Pandemic Flu
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Apr 8, 2017 -> 10:02 AM) The apocalypse won't be the gloom and doom people make it out to be. We will simply evolve from humans into vampires and werewolves thus taking another step up on the food chain. See, that doesn't sound so bad does it? I'm fine with being a vampire or werewolf, but those night time hours are going to be a killer. I'll still try to get to bed by 1 or 2.

I imagine the Texans have a little interest in Cutler.

Wednesday's game was PPD
His response was pretty fair, I think. He also pretty much said that he'll give you another game if you complain at the end of the month.

President Donald Trump: The Thread
QUOTE (raBBit @ Apr 5, 2017 -> 01:31 PM) Do you have something to add here? Not really. I guess I could just make the same point over and over and refuse to be involved in any actual give and take. My preference is to pop in and out of threads and make a comment or two and move on to the next.

President Donald Trump: The Thread
QUOTE (raBBit @ Apr 5, 2017 -> 01:15 PM) There's a difference between a typo and going on cable to cover your ass and opening with "I dindunuffin." But yeah, you got me. I don't know the difference between your/you're. How are you with there, they're, and their?

2017 White Sox Home and Away Uniform Change
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Apr 3, 2017 -> 09:24 AM) I think the peak Sox uniforms were the '05 era. - White, Gray, Black and Vests - Sock logo on the sleeve, not the main Sox logo Bring back the sock logo, make an updated '59 the Sunday jersey. Use '76 (Sale is gone), '83, and '88 as the occasional throwback. Agreed.

Wednesday's game was PPD
QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Apr 5, 2017 -> 12:19 PM) This is the response I sent John, Thanks for the response. Speaking frankly, this is a bit frustrating. This package was marketed to fans as a value deal of a group of games. I realize things happen with April weather, but I believe it's disingenuous for the White Sox to walk back on the good faith value of 11 games for a refunded portion of a miniscule amount of money and 10 remaining games (maybe 9 now if tomorrow's weather is bad as well). The true value of this campaign is to get butts in seats in a down year, in my opinion, and I believe the White Sox always make a lot of money on concessions per fan, more than the value of the ticket that will go unsold. I would say that refunding $3.54 does nothing for the White Sox or me, but even a free upper reserved ticket in July gets me to a game, gets me to buy hot dogs, candy, beer and whatever else - and gets me to cheer on the squad. We both know this is a rebuilding year for this team, and that there are going to be dog games in July and August against not-popular teams where the organization will struggle at the gate - why give me $3.54 for each of two tickets back when the team could make $50 in concessions for giving ballpark passers the opportunity to exchange for an upper reserved ticket to a handful of organization-picked games? Sincerely, ***** I was going to suggest writing to them. I bet you get a positive response.

President Donald Trump: The Thread
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 30, 2017 -> 12:58 PM) While something like 62% of Americans are invested in the stock market.... This is largely due to the tax consequences of not putting money into IRAs or retirement plans. Of course, I'm sure it's ok when the government essentially forces people to invest money into the stock market or be penalized with a higher reportable income at tax time.

President Donald Trump: The Thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 30, 2017 -> 08:06 AM) It is a loss of freedom. Period. It is just as easy for the government to socialize pretty much anything because "it is for the public good". It is an absolutely terrible reason for anything when it comes to the power of the federal government. What about public schools? Should all schools from K-12 be tuition based, with only those who can afford it able to go?

Podcasts
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Feb 15, 2017 -> 09:25 AM) Started listening to Bill Burr everyday at work...soooo funny. Burr is great, but I kind of tired of his solo podcast. He's always good as a guest. Not sure if they're available anywhere (pretty sure I listened on YouTube), but there are some really funny Opie & Anthony shows with Burr & Patrice O'Neal. Patrice O'Neal was an all time ball buster. I listened to several "My Dad Wrote a Porno." Pretty funny. It's not top of the rotation for me, but I'll check back in when I need some pod.

President Donald Trump: The Thread
I'm usually irritated when I'm in traffic and it slows down to a complete crawl because someone on the other side of the highway has a flat tire. I think, why are people slowing down to look at that. That said, I'm thoroughly enjoying the opportunity to "rubber neck" at this car accident of a President the American people elected. This administration can't get out of its own way.

Sports Media discussion
QUOTE (Donaldo @ Mar 6, 2017 -> 06:48 PM) McNeil posts there on occasion, and he had an interesting observation about the new generation of sports talk hosts. Mac feels they think their purpose is to educate rather than entertain. That's pretty good. I never thought of that, but it's how I feel. Even worse are the people you come across who parrot all the "wisdom" they heard on Sports radio.

This is how you're supposed to ask this question.

Lent Thread
My daughter became a vegan a year ago, so this year I'm giving up meat. I'll basically be a vegan, but I'm allowing myself milk for cereal (I'll try the almond milk, but not sure I'll like it). I'm also not going to check labels for eggs in things like bread. I won't be eating sweets, either. So far, it hasn't been difficult. I didn't get ashes. I usually do, but I had a conflict with the mass time. I'm not super religious, either. I go to church, but I'm pretty much agnostic.

3/2 vs Giants
I was at the game today. I bought 3 tickets on Seat Geek and only spent $12. One of the perks of being a Sox fan is no competition. I paid more for parking.? I don't think you can draw much of a conclusion from a spring game. It's barely baseball. It was nice to see some aggressive base running, and most of the young guys had some playing time.

President Donald Trump: The Thread
QUOTE (greg775 @ Mar 1, 2017 -> 11:24 PM) I killed all my posts since they were so offensive. I'll shut up about Trump since it causes so much consternation. Keep posting your opinions. There's nothing offensive about your optimism. I doubt you'd be as optimistic if HC had given the EXACT speech Trump just gave, but like any other post in this (or any) thread, if people don't agree, they can respond or ignore. Don't let them bully you out of here. It would be an affront to our First Lady's anti-bullying platform.

2017 Catch All thread
Why is it that so many tv shows and sports on tv are next to impossible to hear? It's like the background noise is always louder than the dialogue and announcers. I have nice flat screens and sound systems, but too often I can't hear the show I'm watching. I think I was happier with my 900lb 32" magnavox. Didn't look great, but at least I wasn't constantly turning to whoever I'm watching with and saying, "what did he say?"

2017 Music thread
If Adele's music was the best music of 2016, it was a bad year for music. I don't hate Adele, either, but I don't think I made it through "Hello" one time.
