  1. The obsession sports blogs and some sports fans have with Erin Andrews is at best disguisting and at worst disturbing, so this incident doesn't surprise me in the least.
  2. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 17, 2009 -> 11:09 PM) Didn't someone "call" this in that other death thread? Yep. http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?s=...t&p=1932977 As for Walter Cronkite, RIP. He lived a heck of a life, a long and very meaningful one, something we can all hope we are also blessed to have.
  3. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 17, 2009 -> 02:21 PM) Utah has matched on Millsap. I expect Boozer to be a Bull by the end of the weekend. The match means that Boozer will absolutely be traded, and soon. I don't think it will be to the Bulls though, because that would be a smart move and the Bulls don't do things like that (with the exception of letting Ben Gordon go, and even that is a debateable point).
  4. Good thread. To be perfectly honest, I think the Tigers may eventually take a significant tumble and finish in 3rd place, and the main reason I believe this is they have abused their starting pitching. To be fair, they kind of have to do that in order to keep winning ballgames so I can't blame them, but it's going to catch up with them eventually, and in a big way. I actually think the Twins are going to end up winning the division due to them probably being the most predictable, consistent squad at the end of the day (consistently mediocre, but that might be enough in the AL Central), but obviously I hope I'm wrong.
  5. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 17, 2009 -> 02:28 PM) Yes - there is the system we have now, which is the result of decades of compromise between the two sides. Well that is true, but at the same time both sides still seem to despise the current system and want it changed. I guess it's an example of why it's in the best interest of the country if each party has significant representation in government, because if one side gets out of control power, it would probably lead to bad laws. I doubt many hardcore liberals or conservatives would ever admit that though.
  6. I love the liberal vs. conservative argument on economic inequality. One side says screw the rich, the other side says screw the poor. Isn't there a better choice than those two out there?
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 15, 2009 -> 07:42 PM) The 3 lefties in a row argues that all 3 lefties won't be there for long. Exactly. I'm the biggest Richard hater here, but I'm not even too angry at this news because it's simply proof that Clayton is not long for this rotation anyways.
  8. Jeremy Hermida is a guy I think we're going to have much more interest in than Rios.
  9. I'd be stunned if Odom doesn't end up back in LA. The Lakers know they can't repeat if they don't have him back.
  10. Man, Esteban Loaiza in 2003 and 2004. Turning him into a 21 game winner and All Star (who could have had 23 or 24 wins that year when you consider he lost to the all time bad Detroit Tigers 1-0 twice that year, and lost 3-2 to Tampa Bay another game) in 2003, into an All Star again in 2004, and then into Jose Contreras in a deadline trade just as Esteban started to go down the tubes still amazes me. I would call it the ultimate case of "Coop can fix him", but really, he wasn't very good and needed a "fix", so maybe it was just the ultimate example of how good a pitching coach Don Cooper is. Of all the great things we've done with "fixing" players this decade, that might be the most remarkable.
  11. QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Jul 15, 2009 -> 03:21 PM) here's another unpopular opinion... Lindsay Lohan is hot. This might be the most asinine thing I've seen in the entire thread, which is saying something
  12. I'm still not sure I buy it. Havlat just sounds bitter he had to leave, however as somebody in this thread said, where there's smoke, there's fire, so it's fair to be at least a bit concerned about the front office right now.
  13. I think outright dismissal of other people's personal beliefs, religious or otherwise, is not a particularly wise thing to do (unless they believe in blatently stupid things, like raping kids or something). Unless of course, you are just outright saying people who are Cubs fans are stupid in that specific aspect of their life, because that's obviously true.
  14. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jul 14, 2009 -> 11:43 PM) The alien abduction problem is much more serious than the steriods in baseball problem. Especially in Texas. I don't agree with this, but I'm not going to make fun of it either. I would love to hear some details on why you believe this if you are serious.
  15. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Jul 14, 2009 -> 11:34 PM) So I just had a pretty hateful statement written until I realized I'm drunk as s*** and don't need to be posting right now. But, it had to do with you National Anthem/God Bless America haters... And believe me, it wasn't nice. I don't know how anyone could hate those songs. We're f***ing Americans. Why wouldn't you want to hear it??? I have no problem with the National Anthem before the game, I like it and find it to be a proper respect to play it before the games as a reminder why we are able to enjoy such freedoms as a sporting event. But God Bless America during the 7th inning is just over the top in my opinion.
  16. No God Bless America at sporting events, because I find the song itself to be arrogant and certainly don't want to hear it at the game. DH in both leagues. I'm tired of watching the NL suck year after year because they are behind the times. Not only do I think the first DUI conviction a person gets should result in a year in jail, I think it should result in a 5 year loss of your licence. DUI is the most underpunished crime in this country. Along those same lines, a general thought I have is that I have no sympathy for anybody who has something bad happen to them as a result of being drunk or on drugs. If you're stupid enough to get that wasted, you deserve the consequences. I can honestly say as a completely straight male that I don't find Gisele to be attractive at all, and I generally have a think for latina women too. The American justice system may be the best in the world, but it still sucks and needs to be fixed/changed.
  17. QUOTE (scenario @ Jul 14, 2009 -> 08:41 PM) Nah. I'm certain it was because he wasn't wearing a Cardinals jacket while throwing out the first pitch. They like us down there (I wore Sox stuff to a game down there last year and heard nothing but kind words), so I can almost guarantee you the booing was due to his dropping approval rating. But, keep in mind, it was definitely majority cheers he was getting (which makes sense since he still has a well plus 50 percent approval rating), and keeping politics out of things for a moment, seeing the leader of the free world in his Sox jacket was good stuff.
  18. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 14, 2009 -> 11:10 AM) And he hates the Bears. And he sucks. No thanks.
  19. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Jul 14, 2009 -> 01:16 PM) What do Alphonso Soriano and Brian Campbell have in common? They were both given horrible contracts by lousy GM's, and the GM's in turn blamed John McDonough for their stupidity? That would be my answer, although I will say the front office situation for the Hawks right now is a bit concerning.
  20. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 12, 2009 -> 02:38 AM) Bosh would rather play in the USA. Toronto pays everyone in their country's national currency: livestock. Bosh has enough goats to open an Indian restaurant. Bosh is the only guy among the 2010 classes top players who I am confident will change teams. Toronto has made some nice moves this offseason, but he wants to play in the United States and will end up doing so in my opinion. As for the Boozer deal rumors, they are fascinating because you'll hear anything from its likely he'll end up traded to Chicago to they aren't even have serious trade talks, depending on who you ask.
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 12, 2009 -> 03:34 PM) Yes, and Cy Wells is going for the Cubs. There's just a terrible vibe to the baseball games today, so it would shock me if the Cards win tonight. The Cubs are a mediocre, .500 baseball team and will continue to be one the rest of the year. The only way they make the playoffs is if the other teams just collapse and fail even moreso than they already have, so I think you should be more concerned about the Cardinals and Brewers than the Cubs.
  22. So apparently, 2008 Olympic gymnastics great Shawn Johnson is a Sox fan, based on the hat she picked. I don't think she's 18 though, so try to refrain from further comment.
  23. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 12, 2009 -> 05:11 PM) couldn't disagree more I would love to know how you disagree with that. A lot of his defensive trouble this year (and this includes several plays that were makeable, not made, and not called errors) has been because he is slow reacting to the baseball.
  24. I understand we are kind of stuck with him there for the rest of this year, but unless some sort of drastic change occurs, I don't think we can keep Gordon Beckham at 3rd base after 2009. His bat isn't as valuable over there, and his fielding looks awful. I understand he's never played there before this year and is trying to learn at the major league level, but he has very poor reaction times on hard hit balls to him, and I'm not sure if that is something you can teach.
  25. I would be very surprised if the worst case senario, in which we don't sell anybody (except maybe a bullpen arm) and also don't win the division, doesn't happen. We're too close for Kenny to sell, and I don't think we're good enough to win the division either. I hope i'm wrong though, because if such events play out, it would be a disaster.
