it with the express purpose of spending it in the draft instead. And I would have been leading the meltdown.
  16. QUOTE (oldsox @ Mar 31, 2011 -> 12:44 PM) That is the reality of what is being proposed here. These things don't have a vaccuum. If you want more spending on draft picks, it means less money for the major league team's budget. Even though it's not my money Kenny is spending, I still gag when he opens up the vault for Peavy when he could have kept Richard, or when he unloads Hudson for a more expensive Pena. Those are two low priced winners we gave away for big time salaries, and then you can throw Gio into the mix. KW makes it very easy for second guessers. On top of those economic disasters, he spent $56 mm for Dunn, that could have financed a whole bunch of draft picks. Are you trying to me that you hated the Peavy and Swisher (from the A's) trades when they were made? If you did, and can prove it, then fine. But a vast majority of Sox fans liked those trades at the time.
  17. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 30, 2011 -> 08:57 AM) Agreed. The ACC was terrible, their only competition was Duke, and yes, Kentucky is also overrated. This is like saying Duke wasn't overrated because it was a #1 seed. That's BS. Duke wasn't deserving of a #1 seed (shocker there, Duke getting an inflated seeding). They won nothing but the ACC title and had one top 25 win all season. That's a crappy resume for a #1. That elite 8 game between UNC and Kentucky was fantastic, but that's two decent teams, not two great teams. Kentucky is a no-call travel away from losing in the first round. Yes, but they also beat the top ranked team in the nation.
  18. Joe Buck can't even sniff his father's shoes, let alone walk in them. That said, it's almost impossible to be memorably good when you have the wretched Tim McCarver as your color commentator.
  19. Two things that won't happen ... Cutting games off the schedule and more scheduled double-headers. Both are counterproductive to profits.
  20. I'm going to be the first one to make this choice for a regular season game. Adam Dunn. ETA: I guess I should have read all the threads first.
  21. The only legit way to determine the champion is on the field, court, rink or links.
  22. QUOTE (Real @ Mar 28, 2011 -> 09:37 AM) Farmer said something during the broadcast yesterday about crede being in camp with the phillies? I watched the Phillies-Braves yesterday and never heard Crede's name.
  23. The way Mark pitches, he can pitch into his 40's if he so chooses.
