  1. Schoney's not trying to win the Cy Young award in spring training, he's trying to master a couple of pitches. Let's see what happens when the games actually count before we blast him.
  2. Porzio had his chances here and never stepped up and took advantage of his opportunities. Maybe a fresh start is all he needs, but I can't wait to see him pitching to our lineup. There will be some major stat padding going on.
  3. That's his job. Nerve? ... OK ... However we saw a lack of nerve for 6 years. It's about time somebody pushed players to excel in this organization. Ozzie the player has nothing to do with Ozzie the manager.
  4. If Rauch and Grilli are neck and neck, I'd say keep Grilli up. Rauch can be sent down without running the risk of losing him. After reading Bullard's rant about the overabundance of pitchers at the minor league camp, I wonder if KW has a minor deal in the works to pick up a solid infield prospect or something.
  5. Griffey stated that he will be traded somewhere. Cinci's trying to get out from under that contract. I've always liked Benson, but he's a major risk at $6M, even for one year. Though, I haven't heard anything about how he's feeling this spring. On a final note, Rowand's gonna rock!
  6. I agree with Critic's statement. Paulie is no liability at first base.
  7. Simply stated, I'd feel much better with Colon in the rotation than I do without him.
  8. What a great column on Sweeney. The kid's only 19. Let him beef up a bit, and all those two-baggers will be dingers. I usually don't get real excited about prospects, but this kid is an exception.
  9. Now if we can get Cub fans to stop believing you can see Wrigley Field from space...........
  10. Not only No, but HELL NO.
  11. I haven't seen it, but I'll probably check it out on DVD.
  12. You Palestinian hater! Now your day should be complete.
  13. I believe the isuue was "Taxation without representation."
  14. In any competition of this sort, baseball always wins in my mind. Does anyone think the timing of this poll has any bearing on March Madness doing so well?
  15. Do you think the Cubs wished they had Rod Beck available to come out of the bullpen to pitch the 8th inning of Game 6 of the NLCS? :fthecubs
  16. It shows your players that if you can't put some W's on the board, we'll get some players that can. Or at we'll try.
  17. Well 3 of my picks from back on Nov 12th are in the same region. So much for picking early.
  18. I agree TexSox. I think we need to keep Grilli, as well. There is a whole lot of potential there if he can stay healthy. By the end of May, Grilli and Cotts might be our #4 and #5 starters. We need that kind of depth.
  19. It's good to know we have Cotts as insurance for and injured or ineffective starter.
  20. I can give you three very good reasons why it wouldn't make sense for us to pick up Griffey. 1. Reed 2. Sweeney 3. Anderson Plus the fact that next year we will still have Lee, Rowand and Borchard. That is 6 pretty good outfielders to build this club around in whatever combination works. Wht would we want to take such a huge payroll gamble on an old, fragile outfielder. This reminds me of some the Sox other "veteran" pick ups over the years. Jim Gentile, Rocky Colovito, Ron Santo, Tommy Davis, etc, etc.
  21. Gload is having a wonderful spring. But keep in mind he only showed average power last year in Charlotte (18 dingers I think) and he's hardly an "awesome prospect". He'll be a decent bench player and a capable fill in if someone gets hurt, but I don't see him becoming a solid major league starter.

He showed me 14 wins in 2002 when he was healthy. I have plenty of confidence in Danny Wright.
  23. Some good quotes and a great attitude by Razor Shines, the new mananger in Birmingham.
  24. That was Jimmy Piersall. Former Red Sox outfielder and subject of the movir "Fear Strikes Out". During these spring training games, I don't mind these rambling on about whatever. After all, it's spring training for them too. It's takes them a few games to work out the kinks and get their timing down. Of course, be spring training time, I'm just ready for any baseball game. I can thoroughly enjoy a ballgame without any announcers. I know enough about the game to be able to keep up with it without someone telling me what';s happening.
  25. Are you sure YOU weren't high and listening to "Revolution"? Actually, I think Rauch could do a decent job, but I don't think he'll be able to beat out Danny Wright.
