  1. I always liked Boers. When he wrote for the Sun Times, he was what Jay Mariotti tried to be. He generally took a viewpoint that might not have been popular (eg. Writing negative stuff about Ditka or ND), but it was well done. His ND columns used to drive my Dad nuts. I was a big fan of the early Score. Jiggets & North. McNeil & Boers. I used to listen to them every day when I was at work. It's too bad McNeil & North were such dbags. They basically blew up the station with their attitudes and arrogance. I never liked Boers & Bernstein, but that's 99% about Bernstein in my mind. I just can't stand to listen to him. Wishing Terry the best. Hopefully a long, healthy retirement.
  2. QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 28, 2016 -> 03:12 PM) This Gen. Petraeus thing is so hysterical because one - he should not be allowed to serve in gov't again as he actually knowingly gave intel to his mistress and was prosecuted Yeah, but Hillary.... Gotta love how almost everything Trump does is the opposite of what he says.
  3. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 27, 2016 -> 02:10 PM) You don't see that many drops when you watch 8 year olds playing flag football. And it isn't like Barkley is throwing 100 MPH fastballs. I thought I was recording the game, so I tuned in to watch a few hours after the start, only to find out that it didn't record. It's not exactly appointment tv at this point, so I flipped to the live action with a little more than 3 minutes left in the game. I saw four dropped passes.
  4. QUOTE (The Critic @ Nov 27, 2016 -> 07:14 AM) Would have preferred Nighthawks, and the logo is a little too LA Kings for me. No one will use the "Golden", they will unofficially be the Vegas Knights. I like the logo - don't like the name. Vegas Knights is ok. The "Golden" is lame.
  5. I was out walking our dogs (Boxers) with my wife this morning, and I fell into a little bad luck. My one dog has cancer, so we're making sure he gets to do what he always loved as the end nears. He's weak, but we make sure we take him on a walk - his favorite activity. My other dog was a rescue, and she has some aggressiveness issues. So, one of these geniuses who doesn't leash their dog let's their dog come up to ours. The dog I was walking gets into attack mode. This friendly lab doesn't get the message that my dog wants to kill him, so he keeps approaching. I'm pulling my dog and backing up. Right into a cactus. I have a million little cactus needles in my legs. Gonna be a fun day.
  6. My days of Turkey Bowls are far behind me. Now it's just family, food, and 3 games on tv. Wishing you all a happy Thanksgiving. There may be wildly different opinions on a great many different subjects here, but the one thing that binds us all together is our love for the Sox. Thanks for being the place I come to for White Sox news.

I haven't started these, but I'm going to listen to "Crimetown" about organized crime and "Stranglers" about the Boston Strangler.
  8. Who knows? Maybe they were re-enacting Cesar Izturis' special home run celebration with Aramis Ramirez.
  9. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 17, 2016 -> 07:44 AM) I started listening to a few different podcasts recently, and listened to the Joe Rogan experience yesterday, and his guests are Graham Hancock and Randall Carlson. Anyone interested in ancient civilizations, comet impacts, egypt, extinction events, you need to listen to this podcast. It is absolutely fascinating Hey, I started a podcast thread a month or so ago for just this kind of post. Don't bury it in the "catch all."
  10. I'm trying to write a message for my son's HS yearbook page (where you pay a bunch of money so your kid can have a personal page of pictures in the yearbook). He's a senior, so while I'm sitting at the computer welling up with tears while trying to encapsulate what he means to us, I picture him flipping through the yearbook in the spring and barely paying attention to what I write. Gotta love parenthood.
  11. QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 19, 2016 -> 12:23 PM) How can you blame me for writing in somebody? Just poking a little fun at you, Greg, because you contradict yourself quite a bit. No harm intended.
  12. QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 19, 2016 -> 12:11 PM) How many times do we have to go through this? Millions of Americans had a right to sit at home when given choices as horrific as Trump and Hillary Clinton. As long as they stand for the Anthem, I'm ok with them not voting.
  13. Look, Trump may have a lot of faults, but he has always been respectful to our elected officials. He just feels like we should do the same.
  14. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Nov 13, 2016 -> 09:57 PM) Exactly. I struggled with that trade for a bit. Tried to be very fair in my deals. Generally speaking, I'm not a fan of the total tear down of the current roster. Not because I care if they win or lose in the near future, but because I question whether they can identify the right guys to get back. If they can get as much back as you proposed, I'd be fine with it, but it seems like you have them getting an awful lot in return for a few of the guys. But, truth be told, I'm not a huge minor league baseball fan, so maybe the names you mentioned aren't as much as it looks like to me. Nice plan, though.
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 13, 2016 -> 07:14 PM) 60 Minutes revelations... 4. He wants any of his supporters attacking minorities to “stop it.” Trump feigned ignorance when Stahl asked him about the rash of racially charged attacks on minorities since his election: “I’m very surprised to hear that. I hate to hear it.” (He added, “I think it’s a very small amount.”) What would he say to Trump supporters taunting and attacking minorities? “I say stop it. If it helps. I’ll say it right to the camera: Stop it.” He later added, “I think it’s horrible, if it’s happening.” But he cautioned: “I think it’s built up by the press.” 8. He won’t fight to overturn gay marriage. Opposition to LGBT rights has been a part of the Republican platform for decades, but Trump signaled that he doesn’t want to continue that fight. When Stahl brought up the LGBT community, he proudly replied, “I mentioned them at the Republican national convention.” And he’s not planning to oppose gay marriage in the courts, he says: “It’s irrelevant, because it’s already settled. It’s done. I’m fine with that.” So a "border fence" in some places....and won't commit to prosecuting the Clintons/Clinton Foundation. https://www.yahoo.com/tv/donald-trump-60-mi...-015817963.html That was a pretty telling interview. Seems like Trump is already coming back toward the middle a little. This massive, beautiful wall is going to be part "fence" in some places? I can only imagine how beautiful a Trump chain link fence will appear when compared to the average Tru-link fence, Of the 12 million or so illegals that he campaigned so hard to get rid of, Trump is going to immediately get rid of 2-3 million of the criminals, and then deal with the rest. Didn't seem like the plan was to deport the rest, though. Clintons are nice. May not have a special prosecutor. Trump is going to be extremely busy. So, was he going to be the one prosecuting them? Not sure how his busy schedule has anything to do with whether or not the Clintons face charges. Obama-care is apparently not as big of a disaster as he had us believing. He wants to keep the healthcare for pre-existing conditions and make some other changes. Doesn't sound like he's just dumping the whole thing. Replacing the bad parts. Isn't that what anyone would do? But, you can't make changes until you have it for a little while and see what does and doesn't work. Might help to have a little cooperation from the rest of the elected officials who vote on the changes, too. When asked about his Supreme Court and whether it would lead to abortion being outlawed, he said the judges he appoints will be pro-life and added something about the 2nd amendment. When pushed about abortion, he said it would go to the states. LBGT rights isn't an issue because it's been settled. It's the law. Not sure how that differs from abortion, but what do I know? He was asked about running an anti-lobbying platform, and then immediately bringing in a bunch of lobbyists to advise him. He basically said, that's the only people in Washington. Wasn't asked specifically about his cabinet (wouldn't reveal names), but I wonder how him bringing in Giuliani, Christie, etc is any different from Hillary's 30 years as an insider. Aren't Giuliani and Christie insiders? He wasn't super cocky about ISIS following his meeting with Obama, either. I guess when the guy who is actually tasked with the fight gave Trump a little inside info, Trump figured out that it's much easier to fight the fight from the sidelines and play Monday morning QB after every mistake. Anyway, all that said, I think he came off ok. It's pretty apparent to me that it's one thing to run with the hope of being voted President, and a whole other thing for it to be a reality.
  16. Leonard Cohen - 82. I like pretty much every version of "Hallelujah" I hear. It's one of those songs that I never get tired of. RIP.
  17. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 10, 2016 -> 06:19 AM) As a white male who makes decent coin, I personally really have nothing to fear. And Vice News Tonight yesterday covered the election results. They covered a woman in Ohio who "couldn't stand to vote for either candidate". She just loves Obama and Obamacare saved her when she had a child 1 year earlier. Without Obamacare, she'd be nowhere. The point being, she saw no reason to vote for what actually mattered to her because she was so uneducated. What part of increased minimum wage and healthcare made these people feel like they were being ignored? I also saw a fantastic article about Google and Facebook's algorithms being a huge reason why the election swung to Trump. Facebook and Google feed you what you WANT to see in your newsfeed and not-so-organic results by understanding what you click on and what interests you. Interesting link. I'm amazed by people who don't vote for what is best for them. I know several people who have kids with pretty serious health conditions that have bought into the anti-Obama care stuff. And then there are the people whose whole basis for voting is one issue - guns or abortion stand out. Two issues that have had very little movement for years and won't again.
  18. Astros are in the market for a 1b/dh type. I'd offer them Abreu for some of their prospects. They have 4 or 5 of the top 100.
  19. QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 6, 2016 -> 12:07 PM) Ventura You're kind of all over the place in these threads, but from what I can gather, Jesse Ventura is not really your ideal candidate when it comes to issues. http://www.ontheissues.org/Jesse_Ventura.htm
  20. The Sox havent been able to evaluate or develop positional players. I'm not sure why we'd want to trade established front line pitching for a bunch of prospects and unproven players from another team and trust our minor league development team to make them major league players.
  21. QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 5, 2016 -> 02:09 PM) I don't know why some don't consider a third option ... a write in candidate or Johnson or that other guy who is running. Given two horrendous choices, I go for a write in. "...Johnson or that other guy...." Yep, another compelling and well thought out post by Greg. Put me down for "that other guy."

QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 11, 2016 -> 05:28 AM) Started listening to "Accused". Another crime pod about an unsolved murder in 78 I'll check this out. I just finished "In the Dark." It was so well done - much more satisfying than Serial. Norm Macdonald's podcast is back. He's so offbeat that's it's always a fun listen
  23. QUOTE (raBBit @ Oct 26, 2016 -> 01:57 PM) I am considering all four of these options. I had a very similar situation with a neighbor. My neighbor worked nights, so he had the run of our cul d sac when everyone was at work during the day. He was constantly messing with my stuff. He hacked the sh&& out of a bush of mine that grew a little over the property line. He would take my garbage can and move it way out into the middle of the cul d sac. He parked right on top of my driveway. He stole some of my UPS deliveries. My mistake - I confronted him for dicking around with my bush one day. After that he was relentless. It was terrible. I'm not sure what kind of crazy I triggered, but I seriously regret ever talking to him. I'm certain he was a sociopath. I read a bunch of books about it, and he fit the description perfectly. We eventually got cameras and that drove him crazy. He couldn't handle being filmed. I have great video of him sneaking around to avoid detection, shining things at my cameras, and trespassing. Eventually, we had so much stuff that we took him to court after serving him with an injunction against harassment. You don't want it to get there, though, because he sounds like my neighbor. He won't stop, and as an ex-cop, he believes he's above the law. You won't win a pissing contest with him. If the parking thing is the only issue, so be it. Find somewhere else to park if he's parked in front. If there's more, get cameras, but be prepared to have to review them. It sucks. We had to do it daily, and whenever we thought he was calming down and maybe we could stop reviewing, he'd spike back up. We had to do it daily for three years. Finally, this summer we moved. DON'T engage. Sociopaths live for it.
  24. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 2, 2016 -> 05:55 AM) Except Frazier and Anderson weren't particularly high OBP guys... Well, I'd keep Frazier because he's a 3B, and it's not easy to find a good 3B. I'd give Anderson time to develop. But, point taken.
  25. I agree with your idea to build around the starting pitching. Watching the playoffs, I'm convinced that they are not that far away from a playoff appearance. They just need to add guys who can get on base consistently. It seems like 10 years of all or nothing teams. On the current roster of everyday players, I'd hold on to Anderson, Frazier, and probably Eaton and listen to offers for everyone else. Build the minor league talent pool with smaller trades for teams' 5-10 ranked prospects at the trade deadline if the season isn't going well. The important thing is to be aggressive at that time and dump guys like Jones and Robertson and Cabrera that teams want for their playoff push. The Duke to STL trade is a good example. They took a flyer on a mid level prospect. We'll have to see how it turns out. Sale for a team's top 4 or 5 prospects sounds great if they turn into Arizona, Baez, Contreras, etc, but that's no guarantee. I'd rather acquire talent and do a better job of developing it.
