  1. I don't know about him, but I'm making my "gross generalization" based on 3 games 4 years ago and 2.5 seasons of watching this team since. The team that still has Ordonez, Thomas, Konerko, Lee and Valentin as the heart of the lineup. Things haven't changed all that much.
  2. I know this much. The Seatlle organization preferred Borchard. The Sox organization preferred Borchard. That speaks volumns. Even if I did have had the opportunity to see Reed in person, I'd trust the opinions of the professionals in two organizations before I'd trust my amatuer opinion.
  3. Yep. It's been that for three years, now. And counting.
  4. Put yourself in Carlos' shoes here. The pitcher had just walked two previous hittets to load the bases. If I'm up in that spot, I'm thinking that the pitcher cannot afford to walk me. I'm also thinking the pitcher will try and get ahead of me. The pitcher's back is against the wall. So, if I get a good first pitch fastball in my zone, I'm hitting it. Period. Stupid? Selfish? Ok, if you say so. But, I'm up there looking for a pitch to drive and tie the game.
  5. Even if we can take the division from the Twins, as it stands right now, we will do nothing in the playoffs. Any decent RHP having a fairly good night can shut this team down. Against playoff caliber pitchers, this team cannot consistently win.
  6. I wish Maggs and KW would just shut up about the contract talks. We have a division to win.
  7. From the Spinmaster, himself. Pot, kettle .....
  8. That still doesn't show where RJ is on the market. He may be. Where there's smoke, there's fire. But the DBack's were going to let RJ decide if he wanted to be traded. That's the last thing I've heard out of 'Zona on the subject.
  9. He "tricked" the Padres into selecting him? Ummmm ... yeah, right.
  10. The Sox don't have a need for 3 months of Nomar. His contributions to the club vs those of Valentin could not possibly justify the salary increase or the loss of prospects it would take to get him. No thanks to Nomar. We should be setting our sights elsewhere, ala Steve Finley.
  11. An intentional walk was the right move to make in that situation. You've got your best reliever on the mound and and reliever 1A warmed up in the bullpen. No brainer. It just didn't work out. That's baseball.
  12. I don't neccessarilty agree with you about getting Robbie back, but I have to give you props for a nice turn of a phrase.
  13. Black Jack took a gunslingers heart with him to the mound. That dude knew how to compete.
  14. I didn't see any Shingo bashing here. I just saw where someone made an observation and asked what people here thought.... like, does this look this way to you?
  15. I'm with Nuke. mariotti's opinions, on anything, mean nothing.
  16. These last two posts sum up my feelings perfectly. Both parties are run and manned by hypocrits, crooks and scumbags. God Bless America. Please.
  17. ..... and for good measure :fthecubs (what? No fireworks smiley?)
  18. The Sox have to put on a good show for the national audience. Go Sox.
  19. Career wise, Jones has put up numbers very similar to Magglio. Who's to say that he doesn't just need a change of scene? Look at Richard Hidalgo of the Mets. He's been on fire since that trade and he was '03 Konerko-ish prior to it.
  20. An underappreciated jewel. The (real) Old Roman had it right: Baseball Palace of the World.
  21. That was due to a promotion, not an act of God.
