  1. Looking at some highlights and the back of his Fangraphs card I'm pretty impressed. He has good underlying stats too so unless he gets seriously hurt (a risk with any player, 34 or 24) I expect him to produce. He's an actual quality vet, not some buy low guy.
  2. Iguchi and Fuko right here in Chicago for starters.
  3. I wanted to sign him but I think he'll be an average OF in MLB.
  4. I don't know I think most Japanese players that come over, non Shohei/Ichiro division are not ready for the speed of the game defensively.
  5. We really do not want to trade Burger and Sheets right now. Those guys have shown enough that THEY can be the cheap cost controlled average regulars that has so bedviled this org the past 20 years. Trading them for short term vets would be short sighted. I'm fine rolling with what we got now. We just added 2.5 WAR today net and probably .5 the other day adding the depth OF from the Phillies. This is a 92-95 win team on paper. Go get it done and keep your powder dry for now.
  6. If he plays everyday and has a 125 wRC+ fucking give it to him gladly.
  7. WOW! Good job FO! This is two good trades in a row!
  8. They did him a disservice starting his arb clock, guaranteeing him a MLB pension and healthcare for life and allowing him a MLB player lifestyle rather than minor league? Dude, step back from the ledge. He could have blown out his arm just as easily in Birmingham.
  9. Seattle is doing more 6 starts and got great feedback iirc. If you have kids you can now get home With them before 11 most nights which is the big draw for many.
  10. GMAFB. I've said this over and over: if Hahn doesn't have full control he is free to you know resign. He is either on board with TLR or enjoys job security over executing his vision as a GM. The idea that Hahn is some hero to TLRs devil is silly. They all share the blame for failure and for the most part credit for any success. That said I'm no longer team TLR or Hahn. I am currently agnostic so don't pin that shit on me right now. I'm in show me mode.
  11. Dunning is getting a lot of hype down in Texas.
  12. probably from patting himself on the back excessively.
  13. I think you're conflating several posters but I was def a hater. I have said many times over the last year that he turned his career around and I'm thrilled. When he posted the picture of himself in England during his rehab he looked out of shape and in a different world mentally. That was the genesis of most my posts on his mental and physical state. People change and athletes especially are made of sterner stuff most of the time than us mere mortals.
  14. He def is interesting and I apologize for writing him off. That said, we already have a handful of guys whose best position is hitter. Another year with a roster full of 'em!
  15. lol at bitching about lineup construction in spring.
  16. that's about where I'm at. let me enjoy the young stars and try and forget about the rest.
  17. I wish the Sox had a better off-season for on forum and off forum reasons. Going to be more like this coming if squad gets off to a sluggish start.
  18. pisses me off the sox traded a player I'm not a huge fan off but that is objectively a really good asset (Madrigal) for this [homophobic pejorative].
  19. A Ford Pinto maybe, but with used car prices maybe not.
  20. Thing is, even if he is good you're getting good for 50-70 innings and furthermore the value of those innings depends quite a bit on the starting rotation and offense. It doesn't matter how good he is if he's entering a 3-5 ballgame in the 7th more often than not. It's just a stupid way to spend money, FFS.
  21. there is NOTHING performance wise any vet can do in spring training to change my perception of them. nothing. I'm too old for that shit man. 20 years of being a hardcore fan and I can count the number of hot springs from an aging vet that carried over into the year on...zero fingers. Can you name a single one?
  22. somewhere Jimmy Rollins thinks about picking up the glove again.
  23. From a week of meaningless games? Dude you've lost the plot; I've been on the same page with you in the past about knee jerk reactions to the FO's moves, but I can't defend this anymore.
